  1. Yep 1.04 definetly made the game for the better, FPS and otherwise. Still few issues affect me. - Scrolling with keyboard buttons still seems clunky. It works fine for a moment while scrolling in one direction, but when changing scroll direction, sometimes it just stops scrolling all together. Other way to describe it is as being non-smooth. As one would expect with "high CPU priority ON" the scrolling is worse. But its not that much better with "high CPU priority OFF" either. - Played through few training campaing missions and noticed that when infantry is being loaded/unloaded multiple times in a row, they sometimes refuse to board vehicles anymore. - Got a hard crash after about 30mins of playing. - Gameplay and UI feel akward still. Maybe its just lack of playing the game, but I really hope WWII version will be bit easier to play. Stuff like not being able to move waypoints and such really make playing this game a pain. System: AMD X2 4600+ @ 2.8GHz 2 x 1GB DDR400 mem X1900XTX with 7.9 CCC
  2. I really hate when games get released in Alpha/Beta stage but atlest BF is working on it. I have shelfed the game but it seems like 1.04 will be the magic patch that makes this game playable for me
  3. NO, not yet atleast. I find it hard to enjoy CMSF at its current state. Too many bugs and UI needs some love badly. With UI stuff I mean all the UI still like "show all move/target stuff" and so on. The UI is a big step backwards compared to the old games IMO. Still Iam not too depressed, as I like many else, love old CM games. Hopefully they can patch it up. [ August 19, 2007, 10:53 AM: Message edited by: sam0t ]
  4. I´ll give it ago, I have not tried the affinity thing after 1.02. edit: Yep now with 1.02 patch and affinity set on one core, the game no longer freezes. Still the game feels bit clunky and AI not so smart. But atleast I got it working now [ August 16, 2007, 12:04 PM: Message edited by: sam0t ]
  5. Thanks for the tips and the info, I won´t bother installing 7.8 drivers. It seems that ATI drivers are targetted for the new generation of cards anyways so its no shocker really. Iam too quite suprised how this CMSF turned out. I was expecting a superb tactical game with medicore graphics and with rock stable engine, much like older CM games. What I got was a tactical game with potential (cant really say, since I can game max 10mins) which in its current shape is the buggiest game I have ever purchassed. Oh well, here is hoping BF can get their acts together with the WWII edition.
  6. Hello Iam one of the unfortunate ones who owns AMD X2 processor, Radeon X1900XTX card and CMFS. Pre 1.02 patch I got freezes in about 10minutes to the game and now with 1.02 I get freezes and warping units. So in a sense my situation got worse with 1.02 patch than with the unpatched 1.01. So my guestion goes, has anybody tried the new ATI 7.8 CCC drivers and if so, do they work better with CMSF than the earlier ones? I have pretty much tried everything else than fresh install of the XP. M$ dualcore fix installed, AMD processor drivers installed, tried AMD Dual core optimizer (uninstalled it since). All my other games run flawlessly so Iam not too eager to do fresh install of XP :/
  7. Yep I came to the same conclusion when I tested CoH. Great RTS but I feel sick whenever somebody even hints that CoH is realistic in any way
  8. Maybe people should ask 8800 fixes from Nvidia and not from BF. Nvidias drivers have seen better days. Actually the gfx hardware is developing so fast that hardly any current card has deacent drivers Anyways I just hope I can actually play cmsf longer than 5mins after the patch!
  9. Good point tarball Also cmsf can be considered to be a very new game and made with rather small budget. Iam not sure if ATI/Nvidia recieved a copy of the game, so that they could test it properly before release? [ August 06, 2007, 09:33 AM: Message edited by: sam0t ]
  10. I just uninstalled the AMD dual core optimizer as some suggest it causes more troubles than it fixes. So I got AMD CPU drivers installed and M$ dual core fix, I´ll try later how the game works now.
