Sergei, yes thanks that's what I wanted to know.
Moon, thanks for the info, but then Sergei's suggestion comes into play, how's this with cover then? Does the tile have the same cover values also at the edges in relation to a more central position on the tile or when you're deeper into the tile you got better cover?
-
I know, but i don't think you understand my point; if the manual says that the terrain is treated as tiles which means that even if you're not behind a tree but still on the 'scattered trees' tile the same cover statistics count.
Howcome the trees (the 3D models) itself do function as 'LOS breaking' objects then?
-
Oops.. its not woods, sorry, the LOS does get obstructed there. Scattered trees I mean.
-
Ok here's the situation;
A Panzer IVG is sitting behind a patch of EDIT scattered trees.
The manual states that the terrain is treated as tiles, so basically the trees are there, but do not reflect actual positions as the math is abstracted.
Now I am confused because when you use the LOS tool, it does indicate that you cannot see through trees (logically enough), but when you let the tank see through the trees the LOS does not get obstructed.
Does this mean that the tank can actually see through the woods?

My PBEM partner had some problems with figuring out PBEM Helper and as I've heard others complaining about the same issues I've made a short primer on how to setup and use PBEM Helper with CMBB as reference, though the procedure is exactly the same for CMBO and CMAK.
It's completely illustrated with screenshots and because its a primer, it just focusses on how to setup Helper, how to run the turns, how to send and receive; e.g. the mainstream uses of the program without all the technical bull.
It'll get you up and running easily and quickly.
Currently I only have a Word version, so if anyone is interested in converting it to a PDF file drop me a note.
It's ready for the open community so if you want to receive the guide, please contact me, ASAP!

Great initiative anyway!

Are there plans for a downloadable version too? For those times you're not connected to the net, but still want to check out the various stats?
-
Ok, thanks. At least now I know where to take a look!

Now that's what I call a helpful post, I am sure you could help Red Dog, UAV Guy.
Red Dog, you asked for playtesters. I am willing to help out in that section if you need it.

RobO, again congrats on a continued job well done! I am reading through all the extensive homework your provided us with (a.k.a. the rules) and I am very eager to start my first battle.
On problem however; when I try to press the Die-macro buttons in Word, it gives me an error telling me that either the macro is not found or due to security reasons it could not be activated. When I press help it tells me that I probably choose not to activate the macro when I opened the document, but I never got a question asking me!
Do you know what's wrong?

Don't ever insult me again Painfbat!
You are correct however on how to spell it. Though as names can be written anyway one wishes it's not with double IJ's, but with double Y's.
And say; it does look better, right?
So let's keep it an aestethic (spelling?) issue.

There have been plenty of posts about this, in fact quite recently. If you search the forum you will likely find what you're after.
A brief listing of what I think should be used above all:
-Tarkus' Dark Steel Interface
-Realsmoke
-Juju's Fire and Explosions
-Juju's small arms mod (look at CMMODS under Mudslut project its otherwise a tricky one to find)
-The various buildings, shacks, trenches, barbed wire and trees (among others by Juju)
-Hi-res skies
-Of course all winterized verhicles, but getting those on your harddisk again may take some time. I am still busy gathering them
In any case, visit cmmods.com
Regards

Done, thanks for dropping this on the boards. My sympathy goes out to the family and of course Matthew.

I can't seem to find a straight answer to this: Do winter mods actually replace the existing schemes for units, so that when you're playing on a non-snow map you have white units wandering about or are winter mods recognised by the game as seperate schemes?
-
Yeah, but on Actual sized units the LOS must be in contrast with the unit sizes anyhow, so it only gets independent if you use unit sized above realistic as far as I understand.

If you pronounce it "Ice-K-Nine" you're close.
If you mastered that, try changing the "-K-" into Co and you'll have it right.
So, "Ice-Co-Nine" it is.

BTW: If you guys ever see another IJskonijn or Yskonyn on the web, kill it!
I am the ONLY legal, rightful owner of the name and been using it since 1990 or so.

Thanks guys, but GreenAsJade, from your second post I understand that the LOS as employed in the game is awkward; if you lost your ATG to the Tank this means the tank could see your ATG before it could see the tank. That sounds quite strange if the tank is up the hill intially out of sight. The tank structure is way higher than a ATG so he should see the tank first, correct?
-
Nice! I'd like to play this one, but havent got CMAK installed yet...
-
I wonder if the LOS tool actually takes unit height innto account as I've seen infantry peeking above a slope and still not able to spot the enemy. It sometime seems as if the LOS is calculated from the units base instead of taking 'eye-height' into account.
Anyone care to comment?

Sounds like I've got something so checkout in my free (read: non-MP) time!
Thanks Robert!

Why remove it at all? People will always be able to download your work, that's nice isn't it?

The website has instructions on how to patch a CDV version, though I am not completely sure what you mean exactly.
Wind/Temperature effects

I am quite sure winds are not modelled in the game, certainly not the way you describe.
There are rumours of an improved weather engine in the new CM game, but don't count on advanced stuff like sound contacts fading due to hard winds...
Spotting however in bad weather IS modelled. Especially damp weather, fog and smoke, as it logically would.
