  1. Should this not be a pretty straightforward with personal and equipment losses. You figure 2 to 1 ratio when attacking and there you have it. Does anyone have any figures?
  2. I was more asking a question as I know little about computer code outside of the very in depth C++ class I took about 10 years ago : ). If they opened up the engine to allow conversion how easy would it be to install a "validator" that would check CMBO for correct versions/cheats ect? As to the game engine, isn't that copywrite protected or can the general idea/system be stolen? I think you are wrong here. If there was 40k total conversion mod I don't think people would play less CM. I would play the same CM, just less of other games on my desktop. I doubt you would fracture this community and some of the older people/community sites that have dissappeared might still be around. Mods do add longevity to games and their community but if it would sacrifice the "non-cheat factor" of CM then I would agree with you that it is not worth it.
  3. I have always had this question, why is the CM series of games not moddable? I don't mean graphic mods, I mean total conversions that change movement rates/firepower/ ect. People could take the CMBO/BB/AK and make Sci-fi (Warhammer 40k, Hammer Slammers, Battletech), Horse and Musket era, WW1 ect. Mods add longevity to your game life as well as draw and keep fans. The only reasons I can think of to keep these games non moddable is cheating could become more of a problem and to protect you game engine?
  4. Just bored at work and I wanted to see if anyone had already done it. I have tommorrow off and was looking for something to do. Seeing that I haven't fired up cmak in quite some time, I want to try something a little different.
  5. I am sitting at work wondering if anyone has tried this before. I was thinking of making a little ~platoon level cm game at home. The base unit as a single soldier. I would get into the editor and use units like the bar unit, sniper (might be a little overpowered in this area), light mg team, reduced squads down to one rifleman, bazooka teams, reduced plt leaders to one man to represent squad leaders, captain hq down to two men to represent plt hq. Maybe use AFV or two. And then play cm like squad leader. So has anyone tried this and did it work very well?
  6. It is hard to say you will need the siegfried line. Say you are playing the Germans and the war is going well, why would you need the siegfried line? That and from what I have read engineers are able to fortify an area so you can create one yourself when your war plans crumble.
  7. Instead of of Recon unit, how about a tech. Once reasearched, your airfleets could be designated to recon for a turn. The higher in the recon tech, the farther range/greater information received by your air units set to recon. I imagine you wouldn't have a fleet of recon units, just recon units inside of a fighter corp.
  8. Having lurked these battlefront forums for years(never been much of a poster) this game has me very excited. What feature has you the most excited about SC2? For me it is the added depth and editor. To me SC1 was one complexity level from being the ideal game. Most strategic games are too complex to enjoy, but SC2 seems to be the right mix of accuracy and fun. (exp. HOI, you are on a strategic level but yet you must set the exact time of an air attack to help your groud forces) Plus I see this as a TAOW minus one level of mircomanagement. From what I have read, you should be able to create any engagement form battalion level up with the editor. This game is on the for sure list of 2004.
  9. Yea, I was talking about the flak towers. Here is a site with some good pictures of at least the Zoo tower http://www.geocities.com/lupinpooter/berlin.htm The four corners held 128mm flak guns that were used on ground targets approaching the city. These served as grouping points for the hitler youths and last defenders of the city. They did withstand alot of punishment but had to be destroyed after the war as be considered offensive weapons.
  10. If I remember right, the 128 flaks were in the flak bunkers in Berlin. There were one on each corner of the bunker. There were also many 88s on the platform lower as well as numerous 40mm. The 128s were used in direct fire modes but I think they were directed at infantry concentrations in the battles outside of Berlin. When I get home I may check up on it in a few books.
  11. SS tank Destruction Company Dora II formed from skorzeny's SS commandos. It was led by SS-Untersturmfuhrer (2nd Lieutenant) Porsch who already had 4 tank destruction badges. During the battle of Seelow heights (in which this company was formed and deployed) it claimed at least 125 tank kills. Porsch killed 17 personally and lead a counter attack that routed a rile battalion at Neu Zittau and captured the battalion HQ. He was awarded the Knights Cross for this action on 26 of April 1945, one of the last awarded. This counter attack left them in a salient that was cut off by soviet advances. 2 days later surrounded and out of ammuntion, the remaning 11 SS soldiers (including porsche) refused to surrender surrender. They fixed bayonets and counter-charged the soviet coup de grace. Another bloody end to a German unit on the easten front.
  12. After 39 months you would think they could make the perfect grass mod and my quest would be complete. [ September 26, 2003, 11:58 PM: Message edited by: Grapeshot ]
