  1. I knew the Russians were short of washing machines and toilets, but I figured if they were stealing them at least it meant they had houses to put them in.
  2. Russian propagandist Vladimir Solovyov urges Russians not to fear death, claiming life is "highly overrated" (yahoo.com) Russian propagandist Vladimir Solovyov has called on Russians not to be afraid of death, saying that "life is highly overrated" and death is inevitable anyway. Source: Solovyov on his programme on Rossiya 1 [a Russian state-owned television channel – ed.] Quote: "Life is highly overrated. Why fear what is inevitable? Especially when we’re going to heaven. Death is the end of one earthly path and the beginning of another. But to fear it, and let it influence your decisions..." Details: The guests on the TV show supported Solovyov, saying that previously Russians had lived from day to day, but now they have an "intangible dream, a higher goal". He is almost right - Life in Russia is highly overrated.
  3. first two we already have. Added the second pair
  4. as propaganda it backfires if false. If true... well when they stop supporting the war then maybe russians won't have to deal with stuff like this. Then again when your child's life isn't worth a new smart phone....

  8. couldn't that be said for probably every war ever fought? There were indigenous people who fought alongside the US calvary. Every colonial army ever formed usually had a portion made up of the indigenous population. It is more a statement of humans than it is about any regional behavior in that part of the world.

  10. The one item that might throw a wrench in China's relationships to any former Russian territories is their treatment of the Uighur people. The "stan's" have every reason to be highly suspicious of and likely antagonistic. For the most part the present governments acquiesce for the money, however continued attacks by China on a Muslim minority could easily lead them to become the new great satan. China's treatment of these people has been extreme, even to the level of competing with Russian barbarity.
  11. Nah he's just trying his hand at coming up with a theme for the next CM title.
  12. Russian magnate Pavel Antov dies after window fall in India (yahoo.com) A Russian sausage magnate and politician who briefly criticised Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has died after falling from the third-floor window of a luxury hotel in India. Pavel Antov was a member of Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party and a multi-millionaire, having founded one of Russia’s largest sausage makers. He was reportedly on a trip to celebrate his upcoming 66th birthday when he was found lying in a pool of blood outside the Hotel Sai International in Rayagada, a district in the southern state of Odisha. An unnamed police official told India’s NDTV news outlet they suspected he took his own life after becoming depressed about the death of his friend who was found dead in the same hotel. Vladimir Bidenov was found lying unconscious in his room on the first floor of the hotel on Thursday surrounded by empty wine bottles. Mr Antov was chairman of the agriculture committee at the legislature in Russia’s Vladimir region and ranked the country’s highest-earning lawmaker by Russian Forbes, with a declared annual income of just under £130 million. He was the founder of Vladimir Standard, a major meat producer. In July he posted a story on his WhatsApp messaging app, criticising Russia’s missile attacks on Kyiv as “terrorism”. He was referring to reports of a girl that had been pulled out from rubble after her house had been shelled. Shortly afterwards, Mr Antov apologised for the post, claiming that the message had been posted by someone else. He said he was “a supporter of the president and my country’s patriot” and “shared the goals” of the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine. Alexei Idamkin, Russia’s consul-general in Calcutta, told the Tass news agency that there was no foul play in the lawmaker’s death. A senior police officer was quoted by NDTV as saying Antov was depressed “due to the death of his friend''.
  13. "Candidate" from Wagner Group Head and Commander of Russian army in Ukraine heads western troops of Russia (yahoo.com) Evgeniy Nikiforov, a candidate from the axis of Surovikin-Prigozhin [commander of the Russian army in Ukraine and head of Wagner Group – ed.], became the commander of the troops of the Western Military District of the Russian Federation instead of Sergei Kuzovlev from the axis of Shoigu-Gerasimov [Russian Defence Minister and his First Deputy, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation – ed.]. Source: Defence Intelligence of Ukraine on Telegram Details: Defence Intelligence states that this is another rotation in the high command of the Russian Federation. Kuzovlev managed to stay in this position for only about a month. Prior to this appointment, Nikiforov held the position of Chief of Staff: First Deputy Commander of the Eastern Military District. Intelligence sources know that General Nikiforov is currently at the command post of the West troop grouping in the city of Boguchar, Voronezh Oblast. Quote: "The formal reason for Kuzovlev's dismissal was the failure of preparations for the offensive on the Lyman front. However, in fact, this is a manifestation of an internal political struggle in the top leadership of the Russian Federation: a person from the Shoigu-Gerasimov axis is being replaced by a candidate from the Surovikin-Prigozhin axis."

  20. Just a heads up to folks. We had better stay within forum rules and on topic. The Eagles are losing to Dallas. It is possible Elvis will drown himself to an oblivion state but I wouldn't count on it.
  21. When I was working with my old employer, we'd do our yearly budget in June/July. It started slipping. Talked to my old teammate yesterday. Their budget this year is still not in. Seems it isn't just a gov't issue. As to the US budget, that is because it is such a political football and the only thing that gets them to even get it done is the important folks know that a default would be disastrous for the country. As to calling Tucker a RINO... well I am not so sure of that. Citing Reagan as representative of GOP politics doesn't seem relevant anymore. You are talking 40 years ago. Enough though. Zelensky speaking before a joint session with multiple standing ovations from both sides of the aisle says what needs to be said for US commitment. The WP article I cited before has an interesting review of the weapons the US has supplied, why and when. another tidbit from that article.
  22. That is specifically television viewership. Not sure how many folks actually watch that much TV. I am a big fan of the Daily Show yet I rarely watch on TV. I usually take in bite size stuff across youtube.
  23. I suspect this is a bit more than it seems. Clearly the west has a lot to learn from the UA. but this point goes back to some references as to training the 82nd was doing with XIII corps. There appears to be some things going on with Palantir that may reflect a different US war fighting capability than reflected in previous wars. Just a guess.
