  1. Well, no doubts someone somewhere likely got toasted by a hit to the tank or hose perhaps. It may not have been as easy who knows. I'll get something throw some Diesel in it and shoot it for my own curiousity. According to what is provided, it appears the Axis FT's would have been more likely to ignite by penetration later in the war if they had Gasoline mixes. We all know it goes POOF fairly easily. And i suppose to the FT operator, it really wouldn't matter. Soon as he was identified, everyone shot at the poor fellow. He would likely be dead before the penetrating hit.
  2. Hey folks, i know you older players would probably rather shoot your keyboards than discuss another battle in the sewers, tractor factory, rail yard, Pavlov's house, or any other scenario you've already played. I haven't downloaded any scenarios or been anywhere but this site. I would like some good solo battles from beginner level to a great advanced battle to which i can really cut my claws on (a balanced one where victory is equal chance). I'd really like an advanced battle, the fastest way past being a conscript commander is to face down some Crack objectives. I don't suppose it needs to be Stalingrad, any good streetfight will do. I'm not ready for any human opponents on anything like this. If there are any good scenarios on the disk, post them. I've looked but there are so many the few i've tried aren't what i thought they were. I've played the zoo one. P.S. I don't know what directory to put the file in if i have to download one.
  3. Night, neither do i, although it's abstract in some respects, it's a HECK of alot of fun. LOL Also, does anyone know if sun facing and the time of day have any penalties?? North is marked on the game map. You aren't going to have the same LOS capabilities if the sun is blaring in your eyes compared to the fellow with the sun to his back. Does the game engine utilize this??
  4. I've not had any issues like that to my knowledge. I have be fired at from areas where they had a LOS and for whatever reason i didn't, but usually the movement of a meter or 2 and i got a lock. Tis possible they are also using an area fire and got lucky?
  5. I'm new too. I've seen them talk about this issue. It's been explained to me and i have somewhat of a knowledge of what is going on. I can't see the pic at the moment. However, i've found it helpful to turn off all trees and get down to the ground level. Turn off all your trees and look at the map from a top view. This shows me the first break in the LOS and then i get down to ground and examine it. The trees in the game i've found don't exactly mean there is a tree in that spot (to my VERY limited understanding). The tree areas seem to be alot more depth and height based. A more expierience player can tell us more.
  6. I've always been under the impression that a decent percentage of the German tank losses were likely due to air attacks. Many accounts i've read and shows i've watched on History Channel, etc. have all had the same outlook. The German crews said they were not allowed to move during the day due to the near complete air superiority that the allies had. It was something Rommel worried about quite a bit, and was one of his chief complaints about the African Campaign as i understand things. I'm betting that letting a dive bomber get the ememy was the tank crews preferred way of tank busting especially since it kept themselves out of harms way. The german Stukas were quite good at it at least early in the war. I've seen many pictures where it looked as though small colums of tanks or vehicles had been caught by air strike. So in this context, and thoughts about pure German tank superiority i'd say that higher sherman losses on a tank to tank duke out would be expected. This is just another thought that crossed my mind. Only an opionion.
  7. And i may have overdone it with my Sigs, they took off all 9 shots at the heavy AA placements and i used the IV's to quiet the lights. That little field gun you've not found a use for, i have. Place it to the far left just down the slope so that it can target the upper left corner of the train station but all else is out of LOS. Blast away to keep the MG there down. As time goes on, the little bugger seems to inch up the hill and can target upper floors elsewhere. I'm pretty good with him. LOL
  8. I've got a small PBEM going (although my opponent likely thinks he may die before we really finish it, LOL) He's been giving me pointers and helping some. I've read some of Jasons stuff, and yep, he writes as someone who has played a few on this LOL. I'm a long time wargamer, i just haven't used this platform. It's not the same as the older games where broken units don't exist or typically get treated as intact units. This is as much a battle simulation as it is a game. It's a foreign concept to "tell them what to do" instead of the usual "planning and execution" that all other games i've played use. It's very neat.
  9. Thank you PF, i almost feel like i know what i'm doing
  10. Ok, by turn 6 i was in fair ruins. I messed up some of the placement, but my sigs paniced and ran immediately as some twerp pinged a bulled off them. The same happened with the mortar crews in the halftracks.
