  1. Beyond the Beachhead, by Joseph Balkoski

A really good account of the 29th Division...

Also some I have enjoyed are:

'The D-Day Companion', J. Penrose Osprey Publishing, ISBN 1-84176-779-4

'Currahee, A Screaming Eagle in Normandy' by D. Burgett, ISBN 0-440-23630-4

'Invasion 1944', by Hans Speidel, ISBN 0-445-63812-9

'Fighting with the Screaming Eagles', by R. Bowen, ISBN 1-85367-465-6

'From Normandy to the Ruhr: With the 116th Panzer Division in World War II' , by Heinz Günther Guderian, ISBN 0-96663-897-2

'Omaha Beach' by A. Lewis, ISBN 0-80782-609-X

    ...

  2. Not sure if this would work, but put the siG in a reinforce group with its towing vehicle and have it appear on turn x for the Human player, then put both in a AI group, you can then select its position (which can be variable by plan), on the map with the setup orders as dismount... then on order 2 have gun put into ambush or whatever mode you want... just not sure how the disposition of the siG (facing) will be during setup...

...or you could put in two AI groups (wasting an extra group which is always not a good thing) and have the gun appear at up to 5 locations (plans) and the vehicle at point x, same as the human reinforce and then plot movement of vehcile to where the deployment of the siG is...That way the vehicle won't magically appear and give away any type of concealment the siG may have during its deployment...

Not sure if that made sense, maybe it will help...

  3. You can look at battle endings in multiple ways, and even throw in the RT player, who at least during tests of my scenarios always state (I need a little more time)...

As 'DT' states, if you find the time limit that should create the closest 50-50 chance of winning (which is a great concept but hard to determine) then you should be working around that time. Personally, if the 50-50 time is say, 40 minutes, I will make the battle 35 minutes with a plus variable of 10 minutes. Seems to work, until the next time an RT player comments that the battle should have another 25 minutes added on it. There is really no way to determine, but it is up to the 'feel' of the designer in what he is trying to create.

I find trying to make a scenario fit all these requirements is just not in my best interest, and as always, I create the scenario for what I like, and others can like or not, its not my concern.

Beside if you look at the quantity consistant forum posters, it is probably only 10% (if that) of the whole 'playing' community, so to me that is not enough of a random sample to get worked up over (this is concerning game play, scenarios, tactics, and not all the other great things discussed here).

  4. I have downloaded all scenarios apart from Das Dorf des Todes which I couldn't find in the repository or the web - where can I find it?

I haven't posted it yet, but mjkerner was nice enough to be a playtester on it... It should be on my website by mid-week and then on to the BFC repository!!!

BTW a big thanks to mjkerner for playtesting some of my scenarios in the works...

  5. I had the same thing happen to me as the OP stated, mine occured while spotting, I got the denied and it looked like the battery was locked out... I even told my opponent as it occured after we both patched... Continuing the game about 7 minutes later the Arty showed up as FFE and off by about 50 meters... Now the battery is available again...

The question would be did the OP play out the game??

To me I concluded that the HQ provided some information to the battery and after being shot up till there was one soldier in the HQ without a radio, that the battery waited, for more info, and then decided to let loose based upon its last report from the HQ. At first I thought it was a bug, but it does seem sensible to me...

  6. Upcoming battle named Flooded Fields Forever... Map Screenies below. Battle: 12 June, the 175th Infantry was ordered to reconnoiter in force in the region of Montmartin-en-Graignes and seize two bridges over the Vire-Taute Canal, to secure the still insubstantial link between the corps from German counter attack from the south.

Battle is in Author-Test-Mode and should be ready to playtest early next week... Map needs all the Flavors added (still tweaking it)

If interested in a playtest contact me HERE

  7. How would you know? A perfect life might be great fun. I'd be willing to give it a try before I condemned it. Shame on you.

    Michael

Come on now, I am retired, and play CM:SF, CM:BN, and all the CMx1's everyday :) Thats perfect for me so I must have a perfect life... and I didn't even have to sell my soul, just a pair of hips, lower back, all my grey matter, and a left knee... ;) so I throw a lot of s@#t on the fan to make it fun... Oh the shame of it all....

  8. Is this some kind of intricate buildup for a "The patch is finally up!!!1!!11!one!!!"-type joke thread? If it is then it's base and despicable! :)

In case it's not that, check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDf07ZoVpoQ. And follow up with

if you need help with the whip stitch. :P

That is great... You ever notice that the 'member' that really tears at the game is on their first ten posts and just joined the forum within the last two months... Makes you wonder whether they are real youngin's who just can't comprehend what CM:BN is all about, or they might be frustrated gamers with alignments to failed projects that need a place to vent... Maybe they are both... at least be constructive if you have an issue...

I think that BF has done a good job at keeping us appraised at what their intentions are for the future. Hey nothing is perfect (except me), and if it was then life wouldn't be any fun...

  9. Hi All

I have a new scenario Das Dorf des Todes which will be ready in a day or so, The battle will be set for Axis vs AI, Alllies vs AI or H2H, all of which will be independent versions of each other. The battle is an Allied attack on the Village of Oye-Plage by Units of the 4th Infantry Division, Time is 55 minutes, Dawn, Fog and Rain.... Please contact me HERE and let me know which version you would like to test... Thank you

Here are some screenies of the development:

  10. Cthru doesnt work in CM. Or it might work if we get CM work in window mode. Is it possible to open CM in windows?

I have got it to work with duel monitors NVidia 460x, where I put the Cthru image on one, open CM on the other and then slide the Cthru image back on top of CM, though it is touchy as I have had it lock up CM a few times... you cant scroll the CM screen, or mouse over to the other monitor... so IMO after all my excitement, I will have to go back to layered .jpgs on one screen with CM editor on the other... :(
