  1. Maybe rhe next thing is the poor house. I just added up all of my CMx2 purchase costs, $562.00 including shipping. I do own them all but it builds up quickly. It's just a hobby, dear. Honest.

Bah that's not even a season's green fees. Which is why I don't golf, or surf. There are more expensive hobbies.

I say bring on CM:TTT as in Twilight 2020. Make the T-90's you have now more dented, rusted and battleworn, have the squadies in torn jeans and mixed military garb, the terrain arid and broken. We are good to go.

  2. About to buy Combat mission game and I'm torn between Red thunder and Fortress Italy, I was hoping for some input from you guys, what you like, dislike, pros and cons.

    thanks.

Yes... only IF you include Gustav line with it, then it is the best. Winter snow, or bright Summer seasons. Falschirmjaegers, recoilless rifles. Italians are interesting to play. Very bright, yet slightly arid terrain appearance. I found the scenarios very well done.

The era is light in handheld infantry AT weapons, that could be con if you like pz Fausts lets say. The Sherman rules at this time, but the mark 4 overtakes it at longer range.

  3. The fanbase for CC came pretty close to killing the game and to a certain extent they did. I played all 5 original combat missions. Great game, I was fan. When the re-releases started coming out I posted comments to the effect of hey where's the new engine?, Why can't I use a scroll wheel to change viewing altitudes. Because this WAS the same game I played on my Pentium 1 years back. Then came the chorus of "if it aint broke don't fix it, don't change it" reply from the fanbase. I was like OK, I'm moving on.

I saw this in other games too. Like in Jagged Alliance back in action. (Sorry for the Apple to Oranges topic) A really really good modern remake of the Single guy squad wargame. But the original fans just attacked the developer of JABIA every way they coul:, bad comments, spams, absolute insults to the poor moderators. Yep never would get a sequel there, so now we have nothing.

I digress. My points is the new CC engine was a long long time coming. Fortunately CM is more innovative where change is concerned.

  4. The Russians seem to lack squad weapon support, either as doctrine or in-game, cause those stalin record players suck. I have to micro the guys with them to get them to be aggressive, and, well they don't carry much ammo compared to their MG34 counter part jockeys. I think that's where the perceived weak Russian squad firepower may be coming from.

OTOH the smg squads, once they do get close, will tramp over a fixed position, but its only by terrain or shear numbers that allows them to get close to do that.

  5. Hey guys tell me if I'm the only one doing this cause it drives me. This is a habit from playing certain other games that may look a little like the cm series ;) I often forget to Right Click to release command of a unit before clicking on the next unit. Why? because clicking on another unit should automatically release the previous unit. Xept it don't. You get a new waypoint instead.

I would not want to see anything changed, because why should everybody else have to get used to a new release method for me. But it sure would be sweet to have a new option in customization setup menu to have release on next unit selection yes/no, or right click to release unit yes/no.

  6. I do wonder if after the novelty wears off anyone will notice the decals. I hope BF didn't sacrifice anything else useful for them.

I would think nothing was sacrificed because its all just a matter of time to implement, and battlefront doesn't seem tied to a deadline, my impression. As far as a novelty, I find I CSI the battlefield constantly now based on these decals, I am really appreciating how weak side armor is.

  7. Hetzers had a postwar life too. I believe the Swiss used them for a time.

Its a little known fact that after the ill fated Hamelburg raid, surviving US tank crewman claimed to have had a run in with a platoon of jagpanthers. After the war when all the pieces were put together it turned out to actually be a depleted company of 11 Hetzers rushed to the battle by rail... OK thats my Cliff Claven moment for the day.
