  1. I recently bought an electronic chess game and was surprised to see it was impossible to beat the AI at entry level (countrary to the older version I bought 15 years ago...). Apparently AI improvement results mainly from storing more and more pre-programed game situations (especially begining/end of games). Following the SC2/PDE game I just finished agains AI, I believe some improvements are still possible ! - by storing more situations of global strategy (for instance Axis should leave north Africa once its position on the continent is too weak, or it should retreat from eastern europe once Germany is threatened by an invasion invaded - by improving logic at tactical level (for instance, in north Africa, I managed to stop Axis which used during more than a year an anti-tank unit to attack my infantry (had it used a tank unit instead, Axis would have won north africa) Another remark regarding the speed of the game which I find too slow (perhaps due to the number of the scripts, or the programing language if interpreted & not compiled)
  2. It's true that we get more challenge if the IA receives bonus units but I like the idea to play in historical conditions => initial conditions should be the same for both IA & Human players! Regarding the italian fleet, I usually try to destroy it when I play the allies, but this time I didn't manage to destroy it entirely... not on purpose though I sometim realize that IA may allocate MPPs to some 'expensive' units which are not its priority strategically speaking (for instance, in a defensive strategy, MPP should be alocated to units holding defensive positions, and in usually not to units used to attack such as tanks)
  3. For instance, I noticed Italy managed to build 2 HQ & other forces (Italy did no conquer other countries & production points in my current game) while when I played Axis, Italy had not the resources to buy those units...
  4. I am about to beat the germans at level 0 and I have the following comments/suggestions 1) IA is performing better but still lacks a "strategic vision" to concentrate its units in certain circumstances : 2 examples : - After DDay in France (from Marseille), IA left several strong units iddle in the west part of France instead of regrouping them (near Paris for instance) - While I started to counter attack in Russia, a few german units (including strong Armored ones) are venturing to the east, to conquer cities Maybe it could be possible to define a variable whereby the IA determines a global defensive strategy => no venturing in unknown territories, regrouping force in strategic positions Other remark : HQ units manage to block passage to armies and sometimes manage to hold a city while attacked by an army. I suggest HQ automatically retreat when the turn ends and they remain in contact with an enemy unit (a bit like subs escape strategy). Finally, I don't like the idea that resources at not equal for the IA and the Human player... Apart from that, IA provides a good challenge !
  5. If you consider AI in chess computer games, it's mainly able to beat you because of its huge library of memorised situations and processor speed able to scroll through it ... not a real AI neither ...
  6. Hello, I am running on a Intel dualcore + 1920/1200 + GEForce something and my problem is not with the scroll delay or unit display but with the time needed for the AI to complete its turn (about 9mn in 1944). Maybe to many units ? I tried the F3 but it opens Works which is not really of great help. Otherwise I noticed again a great improvement with the AI, as I was defeated by the allieds (1st time since I play the game without changing experience & difficulty levels). Many unexpected attacks make the game much more fun!
  7. I just finished my 1st campaign with WAW playing against Axis. My first impression is very good, the WAW brings many great improvements, beating the AI is a challenge now. A few comments below : - The restult of the campaign was quite close to what happened historically, Germany was much more difficult to beat - Axis failed to win Leningrad, but with a bit more concentration of firepower (use of armored units for instance), could have been achieved. On the other hand in 45, some air attack were still performed by the AI - D-day successufull in south of France, by the way why did Germany did not invade Vichy as it happened historically ? - In 44/45 many german units were still fighting outside of their home country (north africa, Finland, Balkans) and fortifications build in France and Benelux were not used effectively - I noticed the display is slower with WAW when many units are on the map (similar to earlier versions of SC2) - Finally, due to the time to complete the campaign, maybe would it be possible to accelerate the game with an option making the AI play instantly (no sound, no message, no unit movement ...)
  8. Hello Hubert, In fact I have been using the same resolution in the game as with my computer (1920x1200 monitor : HP f2304) Thank you for your help Youri
  9. Sorry to bother you during the we... I use a 1920x1200 screen
  10. Hello, after installing the v1.07, I get the following error message window when clicking on a unit : "Direct X failed : unspecified errors". I was previously running on v1.06 with Vista 32 /2Go and installed Direct X9. Thank you
  11. Not exactly the same pb, but the game crashes when clicking on the 1st unit - DirectX pb signaled...

  13. I had a similar experience with France holding until 1941, it was then to late for German IA to defeat USSR. IA spent some energy on Maginot line, 2 of its armored units where then weakened and destroyed while still in Benelux. I think the IA should concentrate its firepower. For instance german IA can be diverted by the french fleet : german planes attack the fleet while their firepower would be quite usefull on the battlefield (like historically, germans combined armored & air attack). I thing priority for IA is to capture production points => capture capitals => concentrate firepower on enemy units in strategic positions (and not on expensive units like ships)
  14. I agree, V1.06 is a great improvement ! especially for its IA which I believe is much more difficult to beat ... I played the 2 sides and won though with much more difficulties against the germans. My remarks : against the germans : germany failed to progress in the USSR, took only 1 city. I managed to delay the invasion by letting a UK unit in Brest (kept part of german army in France). I believe the IA still lacks concentration of firepower while attacking Also as a french I was disappointed to see the french fleet I a send to UK disappear after France surrendered... Last : 2 US units were stuck north west of Spain after they landed (no move possible through the mountains ...) against the Allieds : US invaded Spain and was kept there by puting 2 german units in Bordeaux. US should have invaded Vichy's France or landed in north africa or Italy Waiting for the next improvementS !
  15. Hello, I agree it is important to reproduce historical factors (but I remain a fanatic of IA performance for a game to be really enjoyable). I have a tec. pb however after uncompressing the file in the campaign directory, the scenario remains unvisible in the list. Blashy, you used SC2 V1.05, I have patch 1.04 loaded. can you help me ? Thanks
  16. I would like to open a new topic to help improve the IA. Here are a few comments to begin with : 1) When playing against the germans, they did not even manage to enter France and were defeated before the US entered war (great isn'it ?). A pb I notice with the IA was that it fails to focus its attacks. For instance : it left strong armored units behind the front line, was not concentrating its fire power on a single unit, nor on the weakest ones, the planes were also focusing on other targets such as my warships. I hope the next patch will improve the IA !!! 2) units under IA management are not focused enough on wining PM. I noticed a unit located next to an empty production center or mine and not attempting to capture it 3) maybe a solution could be to design a number of pre-written strategis for each side that the IA could use (like for chess games where much is done by storing openings for instance)
  17. Damned, once again I defeated the IA (USSR in 1944), now invading the UK, but surprise : simultaneous DDAY atempt from USA! One strange thing also, italians spent months in egypt fighting HQ in a city! I believe USSR should avoid any confrontation and as much as possible until the US enters war, possibly fleeing some cities to stretch german army
  18. Hello, I have played your mod which shows a more agressive IA which is great. I defeated the USSR with more difficulties in sept 1943, following a quick success against Benelux and France. My advice : when playing a defensive strategy, the IA often weakened its position. IA Units entrenched in cities or located in other places with defensive advantages, attacked my adjacent units, which resulted in their weakening. In this kind of situation, IA should avoid to attack, and wait until it has gathered a strenght of at least 3:1 in its favor !
