  1. Thanks for the welcome, all. It's nice to see that people remember me. The DT community was and still is great. 152mm, I seem to remember playing with/against you at some point. Perhaps when I was at a LAN party in town. I was in Barrie when I got the game, but I have since moved back home to near Kingston, Ontario. I'm out in the country so no high speed for me. I don't know when I'll be getting an apartment in town, but once I do I plan to get back into DT. I can't wait to teach all the new kids* about the dangers of a dedicated Thor heavy mortar user. I've missed the feeling of taking out dropships with them. *We will ignore the fact that I, at under 25 years of age, am probably younger then a fair number of the DT players.
  2. Damn, I can't wait until move and I get high speed again. I have missed this game. It just isn't playable on dial-up, at least with the speeds I get. By the way, has there been any news in the last year or so from the DT programmers? Things seem to have fallen awfully silent on that front.
  3. That would explain why I saw so many Infantry with that name yesterday.

    things I like

I'll Second the long range tank kill. My personal fav. is taking out a Dropship with a mortar shell. Doesn't happen often (to say the least), but it is a great feeling taking out a flyer using a weapon with a 25 second flight time.
  5. Excellent. And good timing for me to. I'm going to have access to High Speed again for the first time since Christmas as of a week today. It will be nice to play some Drop Team again. It just doesn't work worth beans on Dial-Up. And before I forget - Happy birthday Iceman & Smeltz! Not long ago I was guessing I might be one of the youngest DT players, but it seems Iceman's got me beat hands down. I'll be 23 in June

    threat tables

VERY NICE! No longer do I have to rely on my observations about what range to use different ammos. When I get back to having a High Speed Connection, I will print up some of these tables for reference during gameplay. Thank you sir!
  7. In Linux? I've got no idea. In Windows one has to hit print screen, and then alt tab out of the game to a program like paint and paste it into there image.
  8. That was a good game. One thing I noticed that may have hurt you was for a while most of the water team was dropping in the same general area. I just happened to be in a Thor Mortar and was shelling the heck out of the area. What this meant was I was able to cause a fair amount of damage to your forces. Even if I missed who I was aiming at, by the time the shell arrived something quite possibly had moved into the area where it was landing. I know I took out at least 3 tanks and a Dropship with my indirect fire. So the lesson to be learned here is - Change your LZ from time to time. Especially if some damn fool with red pants is making your LZ look like the backside of the moon.

