  1. The quote below is the pertaining section of my scenario file. As far as I know, there is no problem? Just to check, I resized the .raw to 512, changed the corrisponding tags in the scenario file, and tried again, with the same results. As far as I know, there shouldn't be any reason I'm crashing. It only happens with this scenario, and all of my terrain types are diggable, so it's not like it's getting confused...
  2. I found Terragen to be essential in making my map. From the Texture mask, to the texture itself, to the positioning of trees, ect, I've used Terragen in every step. I too, am on a Mac (OS X 10.4) so I can't use some of the pre-existing stuff, so I kinda had to create my own 'standards' to try this stuff. I'm sure having it available to other mac users/mappers that show up here will be a tremendeous help. I'll put up a 'Mac-Users Mapping Tutorial' in a bit. Maybe on the Wiki? As for the terraform/cutter thing.. lemme give it a shot, I'll post back in a bit. *Update- Yep, the Cutter causes the same crash. I can't seem to track down anything that would be causing this. Any ideas?* [ August 16, 2006, 12:06 PM: Message edited by: IcemanUSA ]
  3. Dark, that sounded awfully short-sighted. The game is as real, or unreal, as the players make it. Personally, every near-full (12-14 human players) game that I've played is very much a battle of mobile strategy, involving cover, resupply, and counter-offense. As a matter of fact, just a few days ago, I played a round where at first, we all dropped in 'throw away' vehicles (Think 10 MM Ion Apollos) at the north end of the map (I don't recall the name all the sudden). While the enemy, which had time to bolster their defenses during planning, was busy wiping us out, a single cutter dropped in the southeast corner, and fortified a position there by capturing the AA towers. We successfully won that round there, all through a 'smoke and mirrors' tactic used at the beginning so we had a clear drop zone. It was one of the best stratigic moves I've seen pulled in this game, and I was most impressed to see how well it worked. I would hardly say this is a 'fps under the guise of tanks', Dark. Anywho.. like has been said, Mcoyote, most (if not all) of those are being considered. I'm personally looking forward to a 'weather' implementation. Having it rain on a map could make things a lot more interesting.
  4. Thanks clay, that helped tremendeously I'm almost done with with my map. It's really starting to look nice. The one odd thing is that when I fire a HE round, the game freezes and crashes when it impacts the terrain. Only on this map, the ones included with the game do not crash. Is there something I may be forgetting that is causing this? *edit* Upon further testing, it appears that only the 120MM + rounds cause a crash. The 20MM HE rounds that come from vehicles such as the mercury do not cause a crash. [ August 15, 2006, 08:09 PM: Message edited by: IcemanUSA ]
  5. Thanks Clay, that did it Now I just have to figure a decent way of getting coordinate data so I can plant stuff in the right areas
  6. Howdy all, My map is actually starting to take shape. I can't say that Terragen is the most 'intuitive' way to design a terrain, but it's coming together (I'm gonna check out the others mentioned in the manual, see if any are easier to use). At the moment, I only have a very basic map together. More realisim, ect, will be added once I get the dang thing working. Right now, until I figure out how to set Terragen up to give me a decent texture mask (The manual mentions using terragen to do it, but I have yet to find out how to do it. If anyone can clear that up, it would be much appreciated.) I've been using a very very basic jpg file. Basically, the green is where land is, and the blue where water is. I've got the corrisponding detail textures set in my scenario file. The thing is, once I drag everything into the data folder, and try to run it through the scenario menu, it gets to 'loading texture masks' and Dropteam freezes and crashes. I'm running OS X 10.4.7. I looked at my files, and there didn't appear to be anything wrong with em. Both the texture, and texture mask files are 2048 X 2048 pixels, and they are both named and defined correctly. The texture is a .tif, and the texture mask is a .jpg, if that makes a difference. Any idea what might be causing this? It only happens with my scenario, not any of the normal maps. Cheers, Ice
  7. Aye, the colored map. The stuff that appears before the detail textures do. Good link, mate. The problem is that I'm running OS X. I guess I'll keep poking around for now.
  8. Howdy all, After reading through the Creating Scenarios instructions, and realizing just how easy it would be to create one in comparison to most other games, I've decided to give it a shot. FYI- The image editor I'd be using is Adobe Photoshop Elements 3. I can get the general idea for my map laid out (Shapes.. land will be here, water will be here sorta thing), but my problem lies in actually creating the textures. I see all of these really complex ones by looking through the files for other maps that were created, but I have no idea how these are being done. So basically.. how do y'all go about making the grass textures and whatnot? Any particular method? (FYI- This will be green grass, not yellow). Thank yas -Ice

    Wiki anyone?

Looks like the page was put up, but taken back down by Wikipedia's copyright filters :\ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DropTeam *edit: nevermind, not filters. Someone (don't recognize the name) just did that cuz the quote was taken directly from the DT webpage*

    Worth it?

