  1. I'm in love. I just played an objective game as the attacker. Clear sight lines (IE no trees), hills for cover, good spots for hull down... I like it. I'm not sure how much I will like it as the defender, but it does have promise. Going in to try a CTF game now. [ August 05, 2006, 08:59 AM: Message edited by: Jalinth ]
  2. Point. Well one possiablity is to use simpler and less good looking buildings. I don't know if it would help any, but it is an idea.
  3. I KNEW I forgot something. Note to self - Read the Flaming Manual. Thank you sir! I shall dive right in!
  4. I've got a scenario idea that will require some new plant life in order to look right. Some distinctly non-Terran plants, but I will want the original stuff as well. Is it possible to add additional types of plants/grass?
  5. I for one would love a city fight. Lots of close quarters shootouts and short sight lines. Perhaps one could have jammers in each building, or just some of the key ones to represent all the stuff interfering with sensors. This would really allow infantry to shine. Many places where they can jump over buildings and either get a top shot at the armour or just flank the 'perfect' ambush.
  6. Well the Hermes is specificly mentioned as not being able to carry infantry in the fluff on the main page. I'm not sure why you would want to move infantry with something that has no business in close combat. As for the ATGM, well I can understand why they decided that it can not carry troops.
  7. Thank you! Now Infantry will have some long range mobility. I can't wait to see what happens when you drive a couple paladins into the enemy and drop some Infantry to add to the confusion.
  8. ClaytoniousRex, I just have to say you and your team ROCK. Best Service Ever!
  9. I THINK I've got most to all of them. Perhaps post a thread with all of the maps in one place, along with install instructions. Or have a mini 1.1.1a patch with the new maps?
  10. Well I don't know about the dev team, but *I* have a couple ideas... Overkill is like Santa Claus. A myth! [ July 31, 2006, 06:19 PM: Message edited by: Jalinth ]
  11. DropTeam is a game that has some fairly decent 'realism feel', but CTF... I guess it might make sense if you fluff it out as a computerized training excercise, but... Take and Hold is something I would like to play some more of
  12. I didn't write this, and it is not specific to DropTeam, but it might make for some interesting fodder for discussion http://us.geocities.com/copeab/CIWS.htm
  13. Sounds like Gear Krieg. It's got Tigers with ATGMs. And Walkers. And Telsa Cannons on the Maginot line. Not to mention Nazi Zombies. Sounds like got material for a mod to me!
  14. Actually, it sounds like Starship Troopers, the 1959 Novel.
  15. Just watched the movie, and it's great. That is precisely how I've managed to get some success with infantry. Distract the enemy then ram an AT grenade into his hull. I've not managed to get 3 Thors at once, but... give me time. It's also a good example of the only way I've really been killed by infantry in an AFV. Got distracted by another AFV and then BOOM. As for the Light Ions, the best use I've found so far is sniping Turrets, Sensors, and Sensor Jammers. You can be a nice distance away, are hard to spot, and can often clear an area without taking much, if any fire. Sending a team of infantry into the back of the enemy base, underwater, then rising out of the waves to cut a path for the armour is also rather nice. 16. First, a big thanks to ClaytoniousRex! Information updates like that do WONDERS to make people feel better. The activity of the Devs on the forums was a big thing in me deciding to shell out the cash for the game. I like that. I think infantry should show up on sensors if they make a big enough signature, but a quick burst should get over looked. I think he wants the same thing I want. When you zoom in with a vehicle, there is a little box that gives such fun data as your speed and range to target. With infantry, all you get is a decent 'goggle' effect and some to loud deep breathing. Another suggestion is to allow infantry to Zoom in, at least one level. Doesn't need to be much, just enough to be like I was using a low powered scope or binoculars. Perhaps an extra level with the Ion Gun, but that might be to much, as only the Thor can zoom in that much.