  11. Sounds like the ATI issue to me. Iam in a same boat as you with a bit different kinda problem. My game freezes everytime 5-10mins into the game, its most likely the ATI problem as it happens with affinity set on one processor also. I got AMD X2 processor and ATI x1900xtx 3D card here. Hopefully BF can get this stuff sorted out quickly with the 1.02 patch.
  12. Can you tell us your system specs in detail? That would help the troubleshooting greatly. There seems to be known issues with dual-core processors and ATI 3D cards. And as far as I know, BF is working on a fix. [ August 05, 2007, 01:01 PM: Message edited by: sam0t ]
  13. Freeze up hell here aswell I have now tried the tutorial mission about 5 times and every time the game freezes and I have to kill the application like Lars above describes. If I remember correctly the freezes happen everytime I issue commands to my units. My system: AMD64 X2 4600+ @ 2.8GHz Asus A8N-E 2G DDR400 RAM X1900XTX with 7.6 CCC XP SP2 32-bit with all updates I have installed the AMD CPU driver, dual core optimizer and M$ dual core hotfix. ps. Must add that my system is 100% stable and all my other games run smooth as butter without any hickups. [ July 28, 2007, 03:55 AM: Message edited by: sam0t ]
  14. Noticed this too. Hopefully BF can optimize their engine accordingly in future patches.
  15. - Adjustable waypoints. - Being able to show all movement/targeting lines. I consider these two the most important things that are currently "missing" from the cmsf. Hopefully BF can implement these as soon as possible.
  16. Geez where some of the people in this thread been living for the past year. Go ahead and google some year old information from the Internet if you will, but todays situation is quite different than some individuals here claim. I have monitored some of the most popular hardware sites/forums out there daily and all of them pretty much tell you the same story, which is: Nvidias driver quality has taken a nose dive after they released the 8800 series. They have slowly been getting better for 8800 series but because of that the pre 8800 cards have been almost totally forgotten. Last time it took Nvidia 6 months to update drivers for these cards, which can hardly be called an archievement. On the other hand ATI/AMD has steadily gotten better drivers due to their monthly driver program and their driver stability can be considered excelent nowdays. ATI/AMD did rewrite their openGL drivers reacently which resulted in a performance increase, so things are not so bleak in openGL land either. The only place when Nvidias drivers beat the ATI/AMD clearly is in Linux world, that I do not doubt.
  17. Seriously try to hold your horses untill M$ atleast releases a SP1 to Vista. Untill that happens installing Vista is like asking for troubles. Sure it might work ok for some, but there are plenty of people out there whose systems are not so stable. ps. Vista is a resource hog compared to XP so you should know that most games run worse with Vista than XP.
  18. Finns here, can´t be.. I do sometimes wonder why there are so many strategy gamers here in Finland. Somebody should do a study about it.
  19. Long gone are the days when Nvidia had "superior" drivers compared to the competition. Sadly some people still think that way and won´t even consider ATI/AMD alternatives which currently have better drivers. Well on to the review, which was great, but left me wonder about one thing. Does CM:SF have anykinda tutorial? Not a deal breaker even if it does not since I have played previous CM games alot. Also great to hear that Battlefront is already fixing bugs. One question arose about the patch, will the release version of the game have this 1.01 patch included or will it be released on a later date? That was not totally clear to me, might be cause english is not my native lanquage.
  20. I have been using play.com for years, but somehow assumed that the retail version of CM:SF will come to europe in a much later date, so I did not even bother to search play.com. May I say darn, because I alrdy pre-ordered through BattleFront and there is a big sign on the purchase page reading "ALL SALES ARE FINAL". Oh well, atleast I get to download the game on release date and know battlefront gets my €€€ directly
  21. Iam in the same boat as the OP, my pessism is reducing rapidly. First I thought not to buy the game, since its not WWII, but since its been so long since the last CM fix, I decided to pre-order the game. ps. Reading thejaguarusf excelent preview of the game had its part to play in my buying decision. Excelent stuff jaguar!