I donno about calling the AI 'too easy' yet clay. I got my butt kicked for the 3rd time on the 2nd Campiegn mission today
  12. Howdy, I've spend some time playing the campeign missions of DT while I wait for the next Account Server reset so I can play online I just managed to beat the first level today Dang, it was hard! And now I'm stuck on the second one (Where you have to capture and hold the Antimatter facility) Well, anywho.. I was curious as to the best use of HE rounds. I know that at close range, AP rounds are great for AFV killing if you can plant the round correctly. (I've had a number of 1 shot kills from a MBT when the AP round goes in the right place, like the battery). HEAT rounds are really good for long distance tank killing, as they don't rely quite so much on speed and penetration. (Taking out a turret is sometimes just as good as blowing the vehicle up all together). But I have yet to even manage a kill using HE rounds. As far as I can tell, I'm not even damaging my target. What good are these rounds? I occasionally see the bots in Paladins (keep in mind, I'm still very early in the Campiegn ) take out another vehicle with their HE rounds, but I can't seem to manage it myself, even with the MBT's 120 MM gun. Do I need to get up close and blast the HE round right into the chassis of my target and kill the 'squishy' parts inside? So, basically.. what are HE rounds good for, or best suited to use for? -Ice
  13. It would be interesting. Have a map set up like the battlefield, and predeployed assets controlled by the AI. You, the commander, control everything from the TACMAP, and try to rewrite history.
  14. Clay.. did I ever mention you are freaking awesome? I can just imagine.. reenacting historical WW2 battles... Battle of the Bulge, for example. Maybe try to rewrite history. See what it would be like if they had different commanders? I think it could be seriously cool! Cheers clay!

    AAD

I think a better idea would be kinda like what Yurch suggusted. Maybe instead of vaporizing the projectile in a poof, it detonates it, so that the explosion still hurts those sitting below the tower...
  16. Howdy all, it be me again. I was gonna ask if any admin or whomever has that almight power could delete my name that I signed up with for the DropTeam demo, so I can sign up using it for the main game. DropTeam demo name: Iceman If I need to prove that is me in any way, let me know and I'll do whatever I can.

Yep, the same, lovable, Iceman from Macologist . Nice to see ya Well, anywho. I ended up falling asleep before the download finished, so I'm installing it now. I'm gonna check out the campiegn before signing online. Could anyone who has the power rename (or delete) the account "Iceman" that I signed up with for the demo , so I can create it to use with the main game? If ya need any proof that it's me, I'll do whatever I can. (I also had an account by the same name here, but I've forgotten the password, and the email linked to that account doesn't exist anymore)

    Worth it?

Well, I decided to do it. Game is downloading now at a blistering *looks* 56.1 KB/sec ^.^ Estimated time remaining- 2 hrs 55 mins Well, anywho.. If i'm still up when it's done, I'll drop on and check out the online play with new maps. Hope to see some of ya on there. Oh, yeah... anyone who would know.. is there a way to rename my Iceman account that I signed up for the demo so that I can use that name for the full version? (I might not use Iceman.. I've been trying to think of a better name.. who knows. Any suggustions?)

    Wiki anyone?

That would be really nice. Until I spent some time reading the manual, I've been lost in multiplayer (and that's the DEMO! ) I think a wiki with info about the game, about how damage works, targeting artillery, and descriptions of the various shots and units would be very helpful, as many people don't read the manual and just jump right in.

    Worth it?

I think I might just do that. I've spent some time playing recently, and, granted, the Multiplayer isn't quite as active as it could be, (Only 3 servers show up to me, 1 demo and 2 retail) but with the bots replacing humans, and the fact that the bots aren't total idiots, having nooone online isn't that bad, and it's all the more fun with humans. I've personally gotten a fondness for the Thor Heavy Artillery. On the demo map, I've gotten pretty good at hitting things, though sometimes it's hard to tell when the shot comes back down. (it seems that you don't see the explosion/dust cloud if you don't hit anything) I think it would be kind of cool if half of the opposing team on the one demo map (I can't remember its name... kinda a grassy field with a base in the middle) dropped in with a bunch of artillery on the hills and just blasted the base into kingdom come. If anything, it would make cool footage for someone recording it I particularlly like the smoke effects, and how the ground will be destroyed/displaced with explosive shots. All in all, a very realistic game. I'm gonna check over the bank statement that came in the mail today, and I might be downloading the full version as early as tonight, so some of ya better be on! -Ice

    Worth it?

Howdy all, I've been playing the DT demo for a while, but haven't gotten the full version. I've recently noticed that I have enough money to get a new game if I wanted. (Gas isn't sucking most of my paycheck ) Now then, I guess here are the questions to ask.. 1. How well will the game run? Its been a bit since I've last played (.91 I think...) and my computer worked pretty hard to play this game. FYI Mac OS X 10.4.7 Powerbook G4 1.67 Ghz, 512 MB RAM 2. Is it worth the money? It's been a long time since I've found a good game, especially one that has a good multiplayer mode. Multiplayer can make or break a game for me. 3. Is multiplayer very active? 4. I don't know how much longer I'll have this computer. Been looking into a new one in the next year or so (HS Graduation in 2007 ^.^). If I download the PPC version of DropTeam, and I got an Intel Mac, would I need to pay again to get the Intel version of the game? I'm seriously considering this game, especially with the announcement of a WW2 mod... Any input is appreciated Thank yas -Ice
