  1. Like dieseltaylor said, you can get more than enough western front mods for CMAK.

I've been right in your shoes some months ago and decided to buy CMBB, CMAK and both strategy guides of which I never had a bad feeling including this day.

CMAK hasn't been fired on my pc yet (except from the demo while I was deciding what to buy) and it still safely tucked away in its sleeve, because I am so busy playing CMBB.... and modding it! :)

You can actually have data worth three or more games for CMBB alone once you get into modding the titles (see the forum for extensive info).

As for the online play, there are many active online players for either CMBB and CMAK (CMBO is slowly fading, so I've been told). You could join a club like Band of Brothers or join a tournament.

If you like the demo's then it's true what people say: you'll get blown away by the full versions. I was also! :D Go for it.

  2. Ah well, this IS the list smile.gif

The only one being obsolete is AF_SOV_CREW under AstroCat, because the same files are modded again in a newer mod under AndrewTF.

All other uniform mods listed under AstroCat and AndrewTF complement eachother.

Not completely true though, now that I think of it, when I tried to install the mods yesterday I found two (IIRC) sets which had partly the same files. It was a Luftwaffe set and a Heer set if I am correct, but checking the files I couldn't see any difference in both sets, maybe Andrew could comment on this?

Anyway it seems quite safe to first install the 'AstroCat mods', then install the 'AndrewTF mods' to get a nice complete uniform 'total conversion'.

  3. Nice they look cool, Mikey. I am a fan of your work anyway, so I am sure to check out your mods once I get on with CMAK. Currently I am quite busy with CMBB, modding CMBB and finally winning a scenario in CMBB... :D

So that's several times CMBB, people, Combat Mission Barbarossa to Berlin... see? No need to talk about the other Combat Mission games and their mods as I was not refering to those. I am looking for mods for CMBB, C.M.B.B. :D

This happens every time! Once you ask for info about a mod for Combat Mission Barbarossa to Berlin, people start to talk about mods for Combat Mission Afrika Korps and Combat Mission Beyond Overlord... :D What's so difficult?

Why are you reverting to technical blabla, Philippe? Yes indeed I was refering to the Saving Private Ivan mods, but no need to tell me your problems, go to a shrink for that, please :D

Uploading is slower than downloa... sjeesh!

    ;):D

To get back on subject: I am currently quite satisfied with a little bit of many mods, I use fire and explosions made by Eichenbaum, parts of the winter landscape made by Juju and Tanks a Lot (yeah, yeah it's old... but nice tongue.gif ), Tanks a Lot's trees augmented by Strontium Dogs hires trees, also his Ice water.

Of course MikeyD's dirtwinter roads to complete the whole set along with Undaunted's skies.

(Not to talk about Juju's and Tanks a Lot's buildings, bridges, shacks, walls, fences, etc augmented by Johnnymo's building sets 1 and 2)

Nice looking overall (winter) terrain, I'd say.

smile.gif Any additions or changes you guys suggest?

  4. ok thanks. I will browse the contents of each mod which is in Astro's AND in Andrew's folder and compare.

I will post a listing here once I am done for future reference.

-AstroCat's AF_SOV_CREW is obsolete. There's a new version under AndrewTF (slightly different filename).

The rest however seems to be augmenting eachother.

Where, for example 9210, 9212 is included (and thus 9211 missing, 9211 is included in the other pack, so I guess combining all will make complete sets.

  5. Ah now I see what you mean. Sort of MIp map procedure, but no that's not what I mean, sorry for being unclear.

I am talking about the previews included in the ZIP files of the mod. The tiles shown there are more blurry and less detailed than the original CMBB ones (hope I don't get flamed for this, I am not trying to insult people, its just a technical question).

Take, for example, DD's hires terrain (non snow).

  6. Ow... that means I just f'ed up my CMBB...

I looked at the upload date at CMMODS.

I now have overwritten all Andrew's mods with AtroCat's uploaded ones... So chances are huge older versions have overwritten new ones.

Is it safe to first install all Astro's uploads and then install Andrew's on top?

If not what would be a good idea to get Andrew's work sorted out so I only have the latest builds of every mod?

  7. While I am trying to gather a full infantry uniform conversion for CMBB I was pointed out that Andrew the Fox was certainly one of the modder's whose work to checkout.

I must say that I really like your work, Andrew (if you're still around here somewhere), but I also noticed that your handle on CMMODS AndrewTF lists Mods up to and including 2003, whereas your other nick AstroCat (its something you have to know obviously as I've been searching for days!) lists mods from 2003 onwards to 2004.

Are all your work combinable or is your 2004 work overuling to your 2003 work?

I could have sent a PM, but I do think others might also want to know this who are beginning to wander through the world of CMBB.

    Thanks.

P.S. Anyone else who knows this is, of course, free to answer also! smile.gif

  8. What the difference between 'Hi-Res' versions and 'Low-Res' versions?

Hi-Res suggests that it would be of better quality, but most of the Hi-res terrain I found is very blurry, while the 'Low-Res' versions seem to have more detail/texture to them.

For example look at the terrain mod made by Captain Wicky over at CMMODS.

Also, do you suggest using gridded terrain sets? I tend to see those as 'table-top board game'-additions to CMBB and completely destroy the ambiance. They are, however, efficient for quicky assessing terrain elevation.