  11. Only my opionion, but i'd say it's impossible to get a positive count on who killed what. You can figure what was blown to pieces and make a casualty list, but as to the identification of who killed how many i sorta doubt an absolute reliable material can be used. I say this simply because unlike today they did not have massive use of computers and imaging equipment that we can look back and go "yep it was him". WW2 was utilizing HUGE amounts of manpower and equipment from all nations. I wonder how many times something got blown up and someone else went "we hit it!" Tanks could have shot at the enemy not knowing that some infantryman scared out of his wits just smacked it with a bazooka, or a plane bombed it yet someone else thought he'd report it as his and have a buddy give the ole "yep i saw him". The scale of everything involved and the simple who saw what on the ground can be arguable till the end of time. It's even more concievable that those who knew the actual data were killed in action doing the fighting thus allowing the steal of the kill. Yes, we have excellent account by units telling of their achievements, but nothing says it was the norm. Only my opionions
  12. LOL, my wife would love to hear about it. Snow on the ground yet? It's 55 Farenheit here in the Memphis area. Gotta love Elvis and BBQ. My wife and I are talking about moving back that way in a few years. I want to open a BBQ place. You folks don't have any proper Ribs. Perhaps in the years to come i'll be able to introduce "pickin and grinnin" to you so you all can find out what it is about LOL. Of course, CM players i suppose will have to eat free. We need the nutrition for all our armchair combat. LOL
  13. B&T Taking the Train is the file name. It's on my disk (i just bought this 2 weeks ago)
  14. JB, you are correct in the speed factor (although i've not used the TD's in game as of yet). I was watching a documentary on these vehicles (M10 wolverine & some others??) on History Channel or one of those types. The allies were said to use them for fast scoot and shoots. They knew they were easy targets to kill. Basically what i got out of it was that they preferred to run like he11 hoping to outmanuever the opponent, they were also utilized as quick defense weapons if an area got hot and was stretched thin. I don't know that the game will work well with what i was watching though. The documentary seems to back up what you said in your post.
  15. When i get home, i'll post it for you. Taking the train may be in the description of the engagement, not the file name itself...
  16. my letters are purplish... I really kinda like it, as i'm an older fart and it stands out against everything LOL
  17. No link, it was on the disk (it should be a default game in the Battles section). I'll post the scenario name when i get home. PF, thanks, i'll have to look around and see what your talking about. I've played the germans and got them killed so many times vs the Russian AI i see the fear in my little fellows E-eyes and reading their little E-bibles soon as the game loads up. LOL
  18. Z, i too have been in all that who-maraz LOL. Gas chambers were always a ton of fun. But, in relation to diesel, you can ignite it with a cigarette lighter but it takes some time and you definately don't want wind blowing. It can be tough, but generally you add an accelerant to generate that needed heat. Diesel is explosive if under pressure though, my mechanic tells me that's basically how a diesel motor works. The compression ratios in the motors are far higher than gas motors. I'm told the reason is to combust the diesel. I don't fully understand how that works, just what i'm told. But, it's obvious that if Diesel is indeed used in the FT, then it's going to be pressurized, so perhaps that in conjunction with an accelerant adds to the ignition. Don't know, only thoughts though.
  19. Well, get yourself a fairly thick steel container and fill it with deisel fuel and shoot it. Test will be over then. LOL
  20. Well, you could also use it as a lesson in Teamwork. Assign 2 students 2 squads of men or something. They can both have their own thoughts about how to go about the objective and learn to compromise and support. WW2 was wrought with it from high command to the troops on the ground. For the allies, it was one of our hardest battles to win as it seemed every general knew best and would complain to their own goverment heads if given opportunity.
  21. I see, so it has a "i spot, everybody spots" way. Then it simply does the LOS calculations.
  22. I don't believe it. I'm sure it's there and published. Nothing to make a poor fellow feel better about strapping a bomb to his back than to give him something in print written by an engineer telling him he's safe. I know this, i know when a full metal jacket bullet penetrates steel it throws sparks everywhere. If they put their fuel in a steel container it most likely went boom if penetrated. I've seen all sorts of rounds penetrate and throw sparks. If it were a tracer round then it had phosphorus blaring in it. That would likely ignite i'd imagine. Now i do believe the psychological effects may be more dangerous than a hand carried unit. They do have limited range and endurance. I can see groups of individuals giving up quickly especially if they were shy of weapons.
