  1. Thanks, went off scenarios after trying out a couple that were ordinary compared with the usual QB.
  2. To be blunt for a change, it aint easy to find a balanced and challenging scenario of any type, let alone a Brit/Com -v- German combined arms job in the desert. No more than 2000, large map, ME sounds good, post Matilda dominated era sounds even better. So, some of you seem to have some clue, what do you suggest, politely?
  3. Whats with the slow convoy speeds? On exercises my lot used to simulate an emergency and crack an average 50mph easily on sealed roads before having to stop to refuel.
  4. As others have indicated, the maximum practical towing speed would depend on the road or ground surface. Even with no suspension and solid rubber tyres there is no reason why something like a AT gun could not be towed at maximum WW2 type speeds, if the surface was good enough.
  5. Good idea Steiner14 And Martyr, go fall on your sword.
  6. Is the TacAI involved? Because what it will often do when your tank comes up against a superior tank is back away without firing, irrespective of your orders. Can't recall that happening in my experience against AT but it may well do so. But using tanks against AT should only be a last resort thing anyway.
  7. Yeh the road to nowhere thing as done by the map generator is a bit offputting. But other than that its quite good, damm good at times. Other than fixing the wonky roads, it would be good to have the generator do abrupt changes in height, like banks and cliffs. All curves and no straight lines.........
  8. Do you mean that you can't have dug in guns? because you can Or is it that you can't dig in during a battle? Which would be nigh on impossible. Try digging a hole big enough to hide a large trailer in in under an hour. </font>
  9. Get it by mail direct, bugger the censorship rubbish.
  10. Yeh but its not 'green', and everything looks foreign </font>

  12. Definately bought it for the desert battles and thats basically all its used for. No skulking in the woods, hiding behind a house, use the pure unaltered terrain, love it During the Reign of the Matilda the game is unfortunately skewed against the Axis. Play a QB against a competent opponent who has Matilda's and you can't win. Due to a number of factors. One, big HE is way undermodelled in its effect against armour. Two, the German tanks are given no chance at all of inflicting damage and behave through the TacAI accordingly. Three, you can't indirect fire on map artillery nor can you dig it in. But that aside, damm good, love the desert.
  13. ANN is the driver and she is loving whoever is behind her, following. Thats all, for the moment
  14. This constant praise of alleged Sherman reliability/durability compared with German tanks!!! Where is the real support for that contention??? For one they didn't last long on the battlefield anyway. Then in the later stages of the war the German support system was crumbling and inefficient, so proper maintenance was not done and they had to drive on their own tracks to their destination. Finally the proper records (Belton Cooper is a guide) show that the Sherman was not that great even if combat damage is ignored anyway. There are some remarkedly impressive facts in the Sherman Story, but in imporatant ways it was very ordinary, particulary as the war went on and others improved. The German IV for one has a far better record.
  15. For me the game works better over longer distances so a large map is about right in that context. Do a ~20 turn 2000 point ME and bobs your uncle
  16. And HE does it in CM too...my Matilda has just been KO'd by one of your 150mm rounds </font>
  17. To add insult to injury, one of my 150mm pieces popped in succession one on the turret front and another on the hull front of a Matilda. Which kept firing its MG's throughout There seems to be plenty of authority around that big HE can readily incapacitate a modern tank, which would be quite a bit larger and heavier than a Matilda. IIRC there was a discussion about HE and tanks here http://www.tank-net.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/Ultimate.cgi
  18. The sand digger readily agrees that this is a great game, I've said it before, its just that in certain situations some hole in it really is a PITA. Try playing German in mid '41 against British Matilda tanks for example, you really need to use those 150mm on map pieces firing indirectly to at least slow them down, damage a gun or two. Otherwise a game at in that situation is virtually unplayable as German against a competent opponent. Using 88's just makes it a shoot-em-up lottery, takes all the involvement out of it. Perhaps what follows should be a separate topic but as a suggestion (which has probably been made before) could'nt static infantry be given a protection bonus after a couple of turns? To imitate their digging in or otherwise making protective arrangements as they did. The infantry vulnerability situation needs a bit of tweaking in some other situations too, a bit less aimless crawling around under fire and more running to cover for a start. Enough, back to the PBEM's
  19. So your HQ can spot for your mortars but not your on map artillery?!? Where is the applicable historical authority for that???? You can buy on map artillery which therefore becomes the artillery of your force just like mortars, your HQ is apparently quite capable of spotting for the mortars but not for the artillery. Please explain. And it had better be good As a side note, although this is a great game, its things like this and infantry which don't get an automatic protection improvement for the assumed development of their static positions, aircraft which can sight and fire through forests, etc which make you wonder
  20. Thanks, turned out to be video card related, played around with the troubleshooting facility on the card and then it all decided to work. For now anyway
  21. The problem is also occurring other than when running the movie eg when merely displaying a scenario map without any other activity.
  22. Maybe coincidental, the patch was installed a few days ago and there was no problem for a while. But now the replays freeze during the first replay and the screen blanks out completely. Everything goes out, picture and sound. Then having tried a few of the published fixes for the Radeon video and Windows XP related problems, managed to do a one full minute replay and then blank out on the second. While it works its 100%, then it freezes without warning, then after a few seconds an entire blank out. There has been nothing else installed since the patch, nothing changed at all up until the problem began, there may have been some automatic Windows stuff, I don't know about that. This is the first problem I've had with CMAK at all, always worked perfectly up until now
