  1. I like reading David Axe myself David Axe (forbes.com)
  2. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania all joined NATO 18 years ago and all share a border with Russia, yet somehow Ukraine even thinking of joining (despite being highly unlikely - I mean look how much back and forth is going on regarding Finland and Sweden) is somehow a huge threat to Russia. No one has suggested putting nukes in any of these countries versus putting nukes 90 miles off shore of the US. Your example is completely apples to oranges. with that I'll take Steve's advice below and go for a walk outside assuming I don't get hit with hail again. freakin weather
  3. so cause and effect is a challenge for you? Putin - NATO wants to dismantle Russia so I have to wage a war of aggression. NATO - Putin is ONCE AGAIN launching an unprovoked war of aggression, there has to be a way to resolve this permanently. You also may want to read more on Kosovo as it seems you have some challenges understanding their situation. I was fortunate enough to be reading about that from the Kosovo perspective at the time and met some folks from Kosovo while traveling. Here you go if this helps.
  4. A pastry chef? Damn never knew that. I LOVE history! On a different side of things, I read a history of Giap where they turned over their competition in the Vietnamese resistance to French agents in the French quarter of Shanghai. My company's office in Shanghai was across the street from where the CCCP was founded- it now houses a Starbucks.
  5. your rumor seems to have some legs. Russia Bars Its Own Shadow Army Rep in Explosive Public Feud (yahoo.com)
  6. Coke and gas plant catches fire after explosion in Russia’s Moscow Oblast – social media (yahoo.com) smoking is hazardous to your war effort.
  7. Russian media report assassination attempt on Russian oligarch Malofeev, who financed Russian militants (yahoo.com) interesting the video supposedly shows the guy planting the bomb outdoors, then they are removing the bomb in an underground garage. Who was the brave soul that moved the car and went through the effort to back in the parking spot?
  8. does this mean an adjustment to the ToE for BS so I don't see Russians firing off so many RPGs? and on that note US-sanctioned Russian ship loaded with military cargo enters Black Sea – media reports (yahoo.com) and another ToE adjustment item? Russia's elite tank unit was meant to get its most advanced armor. Instead it's fighting with obsolete Soviet tanks from the '60s, UK intel says. (yahoo.com)
  9. Did you know Angela Davis is a direct descendant of a passenger on the Mayflower? History is freakin awesome. Angela Davis 'Can't Believe' Ancestry Discovery About Mayflower Relative (today.com)
  10. for what it is worth you can go to comments sections in yahoo articles/reddit etc and find tons of responses from wingnuts. It doesn't really tell me much what the average person who isn't sitting around posting on social media all the time thinks. Also as an aside on this "cancel culture" thing. Understanding history is important. period. Whether it makes your guy look good or not, the details matter in understanding motivations and actions. It is also important to establish context. Growing up as a kid about all I knew of George Washington was that he cut down a cherry tree and then admitted his fault honestly. later I learned he had wooden teeth. I grew up in Phila, in easy driving distance of Valley Forge. Independence hall was a rail line ride away. As I got older and lived in the DC area I got to visit Mt Vernon a lot. (they used to make a great peanut soup). I also got to visit other places like Jefferson's. I slowly got to learn more about these folks, both the good and bad. These guys weren't saints. They also however established a nation founded on some really important principles even if they applied those principles unevenly. As a history buff I want to know the whole story. If that offends someone that wants to maintain some bogus unblemished view of them. Well too bad. All of us humans are flawed, we shouldn't be afraid to understand our flaws.
  11. and you get a nuke, and you get a nuke and you..
  12. yeah that didn't seem to work out all that well.
  13. Hell I don't think we even have a grasp of what happens if Putin just up and dies (other than complaints from Satan that there is no election process in hell and no, Putin can't run a campaign.)
  14. it isn't up to you. The war is in Ukraine. Russia launched an unprovoked war and has deliberately targeted civilians. The Ukrainians apparently don't consider attacking a non-military target as a normal act of war. Maybe you should take it up with them. By his own admission Russian military pilot who knowingly bombed Kharkiv civilian targets sentenced to 12 years (khpg.org) Whatever the US or anyone else has done prior, it is Ukraine's right to take legal action against this unprovoked assault.
  15. I think the problem in trying to assess what happens to the Russian state is the lack of info. We really don't know the power relationships and who might want to step up that has the backing to do so. Can Putin push more of a narrative that NATO was responsible? Does China have a vested interest in stabilizing the Russian regime? Is the Russian population simply too apathetic to feel that a Russian army withdrawal from Ukraine is more a relief than a cause for revolt?
  16. and this has to do with the current struggle to defend Ukraine how? This is a thread about Ukraine's fight to maintain its existence. Let's try to keep focus. Hard enough to start the morning 50+ posts behind and not yet having had coffee.
  17. I don't think communists have a lock on unfair elections. At the time they were deciding to not hold elections in Vietnam, the Montgomery bus boycott was just starting. There are plenty of examples even today where truly free and fair elections aren't fully the norm.
  18. not sure what your point is. Does/has the US done some fk'd up stuff? Yep, lots of it. Does that make it okay, nope. Waterboarding, deliberately targeting civilians, etc. In the course of our history, we've probably violated every international norm as has most everyone. There is however an effort to change that, for everyone. Progress is slow but it is there and with the advent of mass social media it is easier to show violations.
  19. message to Lukashenko? Shadow Group Linked to Russian Plane Explosion Is Coming to D.C. (yahoo.com)
  20. Nearly 10,000 Russian soldiers surrender via 'I want to live' hotline since its creation (yahoo.com) Nearly 10,000 Russian soldiers have willingly surrendered themselves to the Ukrainian army via the "I want to live" hotline, Ukraine's Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported. Launched in September 2022 by Ukraine's Main Directorate of Intelligence, the 24-hour hotline allows Russians to willingly surrender themselves or their units to the Ukrainian army. Russian military personnel are held in compliance with the Geneva Conventions. In addition to the hotline, there is also a chatbot and a website in Russian run by Ukraine's Defense Ministry with information about the program.
  21. another sure sign that everything is going to plan and all is well Putin amends law to ensure state defence orders are properly met (yahoo.com)
  22. More to the point, they could have a 90% failure rate and still fk things up royally.
  23. Court sentences Russian pilot to 12 years in prison for dropping bombs on Kharkiv TV tower (yahoo.com) now broadcast that on hacked Russian TV and call his family to let them know visiting hours etc
  24. yeah it is time to stop worrying about boiling the frog and just serve up some frog's legs. Hopefully when the UA says soon they aren't using it in the same vein as you do. oh fk did I just get booted off the beta list?
