  1. Some people love to play with an editor, some don't. Editing for what if's makes sense. The need of editing for basics does not. The game should come with a good basic AI and reasonable historical basis without having to do editing.
  2. I hate to beat a dead horse, but once again very dissappointing AI. This has been discussed on a number of issues such as U.S. MPP's, D-Day, leaving capitals vacant, etc. etc. Great game and I like it a lot. I was expecting much more from the AI however. On a plus note, hopefully near an axis victory against the AI. US/UK & France kind of a joke, but the AI in Russia put up a pretty good fight. Maybe the future will hold better things, but WWII with little or no chnace of invasions of Nort Africa, Sicily, Italy and even France seems a pretty big flaw.
  3. I suppose. Still stupid however. Then again, world history has been filled with real stupid decisions as well. I will say, chits or no chits, actual game situation should have a bearing on such actions.
  4. Just a general rehash of past discussions updated now that SC2 is released. First let me say I think the game is great and would tell all to buy. I'm glad I took the leap of faith on the pre-order. Secon however, as far as AI, once again big dissappointment. You'd think I would know by now that virtually no one makes a decent AI on a "classic" wargame. Who would think that just setting up a basic reasonable defense or attack would be so difficult. Such is life. Some day maybe.
  5. Interesting end to game. Russia takes Berlin, and US/UK landed D-Day about to take Paris, obviously the game is over. AI then has Spain join the Axis at that time. Why then? Game ended in October 1944 major Allied victory. Berlin Munich in Russina Hands, Paris and Rome in US/UK hands.
  6. One more thing about lack of mpp ability, HQ's are certainly expensive as perhaps they should be. But having both Eisenhower and Patton means little if any forces for them to command. In fact in my game other than the auto created HQ for UK in North Africa it is pretty hard to create one for them as well, in June of 44 I'm still waiting. I intend to keep working at it to see if I can get a reasonable US/UK ability. On the allied plus side, Russia has had no trouble becoming the worlds greatest power. After they take Berlin, I think they will go for Paris, London and Washington. Maybe by the end of 1948 or so it can be a two power world after which they can take out Japan and have it all to themselves.
  7. I agree and that is the point I was trying to make. I have not yet found a way to reasonably reflect the US role, perhaps I will later. In my game, I managed to take North Africa, but totally with UK forces (and a poor Axis AI no doubt) I have managed to get one US Army into Italy with UK forces but that is it. I have gotten a couple of armies, tank, one bomber and one HQ to England to be used for D-Day but that is it. That massive Air power & sea power seen in the real thing has not been able to be done. With so much effort going to build MPP's, little could be done to improve upgrade quality. Taking the two front war into consideration, the game apparently has decided to send most of the war effort to the Pacific. Maybe with production delay being turned off, it would make it more possible to build forces in time for use, I haven't tried that yet.
  8. Well, still only limited experience so I hate to make final judgements. Currently against the AI in the first week of June 1944 I am about to launch D-Day. Very little air power as not enough U.S. MPP's to have created it. Oh the Russians never had to relieve Stalingrad and they are currently at Berlin. The USSR is vastly outproducing the U.S. (and UK combined) with their MPP's. Nice when you can devote over 600 a turn into research as well. So I still think the game is off on this, but it is early and the game was well worth the investment.
  9. Thanks Timskorn & Blashy, I gave it a try and it has helped a bit. Although I still feel that the U.S. is under rated again as far as industrial power is concerned. I really thought that would be fixed from SC1. As far as using the editor, it may work, but a game shouldn't need "artificial" editing to work well. Editing should be for what if fun. Just an opinion. Still, I am enjoying the game and am glad that I took the risk of pre-order.
  10. Jon von Rambo sounds pretty good and maintains your known identity. Although it may give a different conotation on your nationality I suppose.
  11. I apologize if this has been covered, I haven't noticed it but was away for a few days and may have missed it. I have only been able to spend limited time so far playing and against the AI. So far I have noted the very low mp value that the U.S. gets. (This was one of the flaws of SC1) I have tried to increase by investing in production and industrial but so far no luck. Is anyone else having this problem? Has anyone found the answer to getting a reasonably realistic way of getting the U.S. the industrial/production power it should have? Play balance or not aside, ability to run even one reasonable invasion by 1945 is questionable, much less historic actions to North Africa, Sicily and Italy. Perhaps I'm missing something. Again sorry if this has been covered.
  12. I wouldn't object to roads or railroads, but on this scale of a game, it does seem appropriate to not have them. Many hexes would have multiple roads in multiple directions.
