  1. Andreas, this is certainly true as one just can't seem to get away from those damned tourist backpackers. Unfortunately I rarely drink beer. Only when I'm desperate. I drink Cider. If I get in my car and drive for about 2000kms I can enjoy a beer in Sydney. I live in Adelaide. Not that everyone in Adelaide drinks Cider but I find it fun. Here we drink mostly beer and wine (re our famous? Barossa wine region) Perhaps it was in Bavaria I enjoyed your excellent beer halls, I can't remember as I was a drunken backpacker. I did indeed find that fun too, as I find BOTH CMBO & CMBB fun. I can't help feeling that if you find drinking a serious business then perhaps your taking it too seriously !!! You should then definitely come too Australia, so's I can buy you several drinks... no, seriously !
  2. Well I do hope the Aussies will be included as their own entity in CMAK, Hopefully as "Diggers". Will they be spontaeously driven to play "TWO UP" (90%) if there is no other action going on? (See note in any travel guide on aussies betting on a fly and two glasses of beer) Oh Andreas, how can the Germans be "dour and humourless"? You guys drink more beer than Australians. I've seen your beer halls for myself. It is true though, I am stuck on CMBO for now, but I must say that it is only with the input and feedback from such excellent gentlemen as yourself, that I have been able to realise the full potential of the fine gift the wonderful team at Battlefront have given me with both CMBO & CMBB
  3. Well I'm Australian Mate. No bloody Dutch here but it does mean I've got a boomerang up me backside. If it wasn't for our SAS in Afghanistan and Iraq I think most of the bloody world would be surprised we still have an army. God knows I am. As for the Dutch, well the German High Command "requisitioned" their factories and forced the workers to produce material for the "war effort". I viewed a program about 12 months ago demonstrating the resistance the Dutch put up to the oppression and how close the German District Kommander came to extreme measures in the face of blatant sabotage. Thankfully, for the Dutch he wasn't insane but the "aggitation" persisted until liberation. The Dutch did the best they could without bringing the full wrath of the Nazis upon the population. After all, how many Nazis do you see wearing clogs and having mayonaise on their chips? "You get a lot further with a gun and a smile than you do with just a gun"
  4. No but I'll let you whoop my ass PBEM ifn you got somethin' in mind...
  5. Oh it's fun for sure, no doubt !!! I was just hoping to play To The Volga, for hours and hours and hours..... Crummy athlon 1800+
  6. Thanks Juardis. I was vaguely aware I can do this, but one or two postings here have put me straight. (Including your's) You raise a couple of points here that interest me greatly. Hence I have some questions. I'll stick with the topic at hand, firstly, I understand that the scenario was put together on this scale in order to recreate the scope of Stalingrad and I wonder whether or not altering the make up will ultimately affect game balance. I am an ASL gamer from years and years back. I own a copy of Avalon Hill's Red Barricades and I'm pleased to see the scope of this operation is recreated in To The Volga. I'm just dissapointed I need Deep Blue to provide my AI for me . I'm pretty sure my CPU ain't up to the task. I'm also concerned over the size of the PBEM file required to be up & down loaded. The server I'm with (+ plan) limits me to 5mb My main PBEM buddy is my oldest ASL buddy but we see each other next to naught these days so there's no time to set up thousands of cardboard counters, let alone leave a mapboard set up for years. What I have been doing is painstakingly recreating Kampfgruppe Peiper (our favourite ASL slugfest) in the CMBO format and privately hammering it out. This brings me to my second question. I'm wondering if anyone is interested in the 3 KPG ASL campaigns converted to CMBO. Obviously there are compromises, but the real question is over copyright isn't it? At the moment it's just my interpretation of the ASL game and a private issue. Where do I stand here? Should I raise this under the general forum? Any Lawyers out there with some free advice? Now there's a juxtaposition... Or a bit like throwing 60mm mortar shells at a Tiger...
  7. OH JA !!! And so it is true. You can run it via hotseat or PBEM. Victory at last... A smaller version of this operation would indeed be an excellent thing. I haven't looked at the reinforcement groups but perhaps something could be done there. I hear some blokes in Japan built this monolythic 'puter to study weather patterns and global warming. I hear there up to turn 6 already... Thanks to all you fine fellas !!!
  8. Why stop at the Eastern Front? Lets face it, you only get the true pressure by fighting the war on two fronts (three if you include the new CMAK). I have my own dream... Combat Mission from 'Warsaw to Washington', me sitting infront of my PC invading the world and my missus indulging my enthusiasms, patting me on the head and saying, "there's a good boy Richie, nice shot by that Panther, here's another strongbow hun. Shall I cook you up another vindaloo?" War is hell...
  9. Thanks to all you fine gentlemen, excellent fella's to share the trenches with.
  10. " I've always loved you... " I've heard the KV-1 had that effect on many of The Reich's finest in 1941... Don't you guys watch the Blues Brothers?
  11. Thanks Markshot and Sodball. I guess MaddMatt wasn't kidding when he said he wondered if "To The Volga" was too large. I have to be honest, I haven't been able to leave CMBO alone to really look at CMBB. Sadly I'd play the whole damn war Combat Mission style ifn I could. I will try these things and then probably upgrade my CPU. BUGGER. Good luck at the front...
  12. You serious man? 15 minutes? The thing is the computer loading bar disappears about 1cm (1/2 inch) into it's track. I mean it goes. I'm left with the distant sound of 122's and the still picture. Is this what you experience?
  13. I purchased CMBB about 6 months ago and had problems. MaddMatt and the excellent staff at HQ sent me another copy that I subsequently loaded and about a week ago I finally installed the 2 patches 1.01 & 1.02. Everything seems to run except "To The Volga" I can set up as either side but after I hit go, 2 seconds into 'computer loading' my screen freezes and I must soft boot. I'm running an AMD athlon 1800+ with 768 ddram and a GeForce 4 MX 440, antivirus care of McAfee. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! I'm just hangin' to wash that Ukrainian dust out of my socks in the Volga. HELP !!!
  14. I don't know if this sounds like the same problem, but if I try to load cmbb 'to the volga', it lets me set up then when I hit go, it loads for about 1 second the the screen freezes and I must soft boot. I'm running an AMD 1800+ with 768ddram and an Geforce 4 MX 440. Any suggestions?
  15. You Guys are so right. War is hell and there'd be nothing like watching the whole thing just like reel to reel.
