  1. Type98, can the user who plays the game successfully do this: </font><blockquote>code:</font><hr /><pre style="font-size:x-small; font-family: monospace;">cd /opt/dropteam/DropTeam/data echo hello > hello.txt cat hello.txt</pre>
  2. Yes, there seems to be a widespread concensus here. They're not hard to control; they are hard to *learn* to control. You must go and study as a Hover Apprentice to Mace for a few days. He will show you the Way of the Shao Lin Hurricane. Problems of controlling momentum with only air resistance to stop you is one of the prices you pay for the benefits of hovering's high mobility. You don't get something for nothing. In a world where a hovercraft is just as easy to use as a wheeled chassis, but with other added benefits to boot, there wouldn't be any more wheeled vehicles... That is a really great idea. Definitely now on our list! That should have always been there. Yes, if your system specs don't allow you to use high terrain quality then you will see some of this kind of thing. In that case, you need to zoom in to verify what you're seeing. It does not, of course, affect actual LOS or anything else on the simulation side. 3 shots to kill it - hmmm - but I'll bet the very first one completely immobilized him. Wacking a target until it is literally flaming is not always worthwhile. We'll talk more about these effects in a few days when we're finishing collecting stats on ALL of the penetrations and their effects in ALL of the games so far. You can tell bots where (and what) to drop right now. Select his name in the team list on the left then hit the "Drop" button at the lower left of the tac display. You can do this for human players, too, which will give them a waypoint telling them what and where to drop. Hopefully if you're the commander they will listen to you (if not, you can Vote to Kick on that disobedient dog). Very nice, and surprisingly easy to add... Yes, MadMatt has already instructed us to improve the server list in various such ways or suffer his wrath. I see this as a very important feature, but also a very expensive one. It's going to have to wait a while. Actually, their failure to extract right now is a bug that Stan has already fixed. It's in the next update. This is a popular request, was nearly added to begin with (we've always liked it), and is now on our list. That's highly dependent on the scenario and the teams. In low gravity, thin air, and/or very rough terrain, the Hurricane can quickly become useless. It's very limited in the inventory, even in those places where it's useful. And in a 1-to-1 fight, I will take a Thor over a Hurricane 100% of the time. The Thor can only lose that fight through incompetence. There's another thread on this that explains how the scoring system balances the game. I'm sure the scoring will need to be tuned over time, though. Yes, an earlier thread presented some of our current ideas on this. The bottom line is that you're right; this will help. Just happened to me today. Fixing... The skill level of the bots is set per-server. I saw some of the non-TBG servers out there with very high bot skill levels. On the TBG servers, the bots do shoot down dropships reasonably well, but not as well as veteran players do (you can hardly land within LOS of many people, which is as it should be). If you're volunteering to record a set, then I'll email you detailed instructions! These are excellent thoughts, all. Please continue to post your ideas. We're recording them all in flyspray even though I haven't responded to every single one here.
  3. Abidubi, I think I've finally met someone who drinks as much espresso as I do. That's pretty much exactly how I said it to my wife a few months ago. One of our worst fears about DropTeam is that potential players will fire it up and conclude "so all you do is drive around shoot stuff" when in fact there is so much more than that beneath the surface. A tutorial would definitely be a good thing. Everyone in the private beta said so, but I was the pig headed one who said, "it's supposed to be challenging and it's so flexible the way it works now and it's so rewarding once you get good at it... blah blah" Well, I'm not feeling so pig-headed anymore. We need to simplify the flight controls. There is an option called "Collision Damage" which is currently turned off on all of our servers. When it is turned on, things like falling hurt. The reason it is turned off is because it still needs to be cleaned up a bit more (it is too sensitive right now, so sometimes you take damage just from dropping from a dropship, etc.) Well maybe you think so but as I peruse this forum no one else seems to agree... You can literally play AC/DC by dropping your own music files into the sound/music folder. The game will stream them for you as you play (on a random shuffle). See the manual for details. I like almost all of those idea. I've put them on our flyspray list. Yep; added to flyspray. Come on, Abi. You can drop $20.00 on a real mouse for adults can't you? Friendly players can (and should) place a waypoint for you and say "Abi, hit the waypoint!" No easier way in the world to target fire. The only time you gain detection of any enemy units that other people on your team see is when you have a command track on the ground. If you are not in a command track, then you do NOT see what your teammates see. In that case, you have to actually *talk* to each other and/or use waypoints to indicate the enemy's position. I enjoyed your post very much, Abi. Please shout as you have more good ideas!
