  1. Step one, create a new directory in the Mods Folder. Call it whatever. Step two - in that folder create a folder name 'Data' Step three copy the "*.physicalobjectgroup" files into the Data Directory Step four - Open the '.physicalobjectgroup' file you want to change with Notepad or Wordpad. Step Five - Do a search in the file for GUN. The things you want to change should be there. Take a look at more then one '.physicalobjectgroup' file for ideas about what can be added or changed. Step Six - Start playing around Step 7 - Load up DropTeam, goto the mods panel and select your mod Step 8 - Start a Stand alone game, and test out your creation. Step 9 - Goto 4
  2. OH! Engineering Squads that can dig in sounds good to me!
  3. I just want to second this request. Custom looks might be nice.
  4. Interesting mod. I'll have to download it and try it out. As for the Paladin, I like it. It would be perfect if the game had fixed mount guns, but that sucker does amuse me. Mounting that gun on a Cutter would be PERFECT though. CEV's to me just scream "Big, Low Velocity, HE firing Demolition cannons"
  5. Perhaps the simplest option would be to have allied mines appear on the map or make them more obvious on the game screen to the team that layed them. I know I've had troubles using mines, because I don't actually know how big of an area they cover.
  6. I just noticed the new blog. Goes into some details about the infantry. This patch will only add light infanty, but they look like they could be VERY interesting. The screenshots look most promising. I for one, can't wait! http://www.battlefront-newsletter.com/Blogfront/tabid/55/EntryID/21/Default.aspx Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?" But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll, The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll, O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.
  7. And this my friend is one of the reasons I'm coming to love DropTeam. "Hmmm... Game not working well for you? We'll get right on that, there are a few things we can change to make things better for you."

    Custom Music

Mechwarrior 2 was a game that I got before I had a computer that would actually run it. So I got a fair amount of play out of the Soundtrack on the disc. It and the expansion 'Ghost Bear Legacy' have some great music. As for putting music into the '\sound\Music' folder, I tried it. The only problem is 99% of my music is in MP3 format rather then .ogg, and while good, Divine Divinity just doesn't quite do 'armoured warfare' for me. I'm sure there is a good reason that MP3's won't work, and so I am curious as to why? Another thought that springs to mind. Is there any free software out there that can convery .MP3 to OGG? Hot Drops

That is a good point. Still, a later generation of the drop ship could be redesigned to make this feasable. I'm glad you like them. Your ideas are also quite interesting. Sonic Booms are fun! Quite frankly there is nothing I quite like so much as a screaming orbital drop. "Plunging down from Orbit on Wings of FIRE"

    Hot Drops

Another thought - Don't bother with dropships for Infantry. Send them in Drop Pods "Starship Trooper's" Novel Style. With the confusion that the drop pods create, and some form of engineer teams that can take over buildings, well I can see the perfect way to take out hard targets. Here's a few quotes - One of the things that helps a capsule trooper to live long enough to draw a pension is that the skins peeling off his capsule not only slow him down, they also fill the sky over the target area with so much junk that radar picks up reflections from dozens of targets for each man in the drop, any one of which could be a man, or a bomb, or anything. It’s enough to give a ballistic computer nervous breakdowns—and does. To add to the fun your ship lays a series of dummy eggs in theseconds immediately following your drop, dummies that will fall faster because they don’t slough. They get under you, explode, throw out "window," even operate as transponders, rocket sideways, and do other things to add to the confusion of your reception committee on the ground. The first charge cut all the straps; the second charge exploded the plastic egg away from me in eight separate pieces — and I was out doors, sitting on air, and could see! Better still, the eight discarded pieces were metal-coated (except for the small bit I had taken proximity reading through) and would give back the same reflection as an armored man. Any radar viewer, alive or cybernetic, would now have a sad time sorting me out from the junk nearest me, not to mention the thousands of other bits and pieces for miles on each side, above, and below me. Part of a mobile infantryman’s training is to let him see, from the ground and both by eye and by radar, just how confusing a drop is to the forces on the ground— because you feel awful naked up there. It is easy to panic and either open a chute too soon and become a sitting duck (do ducks really sit? — if so, why?) or fail to open it and break your ankles, likewise backbone and skull.

    Custom Music

While dropteams music isn't bad, I really don't notice other then at the menu. What do you like to listen to while sending 120mm HEAT rounds downrange? As for me, I have a mix. One of the lists I use has such things as Conquistador - Procol Harum Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Öyster Cult Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin. Paint It Black - Rolling Stones Eye of the Tiger - Survivor Winterborn - Cruxshadows Through the Fire and Flames - DragonForce Another list has the soundtracks from Mechwarrior 2, Heavy Gear, and Robotech. Thanks to the fact I have a laptop, I use that to play music while I am doing other games. That way I can control exactly what I want to hear without having to either run other software in the background or fiddle with the normally clunky in-game music

