I'm playing as Americans in "Methode Champenoise" and Germans in "If at all". Why?Originally posted by Richie:Which side you playing Shmavis?

There's always World War Two Online...or Battleground: Europe. Whatever they're calling it nowadays. It's exactly what you describe, except on the Western Front.

Acid? I've only played a battle by that name that Renaud designed. I had no problems.

Yes. Yes, you always are. *grabs popcorn*Originally posted by JasonC:OK, I am now convinced we have a genuine ignorant git on our hands. Or a troll.

Some have mentioned using FRAPS to record turns, but the resulting media file for just one turn was quite large. Several hundred megs, I believe. Recording, say, a 30 turn battle would take up a huge chunk of your hard drive. Anyone can clarify, if I'm mistaken.Originally posted by Lanzfeld:Was'nt there a program that let you watch the battle as a whole movie?
EDIT: This thread may be useful. Other recording programs mentioned are "SnagIt" and "Game Cam".

Hello, Kingfish! I'm currently playing "Methode Champenois". I'm probably about to be slaughtered, but the map is great and I'm having fun. "If at all..." is proving a tough nut to crack, too.

Glantz and House's The Battle of Kursk gives a good account, if you can find a copy.

I just got my own PC fixed a couple of days ago. I was on the wife's laptop until she took it with her on her latest trip to who-knows-where. Then I had to endure several painful days without home internet access. Can't a guy watch porn in the local library computer room without being disturbed? Sheesh.

So...I go offline for a few weeks and you start playing other people. Is that how it is Travis? Fine, know what? FINE! </font>Originally posted by Other Means:</font><blockquote>quote:</font><hr />Originally posted by Shmavis:
Right. I'm playing GeorgeMc's Strachwitz at Kharkov scenario and I'm just starting the third and final battle. While moving some units during the setup phase, I noticed a red command line leading from an infantry platoon HQ to a StuG. Said StuG had lost its battery commander in the previous battle. This is news to me.

I highly recommend the museum to anyone who hasn't visited and that you buy advance tickets, unless you enjoy queues.

Aw. Where's my batch of horsefeathers? I always wanted one.Originally posted by JasonC:Shmavis - congratulations, that was the greatest pointless non sequitur this site has seen in many a moon.
When side A claims kills of N against side B, you go to side Bs records of its own losses and find N/2 or N/50. Each side's records of its own losses are believable, of the other guy's are always, always wrong, and always, always in the same direction. National biases (who is A and who is have exactly nothing to do with it.
My point is that you constantly refer to loss reports as an infallible resource readily available for review, even after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. I realize that a plethora of records were revealed, but I don't understand how you can be so sure of their absolute accuracy, much less their continued existence for such a vast conflict over almost 4 years. Surely you're aware that the Stalinist era was often a dangerous time to speak or display the truth. By the way, I'm not nationally biased.

Yes, because the Soviets never inflated their own kill figures while "neglecting" to report their own losses, especially disastrous operations. Mars, anyone?Originally posted by JasonC:Tero - claims are horsefeathers. Show me the Russian side loss reports with cause or time of loss coinciding with the supposedly instrumental air attacks. This can't be remotely hard if the kills are real.

Oh, you tease.

Ugh. I can think of no greater pain than trying to deploy an 88 offensively. I was playing an attack scenario set in October or November 1941, and my PBEM opponent had 3 or 4 KV tanks. So, the single 88 that I had was desperately needed. And, of course, when I attempted to place it, the gun was dropped in the wrong spot. Yay.

Hah! Hello, Jason. Only you would be here on this day...and me, but I'm on vacation. Happy New Year, crankypants.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any scenarios based on the battle of Narva in 1944. A search here turned up a scenario called "Orphanage Hill". It seems to have gone the way of the old Scenario Depot. Thanks in advance.

Another timely rescue from National Socialist fanboy madness, eh, Jason?

"Rumsfeld is gone?" the sergeant asked. "Really?" Mr. Menti nodded. Lance Cpl. James L. Davis Jr. looked up from his cigarette. "Who's Rumsfeld?" he said.
Too funny.

Ah, Mike. I'd call it shameless self-promotion, if your work wasn't so durn perty.
Cannot find RoW IV scenarios anywhere
