  1. Well the healthbars seem to be resigned to the same location as they are in ToW ie. on the soldier info. screens. I didn't see any healthbars floating above the troops in the screenies, just the troop type icons, which T0W also has.
  2. Wow, these forums sure are twitchy over the last month, must be demo fever
  3. I'm easy if you're easy Hoffy Err, no, wait, that could be taken the wrong way  Thanks for the explanation Jussi. Didn't mean to upset you guys. I think we are on the same level really, you just over-reacted a little to my comments. Understandable if the dynamics of the forums have really been changing as dramatically as you say. Not everyone new is a ninja musician though ( great phrase) [ September 28, 2006, 12:22 PM: Message edited by: Tankbuster ]
  4. Hoffy old chap, I haven't played any of those games you mentioned so you are way off track with the stupid remarks. The only FPS I have ever played is Red Orchestra and it is OK, but certainly doesn't r0xx0r5 !!1!111 (whatever that means). I don't claim to be anything other than average at strategy games, unlike the other elitist idiots who have chimed in here. Amazing how mature people who should know better are the ones acting like the FPS kiddie jerks on here. Quite odd really
  5. It certainly looks full of content, so much so that it will probably be a clickfest running through all those menus and tabs. I am just not a fan of turn based strategy and much prefer to think about strategies on the fly in real time. Of course us real-timers can still resort to the Pause button if it all gets out of control
  6. Actually I am more of a Strategy person, i'm probably as ancient, if not older, than you guys, oh and I still think it looks plug ugly and enjoyed the cookie, thanks
  7. Looks old fashioned and clunky compared to modern strat games. You might as well play a board game rather than something which looks that bad.
  8. Of course you do, and you don't need to cheat either, because Tripwire have already done the cheating for you. </font>
  9. Kecks - I think you need a humour upgrade! I was just kiddin with folks OK, didn't you see the smiley at the end of the post I am perfectly happy playing multiplayer, I play as a Russian tanker in Red Orchestra most nights I get the chance.
  10. NAY! - Cheaters, campers, bad losers and all manner of degenerate youth play multiplayer, stay away from the dark side brothers
  11. Pad, I don't think you read or digested anything I said. I won't read the COH forums because I am not interested in any RTS game that uses the tired old cliche of resource gathering and base building. Personally I prefer tactical gameplay. The bottom line here is I enjoyed FoW and don't really give a stuff whether anyone else likes it or not. Theatre of War looks really promising to me. From reading the AAR's and looking at the screenies I reckon this could be the WWII tactical RTS we have been hoping all these other games would be.
  12. Pad, I am on the FoW forums, been there since the start. I am playing the same version of FoW that everyone else who has finished a campaign is playing Tactical level is very difficult, it is not broken, but I would agree that the overwhelming odds your squad has to face does make it seem unbalanced. I have completed all the training missions and so have a lot of other people, so they are clearly not broken. Part of the problem with the training missions is that the objectives are not explained very well, plus there are a lot of people who never read the manual and consequently wonder what the hell they are supposed to do when a particular action is required
  13. Yup, it is a tank scrapyard in those pics Totally unrealistic, like all games, but a hell of a lot of fun! To be fair to the game those screens are not a depiction of how that actual mission ended. The real ending looked a lot more realistic, but at the end of each successfully completed mission you get the option to "Continue" the gameplay on that map if you wish. What that means is that in this case the tanks of both sides kept spawning beyond the real ending and you end up with this huge pile of tanks blasting each other and debris everywhere. 14. Having just finished the FoW Russian and German campaigns I can say that the game is very playable and certainly not broken out of the box. The huge scale of the battles, the sumptuous graphics, interesting direct control method and variety of scenarios all made it extremely fun to play. It is not easy even on the "Arcade" level (most veteran players find the "Tactical" level near impossible) and while the missions are scripted and rely on triggers to advance there is plenty of scope for variety in the way that you complete each mission. Some screens from the Russian campaign follow, click all thumbnails to enlarge to 1024x768.
  15. Its been months since we heard anything about the addon. There is tumbleweed blowing through these forums and people are passing out from information starvation. Are they working on it? Nearly finished ? Can they say which will be the new driveable tank yet ?(nothing less than the Leopard will be acceptable by the way!! ) Come on, we need some info. Or have they scrapped the addon in favour of developing the new game ?
  16. Cannot read Russian - what does it say Schmeisser ? Are you sure its not just the Russian version of the original game. If not how come there is no English version of these "additional missions" ??
  17. And the driver view is plug ugly too - another reason not to spend much time in there. The texture around the view slit is terrible and really needs to be re-done soon. The driving controls and view in T-72 are far superior imho.
  18. Yes, you can drive the crewable tanks. Control can be via mouse/keys or joystick. Most people don't bother however as gunner and commander positions are a lot more fun. The feeling of being within, and driving in, a tank is way more immersive than T-72 mainly due to the excellent turret views, 3d interiors and amazing sounds. I am quickly getting used to it now and T-72's external view only system seems quite primitive in comparison. M1A1, Leo2 and Bradley have the 3d interiors, possibly others too, but I haven't tried them yet. Other 3d interiors will be added when countries with those tanks (eg. T-72) decide to buy into the simulator to train their crews, thus paying for the 3d interiors to be created and supplying the necessary access to information. So far the UK has not bought into the simulator so no Challenger unfortunately but the T-72 will definatley be in the sim eventually.
  19. No! but we are hoping that the mythical addon driveable tank is the Leopard. When are we going to get some firm news on the addon ?? Its been ages since we got an update on this !!
  20. I've ordered it despite the apparent lack of playable Russian and UK tanks and the bias to western vehicles. I consider the high price worth it as long as the investment is repaid with free addons and support. There are about 25 single missions as well as tutorial missions and the missions editor is apparently quite easy to use. It shouldn't be long before additional mission content is added by the community. If you watch some of the videos of the "gameplay" I am sure you will agree that it looks pretty amazing to use even at this early stage.
  21. Via the campaign if I choose it from the list of previously played missions. Its not a big problem as I can happily play all of the missions after mission 4. When I have finally completed all the missions I may just do the re-install so that it becomes available again.
  22. Also, Green is for a non-penetrating round.
  23. Indeed - but both require you to read them first, which most people don't, and then they post multiple questions like this on the forum when they could sort it out for themselves. Just one of my pet hates about game forums.
  24. Hi I was trying to replay a failed mission (mission 4) when this error came up and I am sent back to the desktop. First time I have had an error with this game since I bought it last year and nothing has changed in my PC hardware over that time. I am on the 1.3 patch. The error message also tells me to re-install the game and delete all files in the Levels folder, which seems a bit drastic to me! I can play the next campaign mission in the sequence, and all subsequent missions, with no problems, but every time I go back to mission 4 I get the same error. Any ideas ?
