  1. Actually the basic M1 variant was retired from Active Army service in 1996. The only basic M1s left were a few based a Fort Knox that were used as training tanks for Guard and Reserve units. These are expected to be retired this year (2007) and a few might be upgraded to M1A1/M1A2 standards.

  2. I also am angered by the very obvious ommision of Space Lobsters from the game. I remember on such and such a date that Steve said that space lobsters are an essential part of a wargame. I dont think this game deserves to be called Combat Mission due to the way BF is handling the implementaion of Space Lobsters in CMx2 engine. I'm uninstalling the game and putting it on the shelf until BF can get their act together.

    :D

  3. [MikeyD] - If you look in some of the inventories of lower end Syrian ATGM teams, you will see one RPG-18 in there. It was talked about in another thread recently I think.

The manual states that RPG-18 effectiveness is low against ceramic armor. I wonder if the ceramic applique armor added to the Stryker for protection against 14.5mm rounds would help out alot concerning the RPG-18. I really want to test this out. I think I'm gonna create a scenario with one of those low end ATGM crews that carry a RPG-18 and see how they fare against the Stryker and other US vehicles.

  4. I dont care how lethal it is, I just want some Syrian infantry to carry it, in fact I want it because its less lethal. It would be cool to see Bradleys and Strykers gettting hit with these and not being destroyed 80% of the time like with the RPG-7 or 30 of these bouncing off an Abrahms. It would be cool to arm some Syrian infantry with these in an urban setting to even the odds in a US-Vehicle vs Syrian Infantry standpoint where currently its suicide to do something like a thunder run or convoy.

  5. I've been playing around in the editor a bunch waiting for the 1.04 patch to come out. Tonight I was experimenting with all the different Syrian troop formations with differing quality weapons. One of my goals was to find out if I could hit the right mix of formation and weapons quality to see if I could get the Syrian infantry to use RPG-18s instead of the RPG-7. I experimented for about an hour but found no working combination, except for the default single RPG-18 in some of the low end Syrian ATGM teams, which I already knew about. Have any of you ever seen any Syrian unit other than ATGM teams using the RPG-18s, or found the right editor combo to get this?

  6. Most forums destroy posts/threads like these at the first sight of piracy talk, is this allowed here? My stomach starts hurting and I get the runs when I think about pirating a good game developed by a good developer that deserves to get payed for their work. On the flipside, If I dont like a game I just dont buy/play it. Software piracy is to the point now that if you dont do it, alot of people think you are uncool or something. At work I talk to people all the time about PC games they have downloaded and I tell them I never pirate any software and they stare at me with a look of "you are uncool" disbelief and ask WHY? I just stare at them b/c explaining would not do any good. I need to vent, I FKIN HATE SOFTWARE PIRACY AND FART ON THE PEOPLE WHO DO IT !!!

  7. I'm an insane coffee connoisseur, the only cup of coffee around here that costs $5 is an expresso drink, cup of 100% Jamacan Blue Mountain, 100% Kona or maybe a big cup of Yauco Selecto AA.

If any of you like coffee, pick up a good variety of Panama Boquete, such as the Lerida Estate Peaberry. It must be just roasted and you must have a french press. Its one of my favorites and usually doesnt cost too much.

  8. I was wondering if anyone was developing or planning to develop any huge (detailed) scenarios over 3km x 3km despite the current tendency for the game to devour your computer with maps like this. I decided to go ahead and have been working on mine for the last two weeks and am about 40% finished. Its taking forever due to the insane load times for just the scenario file itself, 3D viewing and the detail that is going into the map. Hopefully some of the lag and insane load times will diminish with patches and driver updates, or if all else fails, by the brute proccessing force of near future computer technology.

Here is a little synopsis of the current 3424m x 3424m scenario I'm currently working on.

Its based loosley on the Abu Ad Duhur airbase and surrounding land in Syria. Its meant to be a near future version with added recent military construction projects. The airbase is scaled correctly with 2500m runways with large open agricultural rural areas around it. Some cool real world intel about the base and area. This airbase is known to be a transport hub for a large variety of heavy weapons, scud missile parts and skilled personnel comming in from Iran. AT missiles and other weapons flown into this airport have been handed directly to Hezbullah. There also is a nearby joint Syrian/Iranian scud missile factory that partly owns and operates this airbase. The mission basic abreviated mission plan for Blue vs Red so far is... US Airstrikes avoid base due to possibe valuable intelligence materials on base. Syrian Air Force evacuates airbase at the beggining of the air war. Syrian Special forces and mixed regular Syrian ground forces dig in around the base in hopes of stalling the US in time for a complete evacuation of materials from the base and nearby scub assembly facility. Advancing US HBCT forces are tasked with taking the base and surrounding terrain and attack at dawn.

    Sound interesting?

  9. When firing on enemies out on balconies I get a much higher rate of kills than if they are inside the structure. It seems to be moddeled fairly accuratley. Once on a mission where there were alot of enemies out on the balconies, I called in some 120mm Mortar Anti Personnel artillery and it whiped them off the balconies, but left enemies alive who were inside of the building.

  10. Someone mentioned this somewhere else in the forum a little bit back, but until recently it hasnt really bothered me until I started developing this HUGE scenario map. Ever since the new textures came out with 1.03, green grass has been much to bright green to fit in with the overall color pallete of the Syrian environment. Could BF please consider doing a small adjustment on green grass color so that it still looks green and alive but doesnt clash so much with our other map colors and environment.

What does everyone think about green grass color, could it use a little tweaking? YES or NO

***NOTE*** I do understand this is insanley small potatoes in comparison with present patch work, however, it would be cool to get it on the work list.

  11. It would be cool to actually see some type of descriptive graphic for each aircraft ammo type instead of the generic M203 grenade symbol thingy. It could be something like this, instead of the generic ammo symbols, there could be a symbol for.

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

    (Bullet)-(Rocket)-(Missile)-(Lt-Med Bomb)-(Heavy Bomb)

The bomb classes would count guided and retarded bomb loads together. This system would not tell you exactly what weapon the air asset is carrying, but would give players a much better idea of the classes of weapons carried and the asset's overall weapons capability.