  4. Great! Kinda frightening, but great! Look forward to getting shot at by you soon...
  5. HE is mostly useful against buildings (and of course the upcoming infantry). It can be effective against components such as tires but you're better off using HEAT rather than trying to target specific parts of a target with HE. HEAT will kill a tire just fine and in case you hit the chassis instead you're still more likely to do some good...
  6. LtCol West, do you have the latest Catalyst drivers from ATI installed? If so, email me your Dropteam.log (from the \bin directory) and I'll look for the problem. Thanks!
  7. Now that we've all had a little time to learn how to flip our vehicles over, we would love to hear some of your overall impressions of the game so far. Aside from technical issues, what's fun and what's not? With respect to gameplay and useability, what are the main things you would like to see changed and, just as importantly, what are the things we should NOT change as we go forward? We'll probably need to revisit this topic again once the initial "learning" stage has passed and more competent players are online (it's a little hard to have a truly tactical match out there with everyone learning the basics right now), but we would still love your feedback even at this early stage. I would also like to say THANK YOU to everyone for all of the help identifying and fixing issues so far!
  8. I think I've found the problem, but I need some of your crash details to prove it. When any of you get this crash again, please hit the "Report..." button on the standard Crash Report dialog and paste all of those details here or email them to me. Thanks!
  9. Hi, mitsoko. Can you try it again with a username and password that you don't "care" about and if it crashes again, email the username and password that you tried to me, along with the file Dropteam.log (should be in your \bin subdirectory). Thanks!
  10. The default keys for switching ammo types are + and - on your top number row. Youc an remap them in the controls tab if you like. Yes, infantry are on the way.
  11. giminar, the fix is already complete and we're testing it now. Expect an update tonight or tomorrow.
  12. Typhon, the Hurricane's probably trying to repel off of the building's wall, so it's pushing to the right in your screenshot, but is wedged into the ground on its right side. In a case like this, you can hold the X key (brakes) to let the Hurricane "settle" then release X to hover again - will probably "jerk" you free.
  13. Also, had any of you tried to customize the controls before the crashing started?
  14. As much as I wish we could just blame your card, I don't think we can since your Catalyst drivers are up to date and others are experiencing a similar problem. Please email your Dropteam.log to support@tbgsoftware.com AFTER it crashes again. Thanks!
  15. OK, this bug is now fixed and will be available in the next update.
  16. There might be others simultaneously joining (between your refresh and your join), but OTOH it might indeed be a bug. I'll try to reproduce it.
  17. Thanks for isolating that, Apostrophe (period) Dregius, is your desktop in 16-bit color?
  18. When you find a server that makes you crash, try turning off the "Terrain VBO" option and then joining that server again. Let's see if that makes the crash go away. If so, this will point me toward the actual problem. Bnej, are you also on a Radeon 9000?
  19. What are your system specs, Mr. Jackson? Grabbing your error report now...
  20. I understand what you mean. Fixing it now... (and thanks again!)
  21. Ha! Kind of like this, eh? As you can see, this used to "work" without crashing. Thanks for identifying the crash - we'll get on it right away.
  22. The account is not the same as what you're using here in this forum. Can you elaborate on what exactly happened when you tried to create an account in DropTeam? At what point in the process of creating an account did it crash? Did you send the error report when it crashed?
  23. Omega. *sigh*. Well, I'll play anyway... So I would guess that turning HDR off makes it run nicely again, right? Let's start with that, since given your machine specs it is probably the only option causing you trouble. If you can verify that turning HDR off gets you running fast again, then we can proceed to the next step. Very nice laptop, BTW!
  24. Not planned at this time. We generally focus on things that benefit all 3 platforms.
  25. Yes, uncheck the "Fullscreen" checkbox on the settings tab.
