  1. RepsolCBR,

    You're absolutely right.

There was this scenario designer back in CMBB, AL was his name, who made maybe 20-30 tiny, enjoyable vs AI scenarios. Under-hour battles that were tough, VERY re-playable. I sometimes replayed one scenario 6-10 times.

Well, you've recruited me. I'm going to do just as you suggested, find a cool QB map and tweak to give a neat little vs AI tactical challenge. What's more, It's going to be ready by Friday night. I made my first scenario a couple of weeks ago, and have been dragging my ass on the second. Three days is my deadline.

Will post here again when it's up. :D

Michael C Clarke with 12 posts from CMBB, I smell Alter-Ego here. I think we are in for some rather experienced scenario creation. Bring it all anyways we could use them.

  2. Wow, have you actually been able to play most/all scenario's that were shipped with the game? I know, I don't have a lot of time and am playing some PBEM's. But so far I've only tried ~5 scenario's from CMFI and 2 from GL, apart from 2 x 2 campaign missions. Not even speaking of CMBN / CW, I have far too many available scenario's available to play.............

As a real time player I've bashed through 2 campaigns and every scenario in Gustav Line. Most scenarios are just over an hour anyways. I assume you must be a wego player? Maybe its just me but I must say Gustav has the most sophisticated scenarios of the series I have played. I really enjoyed all of them.

  3. I just played as allied and scored a tactical victory. Good little scenario where 2 companies bump into each other. without giving too much away, its knowing how to shift your forces and concentrate your firepower once you get a grasp on what Gerry has. Avoid attrition in this one. I did manage to keep the MG42 HMG's pinned and picked off. Sure the German squad LMG's gave me grief as well. But my little knee mortar dets were showing high casualty inflicted, like in the teens for each one. Maybe that's the CW counter. Don't waste the little mortar dets.

Spoiler Alert....if you haven't played as allied don't read the AAR further

I believe the Germans seem to have a firepower advantage with off map arty and the MG 42. So allied tactics have to be fluid to win rather than just lining up behind a wall and exchanging gunfire.

Once I saw the German AI was becoming static I started forming a platoon to flank. And there is plenty of room to do a hooking flank on the left. Its not so much that the Axis reached their objectives and stopped. I did manage to get them pinned once they crested over the hill. And they did divide into 2 forces one in each orchard on each side of the road/path.

When the clock ran out I had the ground objectives but was mediocre for unit objectives and parameters. Although I decimated the enemy in the left orchard down the hill, my right flank was checked by a solid platoon of pioneers who inflicted numerous casualties on me, and were only showing a nervous condition. As long as they stood fast I would have been creamed trying to move in on them next. Lucky my time ran out.

  4. The watermelon thing. is hilarious

AFAIK he was never promoted beyond the rank of Gefreiter (=Corporal? I thought Gefreiter = PFC) because his superiors thought he was not suited for a leadeship position. They were kinda right, werent they...

There are a lot of references to him being a corporal, referred to scornfully as the Austrian Corporal by Heer Generals. Anyways kinda goes with my rotten führer joke, which I just made up, I know its a groaner.

  5. I don't want to spin doctor this too much. But based on the literal interpretation of what's stated above, and WYSIWYG, the road wheels and return rollers are small on a MkIV, the damage in the screen cap is hull penetration. The projectile landed between the wheels and penetrated the transmission driveshaft compartment. Looking at cutaways, there's a lot of dead space and solid gearing. Again its a spin but seems quite plausible for minimal damage. Would be curious to know about the anatomy of this hit.

  6. Played this as well a few times and found it a challenge as German but easier as UK, but not a push over. Anyways I think there is a little more going on. The range may be a pistol fight at first but quickly develops into a knife fight. But the terrain is very hull down on the UK side. Especially where the AI plants the tanks. Probably has something to do with it. On a side note, I actually caused a Sherman crew to bail when they were hit by a lobbing shot from a PZ IIIM.

  7. How long do you reckon it is going to take these guys to do this job? Also it looks like they are not under fire.

So how long, under combat conditions do you think it would take a crew to repair a damaged track? I'm curious.

Considering they didn't support the jack and are cranking into the ground, longer than it takes to play a game.