    Hot Drops

No complaints, just some random musings here. What I've found a touch jarring is the fact the drop ships come in vertically, all big fat dumb and happy, not to mention slowly. When I think of dropships in this kind of environment I think of burning for the ground as fast as your engines, control systems, and heat shields will let you. Then blast along NOE, just missing the trees as you go around (not over) hills. Finally you get to the requested dropzone and the pilot (be it human or electronic) hits the retros hard, slowing just long enough to let out the tank or troops. Then he bugs out in the same manner as he came in, but following a different path. Or if you are dropping into an area with no clear lines of flight, you just go straight down like a bat heading back into hell, hitting the retros at the last possible moment. You dump the cargo then climb for the black like a homesick meteor. Of course it might be a bit hard to do, do very "interesting" things to balence, not to mention that what we have now works rather well, but sure is a cool mental image no? 13. Aye. I can't help but thinking a Dropship would be at least as expensive as a tank. The way the dropships come in is a bit odd to me as well, but I'll save that for a new post. I've not used the Galaxy much yet. I'll have to take a closer look at it tonight.
  14. Interesting. Try uploading the images to something like Photobucket and post a link here. I just got finished testing a Cluster Morter. Just added this one line to the Paladin Arty Vee and upped the ammo to 3200 each. <NumberOfShotsPerFire>32</NumberOfShotsPerFire> It's not quite what I wanted, but I can see some potential, with a smaller shell. Droping 30 some 20mm HE rounds on someones head might ruin their day. Droping 32 Hurricane morter rounds on a targets head... INSANE. Still 3 Thor's with the Hermes PDS is enough to stop the barrage cold.
  15. I've not dug into the date files much, but I have done a couple fun little things such as 1 - Making 120mm Heat rounds into mini-nukes 2 - Mounting an 10mm Ion Gun on a Cutter EV 3 - Mounting the automatic gun from the Hermes on the back of a Thor. I just can't seem to move the gun to a postion where it doesn't look like it is poking out of the turret with clipping. Still the gun works fine for taking down dropships and ATGMS 4 - Discovering the power of a hellbore. 600 armour ablation on a hit is nothing to snear at! (Normal is 6) Nothing serious or balenced, but it has been an interesting learning experience so far. So what have you done?
  16. I just got the full Version a couple days ago. Look for SirJalinth As for time of day that I'm on, it varies. Anytime from Noon to 4 AM EST.

  18. Thanks for the complement, and an even bigger thanks for the link. I've been looking for tactics posts since I got the demo. I found a great deal of valuable information in some posts, but it's all been very spread out. I plan to post a part 2 later tonight. I'm no expert, but I have gotten pretty decent at the demo. Still debating on if I'm going to get the full version or not. Great game, but cash for 'fun' stuff is tight enough I have to make careful choices.
  19. I've been playing the demo on and off for the past week or so, and have come up with a few basic tips and tactics that work fairly well. I don't doubt that all of these have been discovered independently many times before, but I haven't seen a thread about it yet, so here is what I've got. These range from the very simple to slightly less simple. Tip 1 - Don’t drop your tank right on top of the enemy. It takes time for your dropship to land and it is a easy target. Also note the 3 automatic Ion Towers. They will shoot down your dropship VERY quickly! Tip 2 - Teamwork is essential. Talk to your teammates and come up with a plan. Doesn’t have to be anything amazing, but you will have better results if you are not working cross purposes Tip 3 - Communicate. If the enemy has some hidden turrets, mines, or tanks then let your teammates know about them. Tip 4 - Turrets. Don’t just drop them randomly all over the map. Turrets are VERY easy to kill. You have to use them to help cover your back, not to hold off the enemy by themselves. If you drop a sensor jammer near the turrets in makes them FAR more survivable Tip 5 - Towers - If you drive a Cutter EV right up to the side of the Ion Towers, you can capture it. You’ll have to make sure someone else is covering you, but turning the enemies towers against them is VERY useful. Tip 6 - Everything is useful, but you have to know how to get the best effect out of them to be worthwhile. Even a 20mm cannon can kill a heavy tank if you drill enough rounds into the rear armour. Tip 7 - Location Damage - Tanks have more armour to their front then their sides. The have more armour to their sides then their rear. If you have a small gun, don’t bounce shots of the front plates, work your way around to the sides or rear. Conversely if you are being shot at, pointing ‘front towards enemy’ could save your life. Tip 8 - Don’t sit still. If you are not moving, you are an EASY target. Even if he misses the first time, it won’t be a problem for him to correct and slam the second or third round into you. Even a small movement can throw off his aim. Tip 9 - Ion Cannons - Yes, you can kill things with them. The secret is to engage your enemies from a distance, and focus the fire on one spot. The Ion weapons work by burning a hole into the target, reducing their armour at the point of impact. Pick a point on the enemy and constantly adjust aim to that point. I’ve gotten 12-20 kills a game with nothing but an Ion Cannon armed Thor. Versus wheeled vehicles, I tend to blow off the wheels then focus on taking out the vee. Tanks, you just have to pick a spot and work at it. Right then, there are a few preliminary tips. Anyone care to add anything to them? Poke holes in my reasoning? Clear up any misconceptions I have?