  17. Rather then get creative, I'll just re-post my idea from another thread. Not like this board is in danger of getting overloaded with traffic http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=48;t=000173 Another thought - Don't bother with dropships for Infantry. Send them in Drop Pods "Starship Trooper's" Novel Style. With the confusion that the drop pods create, and some form of engineer teams that can take over buildings, well I can see the perfect way to take out hard targets. Here's a few quotes - One of the things that helps a capsule trooper to live long enough to draw a pension is that the skins peeling off his capsule not only slow him down, they also fill the sky over the target area with so much junk that radar picks up reflections from dozens of targets for each man in the drop, any one of which could be a man, or a bomb, or anything. It’s enough to give a ballistic computer nervous breakdowns—and does. To add to the fun your ship lays a series of dummy eggs in theseconds immediately following your drop, dummies that will fall faster because they don’t slough. They get under you, explode, throw out "window," even operate as transponders, rocket sideways, and do other things to add to the confusion of your reception committee on the ground. The first charge cut all the straps; the second charge exploded the plastic egg away from me in eight separate pieces — and I was out doors, sitting on air, and could see! Better still, the eight discarded pieces were metal-coated (except for the small bit I had taken proximity reading through) and would give back the same reflection as an armored man. Any radar viewer, alive or cybernetic, would now have a sad time sorting me out from the junk nearest me, not to mention the thousands of other bits and pieces for miles on each side, above, and below me. Part of a mobile infantryman’s training is to let him see, from the ground and both by eye and by radar, just how confusing a drop is to the forces on the ground— because you feel awful naked up there. It is easy to panic and either open a chute too soon and become a sitting duck (do ducks really sit? — if so, why?) or fail to open it and break your ankles, likewise backbone and skull.
  18. I've had the same problem. I've been happily sniping turrets and Jammers and the BOOM SirJalinth has TEAMKILLED SirJalinth's Specialist with BEAM WEAPON. I think the Infantry Ion guns need some better heatsinks...
  19. I like the Extra ammo in a Paladin idea. Calling down a Galaxy to reload a squad of troopers just seems... wrong. I've killed a couple Apollos with the 10mm rifle at close range to the rear armour. The 10mm will also slice up Shrikes very well. Still, it is very obvious that the Light infantry need some tweaking to make them generally useful.
  20. Aye. I found very little threat from yllamana's Infantry when I was doing my flag runs. Often I would spot them before they were in position and cut them apart with my 20mm HE rounds. Still I HAVE managed to close assault a couple Thors and kill them. It's really fun when it works. Also, spotting a dropship about to land on top of your troops can be a bit freaky. It was great fun chopping yllamana's squad to bits with my squad before he could get orientated. Infantry kill Infantry VERY effictivly. It takes some practice but your trooper can skim along the ground. Hit your jets enough to get off the ground, let off just long enough to start falling then hit the jets again while holding foreward. I've managed to get some rather nice low hops going like that. Finally on Moon maps, I've found that my jets recharge very fast. By using some finesse with them I've been able to get up to an obscne level above ground. Dropships were appearing below me. Gave me a good look at the whole map, though I'd not want to be the dude in the suit doing such a pop-up manuver. EVERYBODY on the map could see me, even if the didn't bother shooting at me.
  21. Jalinth

    Favorite AFV

For me it's either the Apollo 120mm for most of the same reasons, or the Ion Thor. There's nothing quite like sitting beside a Point defense tower and working that Ion beam into your targets. From popping wheels and Shirkes in an instant or the satisfaction of causing a Thor to brew up.
  22. Man, that sure does look mighty some pretty. I'm downloading it as I type.
  23. I'm not sure if repairs of buildings is really feasable on the time scale of the game. Really depends on the design of the buildings. More musings on the subject later. Food is ready.
  24. Oh, and adding in the <NumberOfShotsPerFire>X</NumberOfShotsPerFire>, will set how large each burst is. So if you want your 20mm cannons to fire bursts of 5 or your Heavy Mortor to empty it's mags with one pull of the trigger, you can do it. [ July 20, 2006, 07:16 PM: Message edited by: Jalinth ]
  25. First - Very interesting scenario. I've downloaded it and will be trying it out in a little while. Yes, that would be wonderful. I've got some interesting ideas that would be very messy with the standard loadout of armour. [ July 20, 2006, 08:34 AM: Message edited by: Jalinth ]
