  1. I think that the PSI of the vehicle passing over the mines affects the mine detonation chances considerably. For example, once I had a halftrack drive right through a minefield unharmed, and then an ISU-152 drove through the same MF and blew up. Also, I am not sure if roadblocks work on open ground. In CMBO, a hellcat drove right through a roadblock in open ground, but couldn't penetrate one on a road. Is this true for CMBB?
  2. What do you like to do when placing PAKs? I like enfilading fire zones and crest siting. I also make use of PAK front techniques. What are your methods?
  3. This is a heavy French tank that was used in May 1940 against the Germans. The Germans had great respect for it, since it was virtually immune to their Panzers and PAKs, in much the same way that the KV-1 was in '41. They captued a bunch of these, so why aren't they in the game? The Germans have the Hotchkiss, so why not the Char B?
  4. I like using PAK fronts! I base them on my infantry kill zone, so that there is a patch of intercrossing Cover Armor arcs(from the ATs), then a patch of Cover Arc arcs (from the inf.) So if they lead with armor, they get into the Vehicle arcs first and get toasted. If they lead with infantry, they pass unengaged through the vehicle arcs and get slaughtered by a PPSH ambush (I use this tactic mostly with the russians). If it's mixed, then the vehicles get filtered out at a range beyond the infantry's capacity to reply. And I position my ATGs, 57s and 85s, on the flanks, so even if they miss the big kill zone they still get hit by half the PAK front from the flank. I also get a 45 or two to take out thin vehicles without risking my big guns. It works well. Yesterday a King Tiger hit the kill zone and was deluged by 2 45s, 2 57s (w/Tung.) and 2 85s. It was penetrated 7 times and the entire crew died inside the tank.
  5. Standard Operating Procedure (I think).
  6. Also, the U.S doesn't need to take cities, they can just land an airborne force and seize Iraq's oilfields, effectively shutting down it's economy and forcing it to the negotiating table.
  7. See my thread on gamey gun tactics here .
  8. This is definitely gamey, but isn't too gamey, and can be useful. The favorite tactic is for taking out ATGs with tanks safely. You stay just out of LOS and area fire 1m away from it. The other gamey tactic, which is less reliable, but really cool, occurs if you want to shoot an artillery piece at a target beyond an intervening hill. What you do is area target the gun at a point on the hill as far behind the crest on the other side as possible and directly in line w/the target. The shell makes use of the shell-flying-over-ridgeline phenomenon and has a chance of landing on target. I actually pulled this off with a 150 against an 85 Flak once, but it's very rare. My reaction?     Any gamey tactics with guns that I've missed?
  9. Is there any particular pattern to the increase in price that comes with increased unit quality? For example, is a Veteran 85mm Flak 1.2 times more expensive than a Regular 85mm Flak?
  10. Got me there! Here is a website on Dora, it's worth a look!
  11. Not really, nothing (in CM) can knock down a hill. I've had a squad totally unharmed 5m away from an exploding 380mm b/c it was just behind a ridge. But maybe it would be a bit over the top with Dora (800mm siege gun, took 45min to reload).
  12. Yeah, but they gave the Sturmtiger some reload time bonuses, an Elite ST can reload in 1 min., when it took at least 10 min. in real life. And surely they could have a huge rarity factor and only really be used in premade scenarios against fortifications and pillboxes.
  13. Flak can do just about anything in CMBB. A few flaks can rout an attacking company, knock out the heaviest, most monstrous tank (by the bang, bang, bang, clang, clang, clang, OH MY GOD, BAIL OUT MEN!!! method ), shoot down an attcking plane, knock out guns, or anything else. The smaller ones are dirt cheap too, like the Soviet 25mm, which costs 14 POINTS! The 37s can even kill light and medium armor conventionally, as they have around 90 penetration at 100m. The only thing that can consistently beat them is indirect fire, be it arty, spotted mortars, or cannon area firing 1m away but not in LOS, the point is the flak can't retaliate. Isn't this a bit excessive? Is it really realistic that Flaks can beat the cr p out of anything they can see? It is fun though!!!
  14. Why aren't these included? Obviously they'd be off-map, but for the Germans at least it seems that they used large siege artillery pieces, such as the 540mm mortar, against fortifications. I mean, if you have the Sturmtiger, which was at least as rare, used for the same purpose, also had a super-heavy siege piece, and is even on-board, then why not the off-board siege arty?
  15. I like this tactic a lot, because 1) the opponent isn't expecting it, 2) if you attack, the main battle is fought farther from the flags, so you have more space to trade for time if you lose, and 3) you can very easily slip around an unsuspecting attackers flank and perform a rear or flank attack, especially with fast tanks such as T-34s and halftrack-mounted infantry. The problems are 1) if your flanking force misses the flank and collides head-on with the main enemy attack, it gets real messy real fast. 2)You weaken your MLR and if you're caught in the open while advancing to your forward objective(s) your toast. Does anyone else like to do this, or do you all just like to stick with the MLR-type defense? P.S. Happy, Redwolf?
  16. Ironically, the busiest thread on this forum is about it being DEAD!
  17. Is it because motorcycles were only used for strategic mobility (i.e. ride to battle, dismount, fight)? They wouldn't be very good fighters but would be the ultimate expendable scout!
  18. Welcome back from the grave, thread #1 (grave=last page)
  19. The Sherman wasn't meant to duel German tanks, it was designed as a breakthrough/infantry support tank. The tanks were supposed to be left to the specialized TDs, like the M10 and hellcat, with 76s. Later, they upgunned the Sherman to give it a decent gun when they realized that sometimes Shermans had to take on cats. Also, you could ship 2 Shermans in the same space as 1 cat, as well as the sherman being more mechanicaly reliable and faster, with a faster turret and better MGs. They got really nasty with 105s and Flamethrowers!
  20. I've seen infantry kill prisoners brutally (i.e. rifle butt-helmet noise) and tanks machine-gun prisoners. After all, it is the Ostfront.
  21. Tank: More likely to have a turret, better off-road capacity, more armor.
  22. Why the fixation on "taking" the trench? Just pound them at medium range with Mgs, mortars, and infantry, whatever helps. Eventually they will rout adn run away, only to be mowed down. Then you simply STROLL into the empty trench (assuming it's unsupported, if it is, you ASSUALT into it.
