  1. Thanks Martin. After a night's sleep I am trying to get this thing to work. I'll try to not let my frustration show. Now that I have installed this on a new pc, I load it and get this blocking elicense request. How do I get rid of this thing so i can just start playing again.

What's frustrating is that I just got back into ToW and WAS having a lot of fun.

  2. Why are BFC games becoming such a hassle to play? I am trying to get back into Theater of War after having it gather dust for almost a year and a half. Now that I am installing it on a new computer, I need to re-license the thing? Guys, come on, let's make this process a bit easier in the future please.

I just tried the uninstaller and it did not work. So, I guess I won't be playing ToW anytime soon. Sheesh.

  3. My question is whether or not CMC will work with 32-bit Vista with an ATI 4870 graphics card. Will it? I have actually been enjoying my Matrix game: Panzer Command: Kharkov. Not nearly as good as CMx1 but at least it is Vista and wide-screen compatible. Bottom line is that I'm back playing an enjoyable WWII game.

  4. "Everyone involved is aware that CMC is coming out too late to become the next blockbuster seller. Judging from emails there is still a fan base waiting for it which we do not want to disappoint. We're certainly not pressing to finish this game to make money.--Martin"

That's OK,as long as they make this CD widescreen compatible I'm more than happy to shell out the bucks to get back to CM.

Cool, can't wait to play some of my old PBEM budies again.

    Can't wait!

  5. I assume CMC (whenever it gets released) will include a new CD (that is widescreen compatible)with the package. Maybe they can also throw in a few bones like multi-turreted AFVS a la CMAK.

Hope so, looking forward to getting back into CM--sorry, CMSF never did appeal to me and I still won't buy it until the WWII module is released.

I still shake my head in wonder as to why the die-hard CM 1 series fans had to be saddled with modern warfare because of CM designers WWII burnout. Funny, I thought it was the customers desires that matter in business.

  6. "tooz, with expectations like that i'm almost sure you will be disappointed... "--sneaksie

What I am not disappointed with is your commitment to improve this game. I like the game now, and look forward to the patched version.

I hope this game becomes successful enough that other modules--with additonal theaters--become available in the future.

    Keep up the hard work!

  7. Guys, let's wait and then enjoy a fixed quality product. In hindsight perhaps ToW rushed their initial release which frustrated many. I'm eager also but really not ready for another letdown.

  8. "Modding support anyone?"--Redwolf

Great point. Now that CMSF seems to disappoint more than please (from what I glean from this sadly moribund forum) perhaps BFC should throw the devouted CM1 enthusiasts here a bone. Remember the forum in '04? I uninstalled CMBB and CMAK once I discovered it was not wide-screen compatible (even EYSA Second Front IS!). Why not let modders go to town and try to bring back some life into these old CLASSIC games. Imagine having T-28s, T-35s and Lend-lease Grants and Lees modded into the game ala the multi-turreted CMAK vehicles? Things like this would bring me back.

For now, I am enjoying ToW--problems and all--despite getting clubbed EVERY GAME! However, ToW is not as satisfying as CM1 WAS.

CMC seems like vaporware and I am very glad I don't like modern war sims, thereby not wasting money on CMSF.

Oh yeah, BFC said they were "burned out" from WW2. Perhaps it's time to rethink this?

I feel let down by BFC. 2002-04 were years full of fun and excitement with CM1 and the then lively forums. What I see now saddens me. I would like to see some effort from BFC to try to bring back CM1 fans.

Redwolf has a great suggestion. Anyone listening at BFC? Maybe take a look at the Total War sites and see how vibrant and active their forums are--especially when it comes to modding.

Hope so. Right on Redwolf, right on.

  9. Well, the problem doesn't seem to be on my end. The connection is fine, and I just downloaded a nice mod for Rome: Total War/Barbarian Invasion (called Invasio Barbarorum)without any mishap. Hmmm, Moon, can I just get a $10 credit, voucher or refund and be happy that I have the CD and manual? I will willingly give up the downoad. This bug cost me some sleep, a fight with the wife, and about 30 hours of pure frustration.

Sure hope the game is worth it.

  10. "tooz, do you have enough free harddrisk space?

    Martin"

Moon, yep--way more than enough. Here it is day three and I now get THIS message:

"The Setup Files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program."

So, I guess the new copy would be the CD? What is the anticipated shipping time (I live in Milwaukee)? If I should expect the disk any day now I'll bite the bullet (no pun intended) and wait.

Question is, why did I pay an extra $10 if I could not download anything. Please note that I have successfully downloaded other games to this PC without mishap.

  11. I have tried everything--even subscribing to Get Right and I have as yet to succeed in getting this game to download. This is the error I receive (for the third straight time) "C:\Program Files\Battlefront\Theater of War\3dobj.SFS An error has occured while trying to copy a file...the source file is corrupted".

This seems almost cruel. i will have the cd in a few days--hopefully--but why am i having these problems?
