good point code 13. and as i say i have no experience with either. and my brother would rather have for general use an ak-47 as well. But i have been told by many of my friends in the army, that unlike movies even firing 3 round burst over 100 yards is a waste of time. its not just a matter of doctrine, the british army and i belive the us army would be much the same, tests were carried out and single aimed shots were found to be so much more effective. there were cases in ww2 where british infantry squads on there merit alone wiped out experienced german squads bcause they were firing, to often without aiming properly and were wasting 90% of there ammo. this type of firing isnt effective against trained soldiers. again the truth remains to be seen, im just talking form what ive been told. But even my brother who had a preference for the ak047 says its purely for reliabilty. not so much the maintenance at least he sayed he would not fancy his chances if he were stuck at 200 yards against someone with an sa-80 or m-16. My brother was only in the signals but he was a dman good shot.

just played a fierce quick battle with my brother!!!!!!!!!! it still rocks although the ai of controled units while better but still can be a bit dense is sometimes especialy bad in cmbo. I love the 95mm churchills in it though one knocked out 4 75mm atg and the other caused bout 10 inf casulties and got one puma and stug 3.

well to but in as i always do!...... i agree with abbot! Although i have no military experience, my brother and about 4 of my friends are or were in the british army. many with experience some are serving in iraq now or were and some were sent to eg my brother were sent to bosnia and kosovo. The western philosophy of cleaning your rifle is not a case of babying your rifle. A friend of mine who was in the para drop in iraq to take the oil fields, he got 30+ confirmed kills(not bragging its true). He says it takes 20 mins to clean the sa 80 and thats doing it slowly. plus he has used an sa 80 A2 a m16A2 and an ak 47. He said his least favourite was the ak 47. in fact all of my friends in the british army are happy with the sa 80 a2. (although im told previous versions especialy the original were terrible). there was also a documentry on the bbc i believe called weapons of war, they pitted in the m16 and ak - 47 the proffesional soldiers who fired the weapon found the m 16 to be notibly more accurate over 200m. i am a poltics student and in one lesson we were looking over documents(are publicly availble as we were reading print outs in a newspaper, the telegraph i believe). and the sa-A2 was said to have jammed less than the m-16A2. although there was not a huge difference. dont know the stats though. Not sure about how long the M-16 takes to clean but your point Bigduke6 about cleaning the rifle is just a bit well off. Because british soldiers with western rifles in iraq didnt have to obbsevily clean there rifles. and belive me you could tell them there not self respecting soldiers because they do but i dont think youd like there responce much.

but be careful of the german reinforcements, they just appear.

back to the origianl post it seems, hapless general you can either a, use your hull down grants to cover your other tanks. or B flank round on the left with the grants and crusaders on the right(i did a little better this time but they still are pants) and use the struarts down the middle but use cover very well and bring them to bear once german tanks are engaged.

yes there was thats a fair point. i admit i was being padantic. i dont realy kow how the gsme handlesa it. whether or not the upper hull can get hit.

i know. i said its okay for the game but its not actualy hull down. that was one complant of the british forces in north africa, over the grant. I was just being a little padantic.

fair enough but then it must be a bug becasue the grants 75mm is in the hull. so if you hull doiwn and firing 75mm then there is something wrong. as far as game tactics go is fine, but as far as historic realism thats just wrong(not having a go but i would do the same, but in hull down my grants didnt fire 75mm).

the only problem though gpig is going hull down with grants meens the 75mm cant fire as it is in the hull. but that is good use of terrain if it were a 75mm or 6pdr armed tank that would of been brillinant so dont take it the wrong way. but the grants could atleast your reinforced ones might be better used out in the open especialy as the german guns werent that brilliant against it?(i remember mainly l24 75mm and l42 50mm)

well i wouldnt call myself a master, but i got a major victory on my first play of the full version. So my advice is advance forwards causiosly with your honeys and grants. The terrain should allow you to work your way round on the left side of the screen. This is important because you dont want to get into a ranged battle with then as the 37mm wont do much to a mark 4 much over 500m. when you have done this move the grants up again cleverly using what little cover there is preferably on the left flank and you should be able to create local superioritis within the map and mop up. this must be carefully done advance and retreat! as for the crusaders i got mine hopelessly destroyed very quickly so i dont know. and as gpig states using jeeps and whatever you have left to spy on the enmies positions is very good. this is what i did anyway so, i hope it helps but i will admit there may of been a little luck on my side it was an absolutly vicsious fight.

true but there were only something like 600 king tigers made in total and most were sent to russia. and unless im badly mistaken cromwells were only used in france during ww2.

and in reponce to dorosh it could also be what the british did in 1916 and finaly in 1918. and what the germans did in 1914 too. plus to a small degree what general pershings us troops did in 1918 too. and what the ai does to me every time i play cm wasted.

dont mean to but into the argument between andreas and athlete. but in the cambridge perspectives in history book i bought i believe it says that the so called atrocities perpetrated by the germans was nothing more than a vague pretext for an invasion.(no iraq war jokes please or i will have to hit you with a licence plate). Something along the lines of german soldiers dressed in polish uniforms posed a staged attack against a so called german radio station putting already dead german citizens bodies in the radio stations. fake histories were created for these bodies, an thus a pretext for war was created. But this was a matter of weeks before the invasion. the book was called hitler chamberlain and appeasement. Although it may also be in chamberlain and the lost peace.

athlete, you do realise britain actualy had an agreement with poland? to protect it from Germany. unlike what many people think this was a real agreement made on more than one occasion. plus Germany had agressivly taken over the non-sudetan checkoslovakia. im sorry i missed the rest of that thread but how exactly was it unjustified? as for blitzkrieg? it is a devicive word but it has a basis on the grounds that german strategy was based around mobility and quick decsive victories by making the most of penetrations? by saying that the word has many meanings it is therefore meaingless is a little strange. Many people describe montgomery as caustious and patton as an egotist. These words have many meanings and are based on much less evidence. Does that mean that they are meaninless descriptions too? infact doesnt that mean that all human comunication is therefore meaningless?????? Are you all intitionists?

well okay that is a point.but beeing padantic britain and france did declare war on germany. britain on 11am 3rd september 1939 and the french at 12. Although germany did preempt it by the actions over austria checkoslovakia(as it was then) and poland. and not all nazi's were evil. that is a little bit of a stereotype.
