  1. Hello Aco,

Hope you still remember me, think we played one or two CMBB or CMAK games awhile ago. Still interested in playing further PBEM games, using some House Rules ( Think you might have a version of it already ).

Actually in the time frame of the game, I doubt you would have that kind of communition between the Inf and Armor ( especially Russian, vs. Western Allies ). Also, it simply would be a waste of HE Ammo load that would be better suited for direct area fire that you actually see some of its affects. However, you could always have an excuse and say that your JS2 is area firing some woods in front, because of suspected enemy units ( even thou your real intention is in hopes that some shells land further back and hit that house that you cant see ).

Like Costard mentioned, that roles is better suited for field guns and mortars.

Hope to hear back from you soon.

  2. Banjar, welcome to the CM community, and feel free to continue posting anthing CM or WWII related.

Awww yes, I still remember playing that demo scenario over and over again right before I purchased my CM bundle pack yrs ago.

If you havent already done so, I suggest you read through the various threads and posts regarding both CM games. There you will find alot of interesting info about the game mechanics, Tips & Tricks, and alot of other WWII related subjects.

    * IMHO, believe the use of popping smoke in CM is alittle over-moddled.

If interested in discussing, and play testing any of the CM titles ( except CMBO ) to help you understand the mechanics better just email or PM me.

    Thanx

  3. I would also like to include other vehicles besides the PZIVH when it comes to armor thickness in CM.

Half the front armor of the ISU 122, 152, have not been calculated in CMs determination for armor thickness. CM only gives the front armor of both vehicles around 90 @ 30 degrees, but not the other half of the front armor which should be around 120 rounded. This would make hits on this thicker area deflect many of the German 88/56 or 75/70 rounds outside short range.

  4. Hello CM Community,

I am involved in a CMBB 2 game Operation and would like to know the following: My Russian opponent has 2 MMGs immobile with last man in middle of a street. Will he be able to move it at beginning of next Scenario, or will it stand its ground. If he is able to move it anywhere next scenario then I have to find a way to finish him.

  5. Hello Juut, and Horn,

Welcome to the Combat Mission Community. All the above info is very supportive in helping you achieve your CM experience. If either of you need any help or questions regarding the game mechanics, or want me to guide you thru some small test games just email me.

    Thanx

  6. In most cases you should have captured the gun crew with no problem, with either a run or assault order, However, an advance order might stop short of its objective if there is return fire. I have done this a few times in the past and have always been successfull in capturing the gun.

Try to simulate this a few times against the AI. Have a U.S. Infantry Platoon against say an entrenched ( Weapons Section ) HMG, Mortar, AT gun, Weapons PHQ or Section HQ with random bonuses every game to see what other results you encounter.

  7. The IS3 came out at the very end of WW2, and did not see any action.

Combat Mission IMHO does not effectively model large caliber APHE ammo against vehicles. If a 122 or 152 HE or APHE shell hits any vehicle, then it should be KOed (armor being destroyed with crew casualties), or if a new miss resulting in possible immobilization.

  8. Juergen,

In all fairness to CMC, atleast you can fight large battles at the Grand Tactical level ( each unit a Company or even Battalion ) that would otherwise not be practical with CMBB.

John Tiller's Campaign Series is pretty much identical to the old TalonSoft EastFront and WestFront II ( Just re-packaged ).

The main problem I have with JTCS ( just like in EastFront, WestFront ) is that you are able to move one unit, then fire, find the results, then move another unit, and do the same for each subsequent unit, all in the same turn. To me this gives unequal or unrealistic combat results. However, there is a rule I believe which allows a player to move all units in a Company or Battalion at once ( I am still play testing it out ). Now in saying that, I prefer CM and its WEGO system better.

I still like JTCS, because its a Platoon level game, and with some player house rules will make this game much better.

  9. Juergen,

I own some of those WWII Operational games that came out in the later 90s. One is called Panzer General 2 from SSI, with each unit a Company or Battalion. You pick the nationality you want, and go thru several campaigns on either the eastern or western front.

The other ones are called East Front, West front, and Pacific Front from TalonSoft. Each unit is a platoon and each turn is 6 minutes. You can choose several scenarios or campaigns just like in CM. I also own the New John Tiller's Campaign Series, which is just a remake of the older out of print East, West, and Pacific front. ( this time all 3 games are on one CD ). You can check it out over at Matrixgames.com

If you have any other questions about these games, just feel free to ask.

  10. Just like Ted, I had same thing happen to me once. My opponent sent wrong file by mistake without a password, and I was able to see all his units. I told him what happened and we just started game over.

  11. Malfuriouspete,

You are right, there is no excuse why this should happen in CMBO ( CMBO is outdated ). Just purchase CMAK, and be done with it. This will also give you the Med theater ( Italy & N.Africa ), and with alittle research at this Battlefront Forum you can also download the CMETO mod to give you the feeling of being in N.W Europe.

Hope this helps, and if you have anymore questions I will be happy to help.

  12. I am interested in setting up either a German vs British or German vs. US Infantry or Motorised Battalion size Operation, Italy, Late 43, Meeting Engagement.

I would like to try and make this a 2 or 3 day Operation with a town and crossroads overall objective. Does 3 games per day and 30 turns per battle so good ? other suggestions, How about map size ?

What would you suggest for a good force composition that is fairly equal for both sides ( no points ).

I want to include AT or other field pieces, Flak, some Armor, maybe additional Arty FOs and possible Air.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanx

  13. I am interested in setting up a German vs. Russian Infantry Battalion size Operation, June 42, Meeting Engagement.

I would like to try and make this a 2 or 3 day Operation. Does 3 games per day and 30 turns per battle so good ? other suggestions, How about map size ?

What would you suggest for a good force composition that is fairly equal for both sides ( no points ).

For example; Both sides have an Inf Battalion, should I add an additional Inf Company to the Russians. I want to include AT or other field pieces, Flak, some Armor, maybe additional Arty FOs and possible Air.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