  13. Ok, coudn't take it anymore, dial up be damned. Bought a 256mb Flash Drive, took it to office where we have high speed cable internet, downloaded SC2, carried it home on the flash drive and then installed at home. Got it licensed, and will shortly see if I can get the game to actually run. Who knows actual game would probably have arrived soon, but it was time to make use of the download if I could.
  14. Thanks for the reply and your efforts. It is appreciated.
  15. Thanks for the suggestion Rambo. Don't have a laptop. Don't really have the time right now if I did to do at a coffee house or elsewhere. I do hope the game ships soon, when we pre-ordered that was the implication. Offering a download is great, but they still need to get the game out. The down load was a nice surpise and extra, but wasn't the promised product. Better late than never, but I'm hoping they don't feel that by offering a download that they have met their pre-order obligations. In fact if they are using this time to correct some of the "bugs" AI etc. before putting out the game, I'm more than willing to wait. Besides Rambo, how can I ever expect to join the "legend" (at least in my own mind) if I can't get the game?
  16. Any update on when the actual game will be ready to ship? I was one of the first to pre-order, but at no fault of BF I'm sure, my lousy internet provider stops me from being able to succesfully download the game. I don't know how many others are in the same boat, but I hope that the actual "hard-copy" of the game can be shipped soon.
  17. Once again looks like I have to wait for the actual game. Tried to load with my wonderful Nationwide dial-up, for about 2 1/2 hours it seemed to be loading and I planned to just let it run overnight. BUT a copuple of hours later (earlier than expected) it indicated that download was complete. When I tried to open I got the file corrupted message and then noted that despite it being on the desktop, there was only about 39 out of the 120 meg. Hope the hard copy ships soon.
  18. Thanks SeaMonkey. I started the downlaod and when it reached estimated time remaining of 14 hours I quit. One, don't like to tie up the line that long, but mainly it is highly unlikely I could have maintained the connection. My internet provider joined Nationwide Internet and service went greatly down hill. I often get dropped connections and am lucky to keep it going for 20 minutes to an hour, much less 12 or 14.
  19. I think $45 even with $8 shipping is quite reasonable. Many computer games (at least on initial offer) easily go $49 to $69 in the stores. Also if a game is not "mass-market" you have to charge enough just to get a reasonable profit chance. I can't comment on how good the game is yet, alas my dial-up won't reasonably handle the download and I will have to await the mail, even though I was among the first to pre-order.
  20. Just another thought, Setting up a whole country is certainly nice. In US government isn't going to do it, nor would many want them too. Also, setting up a small populated area is a bit easier than covering thousands of miles many of which are comparitively sparsly populated. Hopefully DSL and/or cable will be available to my area sooner, rather than later.
  21. Dial-up is quite common in our area for people who live in the countryside. While in most of the cities and villages, high-speed cable and DSL is available, the internet providers (I assume for financial reasons/number of potential subscribers) don't take the cable or DSL to the low populated areas. At the office I have high speed cable, at home I'm stuck with a choice of dial-up providers. You can try satellite (many complaints about service though) and in some cases some very small wireless providers spring up, but again quality and cost becomes an issue. In short, unfortunately for quite a few of us the only reasonable choice is dial-up. My dial-up service was pretty good for a number of years, when the local area company merged with Nationwide. Now the service is lousy. Speed slow, but even worse dropped connections occur regularly. And a real horror story, as I mentioned earlier, I pre-rdered SC2, but won't even bother to attempt to download it, I will be waiting for the hard copy to arrive.
  22. Well, I'm not a farmer, but I kind of enjoy getting the email before you anyway. There is some justice in the world! Hope you get it soon though Kuni, I know you love SC and hopefully SC2.
  23. As I put on another thread 10 to 12 hours or more to downlaod by my blazing 28.8 - 40 or so dial up internet. No way can I tie up the line or probably even maintain the connection that long if I wanted too. Looks like I get to wait for the mail in 14-21 days. Such is life.
  24. Email received, Thanks BUT, looks like I will end up waiting. Unfortunately on my lousy nationwide dial up connection it would take 10 - 12 hours to download. I can't tie up the line nor probably maintain the connection for that long. I appreciate the thought however, if could get high speed internet where I live I would be playing shortly.
  25. Just food for thought: I do appreciate the thought behind the posting, however, considering the frenzy caused, the wondering if our email address was correct, the anticipation and just the need for us to keep checking our email just in case it came in, maybe next time it would be best to wait until the email was actually sent and then post to all of us that we should check for it. No big deal, but it might have made it easier on all.