    Tempest

As far as I know Any hovercraft that goes under water for any reason goes 'BOOM'. They are "Very Hydrophobic."
  10. I wonder, is Saturday afternoon a good time for anybody? It would have the advantage of not being the day before monday, so people in Europe (such as Bertram) would be less troubled by the timing issues.
  11. I regret to inform you that the Liveship "Ruby's Dragon" will not be arriving in time for the battle. It's forces have been called away to engage the Clans on the borders of the Inner Sphere, followed by a humanitarian works involving decorating the church Sunday afternoon. The offer of free Pizza was to tempting to resist!
  12. The crew of the mercenary Liveship Ruby's Dragon will offer it's services to the highest bidder. Specializing in heavy indirect fire support, we are ready to pound our employers foes into the dirt!
  13. Just for the record - This movie, with the wrong music is... odd. I use WinAmp to play movies and FooBar to play music. I clicked start on this movie right as a song finished playing, intending to stop the MP3. I didn't quite get to stoping the music before it started. The song that came on was Hayley Westerna's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zucZ5LEuTcI. As it sounded well enough with the intro text, I let it play. Strangly enough, with the sound of the video turned down, it actually worked. Not as well as Bonnie Tyler's "I Need a Hero" Syncs up with the opening movie of Mechwarrior 4, but it was amusing.
  14. I wish I could take credit, but I am but a humble servant of the god of war. It is through his blessed shells that I do his work. His divine will guides them to his cursed foes such that they may be cleansed in his purifying fires. How his shells land to purge the unbelievers while preserving the faithful is a one of the great mysteries of the faith. Only his chosen few are gifted to learn the great truths, the truths of observation, of flight times, of leading and of sustained fire. Only his true disciples are taught the lessons of direct viewing, the wonders of reading the output of his most holy deployables, and of the mantras striking down the infidels unholy "DZ"s. Artilleryman Jalinth, servant of the King of Battles and follower of the god of war! (Who in real life, is actually a civi, but his pants do seem to be turning red for some reason... .) I THOUGHT I had annoyed someone when I took a break from shelling and noticed that the tower I had put the troops into had disappeared. Amazing how much people hate that little 6mm beam of aggravation! During that Gentle Monopods game, I took a cutter and tore up the road leading into the objective. Anyone notice? Was it a problem for the attackers or should I waste my time doing something else next time?
  15. Nice! I like that a great deal. Static defenses like at are tremendously useful!
  16. Two good games yesterday. I was in the same two that __Yossarian0815[jby] mentioned, on the other team. I got it a bit late for the CTF game, so I didn't know anything about the mines. The other team very nearly managed to get a flag capture. I know I was sweating something awful as it kept getting closer and closer to scoring. What I had fun doing was bringing down the hammer. I'm starting to get better at judging where to put rounds from my Thor-M to do the most good. In the second game I took out 2 or 3 Bacchus and a host of turrets. High point for me - Guessing right where a dropship would land and knocking it down a mortar shell. As for the Ion Inf in the building, that was me. I'm glad you liked the house guests! The Raid map has really changed a lot since I first played it on the demo. One of the big things is the Drop Pods. Anyone wondering how I managed to get a couple AA turrets and a pair of 90mm turrets down in the AoE of your PD tower?
  17. I am just a player, so I could be wrong or plans could have changed from the information I read. However as far as I know a new demo should be coming out soon-ish. The Dev team has commented that they are working on a new version. Thier first priority has been the retail game (for obvious reasons). Still, with luck you will be able to see all the wonderful new improvements soon. ClaytoniousRex can no doubt answer your question in more detail.
  18. A wonderful, wonderful list of improvements. I was busy today, but I took a couple minutes for some free style driving earlier. The Tracers and the suspension are very nice. The physics improvements sound very nice. Can't wait to see them in action.

    Wish List

Here are a few ideas that I got during the game today. Improvement in how to call in Arty from people in a mortar track. The grid system helps, but you can not see it when in the ctrl-M map and you can not see Waypoints. If I could fire my Mortar from the Tac Map that would be handy. How about if you are within a certain range of a Mercury (say LOS and 200 meters) you can access it's TacComp? So if I park my Thor beside a command track I will be able to see everything that an ally can see. That would be immensely useful. Being able to get a reload infantry from a Drop Pod is great. The problem is that by the time you need it, the pod is normally quite a distance away. Even if you can get there without getting shot, it normally disappears before you can get a load. I would like to be able to call in empty drop pods to reload infantry. Normally I don't want to waste one my deployables just to give an infantry squad a reload, and besides I can't call one in myself anyway. Dropping a pod with nothing but ammo would be very handy at times. There would have to be some limit to this, to prevent sending in 50 pods to overload the AA. Another Drop Pod issue. I called in some pods to drop on top of buildings during the city fight today. The pods landed and just sat there, not unloading thier cargo. 20. That was a great game everyone. In summary: Two Territory games, 1 CTF, and an Objective map. Score - 3 for the Upstarts, 1 for the Dev Team. After most all of the Upstarts left JBY and I kept playing. We didn't do so well, but we did manage to cause some damage and get some units into the Objective before the end. When the OpFor is 5 humans including ImperialGrunt, Clay, and the rest of the Devs (I think. I wasn't paying attention to names) I think that is close enough to a victory [ October 22, 2006, 03:21 PM: Message edited by: Jalinth ]
  21. Unless something massivly bad happens, I'm going to be there. I'm skipping the Battletech game and church to make it
  22. Any chance of their being room for another player next week? I was rather busy today to say the least, but next Sunday I should be free to dance. I may not be the whirling dervish of destruction that some of you are, but I can follow orders
  23. That is quite an improvement. Looking good sir!
  24. That you sir. The Log was saying that the "Modem Line in" was being used. This was not what Control Panel was saying, so I disabled the Modem Sound entirly, as it was not being used for anything. My mic seems to be working now, at least in stand alone games. I suspect the problem is now solved. Thank you for your help. [Edit - The Voice chat is working just fine now. I was using it with a couple different people tonight] [ October 11, 2006, 06:45 PM: Message edited by: Jalinth ]
