  1. Hi, I was just aquiring some extra ammo while setting up a new battle and was wondering what the difference was between the 7.92mm and 7.92mm AP ammo carried in the halftracks. Is the AP, just the Armor Piercing form of the standard 7.92 or are these two different rounds intended for seperate weapon systems? Will both type of rounds be used in rifles and HMG/LMGs if I aquire them for infantry squads?

  2. Hi All,

I am looking for two new PBEM opponents. I am interested in playing ANYTHING on either side, even huge maps with lots of forces. I have the patch.

Currently, I am able to send off about 2 turns per day. I will notify new opponents quickly if my availability changes.

    ! NOTE !

Before sending me a game file, please send me an Email, a "Google Talk" chat message or Skype message, if you want to match up and we can discuss game setup and ground rules. I get instant notification from my Droid phone and so will usually be able to answer your messages very quickly.

  3. I really like that idea Xian. Having AI-Only units could also serve the purpose of removing some micromanagement from a scenario by handling simple combat tasks such as holding a position or shoring up your flanks. It could also introduce the idea of "having to deal with other commanders" into scenarios. Company commanders don't get direct control over all battlefield forces in actual combat. There are many extra scenario design possibilities if we had AI-Only units.

  4. I agree with C3k on armor except I would rely on infantry in the scouting role instead of vehicles. Vehicles are very easy to knock out with a wide range of weapons and thus lose almost all combat value in one second of play. Independent scout teams and or split off scout teams are able to sneak around better and will retain some combat value even if they take a couple casualties. If you decide to purchase some non-Sherman vehicles I might grab some halftracks for extra ammo or HMG unit carriers. Make sure you have enough mortars and medium/heavy machine guns for the suppression role and for possible smoke screens.

  5. I play on Warrior difficulty and often dominate the AI and can't stop playing the game. Sometimes I'm chasing the dragon though because I play to get that half remembered thrill. When the thrill doesn't come then I play some more in hopes that I'll "get some" this time around. I feel a possible semi-burnout coming soon. Sometimes I compulsively open the game, poke around and suddenly discover that there is nothing new and interesting that I really want to do and shut it down. I think it's a sign that I just need to chill out and keep some low level PBEMs going and cut down on solo play.

Most of the time I find the solo Quick Battles 50% cool and exciting and 50% of a frustrating struggle with the AI. Some QBs turn out well and are really fun but others just feel like they were a waste of 2.5 hours of my day when you discover the AI has set up their forces is some stupid and totally illogical way or they try rushing you with 500 infantry and jeeps without any support or cover after you've painstakingly picked and deployed your forces.

I think I'm going to move over to more scenario design as well. I'm currently working on an 1800x1800 map and it's about 65% done. It's a nice mix of bocage, open country, wooded areas, village, river and swamp. Currently trying to refine it to get a beautiful and natural look.

  6. Ok, here is a possible solution for the "Black Screen Capture" bug if anyone else has this. Try using the Snipping Tool built into Windows. FYI, I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

"If you have a version of Vista other than Home Basic, you already have the Snipping Tool screen capture utility: Choose Start, All Programs, Accessories, Snipping Tool. If you don't see it there, it may not be activated. Go to Control Panel and open Program and Features (you may have to click Programs first). In the task pane on the left, click Turn Windows features on or off. If necessary, click Continue when prompted by User Account Control. Scroll through the list of features, check the box next to Tablet PC Optional Components, and click OK. Turning on these features gives you not only the Snipping Tool, but also the Tablet PC Input Panel, Windows Journal, and other stylus-related features."

  7. * Separate wind option in QB's - right now it's default to what weather you choose, it would be good if you could change it also, it could even change to the default when you choose a new weather setting.

Agreed, I hate it when you end up in a quick battle where the wind is howling like crazy the entire time. I don't mind it actually being windy in a game but the sound just gets really obnoxious after a while.

  8. Here are twelve, hopefully new changes I feel might improve the game. I tried to avoid listing any major unit additions and/or drastic game changes such as adding tank riding.

    1) Add some rifle and hand grenades to vehicle ammo stashes.

    2) Create a true solo Sniper unit with a base concealment bonus, not just a marksman. Make it rare and cost a lot to offset their general effectiveness.

    3) Add some canister shot to all applicable weapon platforms.

    4) Allow "on map" Priest SP guns to be called for indirect artillery fire if map range/LOF allows.

    5) Change the unit base for land mines from bearclaw to a more intuitive minefield coverage square.

    6) Add specific "damage states" to vehicles in scenario designer such as Main Gun Damaged, Radio Inoperable, Optics Damaged and so on.

    7) Show ammo bearer teams on the TOE unit roster and allow their removal. Sometimes these guys aren't even carrying extra ammo and are somewhat useless.

    8) Smoke artillery round damage to buildings needs to be toned down. I just saw a building destroyed by a few rounds of medium mortar WP smoke shells.

    9) Add occasional grenade bundles to German infantry squad loadouts where historically accurate.

    10) Add a "Force Adjustment" drop menu to the defender side for quick battles.

    11) Improve concealment bonus for hiding, non-moving, smaller AT guns. I've had small Pak50s spotted very quickly from far away even when hiding behind bocage.

    12) Get rid of the "under vehicle craters" created by large secondary explosions/ammo cooking off. This just doesn't seem realistic.

  9. I haven't seen anything really official on what the future holds for the CMx2 engine. I've heard people talking about "The Commonwealth Module" but only from non-Battlefront sources. Does anyone know what has been made public about future plans for CMx2?

It seems that development of the new CMx2 engine is much more labor intensive due to the much more advanced engine vs CMx1. I hope this doesn't mean all fronts (possibly ignoring Pacific) will not be done due to time/labor/money constraints brought about by the increased level of complexity.

Personally, once Western Europe is fully fleshed out, I would like to see the Eastern Front revisited if that is the only other possible major work by BF on this engine. CM:BB was my favorite of the CMx1 bunch.

What do you all think? If only one other theatre of operations after Western Europe was covered, which would you like it to be and why?

P.S. Battlefront - Please bring back Modest Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain" on the game intro page if you do another Eastern Front game, just loved that to death.

  10. I totally agree that there are many really annoying issues with the AI that need to be fixed but I've decided to relax and see what the patches and modules hold. I just don't think BF are lazing around laughing at your broken heart while raking in the money on their "known inoperable" game. Why would they want to create another CMx1 copy, they had to move forward into the modern game world. Moving foward equals loads of added complexity and massive unknowns. No modern 3D game is perfect on release, especially since BF doesn't have anywhere near Blizzard Entertainment-like resources. I think the hardcore data and simulation-type complexity is still there, it's just more under the hood and less obvious than in CMx1. Just chill, be thankful that CMx1 brought you so much happiness and move on if the game continues to suck for you.
