I think too that CMx2 is very lucky to have around it a community of volunteers that are so dedicated as to cope with primitive scenario design tools and engine limitations that make painful or difficult to realize their vision. Without those volunteers, these games would be as dead and done as Norman Bates' mum :)

Ain't that the truth. And volunteers making the mods that should have been included in the first place, like Goumiers in RtV, without being given the tools. For me it seems BF's heart is not in it anymore and they are focussing on other things than CMx2. The slow rate of releases and the endless DELAY demotivates many people, among them very talented volunteers. Combine this with a small band of nasty characters who viciously attack everyone who dares to question the present situation (in my case after the opening of the Hunting Season by Elvis and Steve in person) and you have a community which isn't a shadow of what it used to be anymore.

me neither.  I also hate to admit it, but its taken way too long to come out.  I know its insane to even say after reading 5 pages of aragorn bashing over saying it but its friggin true.  Im sorry guys but I think the game needs a new engine or to gracefully retire.  not be dragged around as a mummified corpse like Norman Bates dead mom.

I mean after these modules what then?  Berlin city fighting in this engine? ugh.   Stalingrad in this engine would be vomit inducing.  Theres a lot of other things too.  I love this game series and its given me more pleasure longer than any other series but Im burned out, have been burned out, and the engines over 9 years old...

Think about it.  CMBO released in 2000.  I remember it well.  9 years later I was playing a fixed SF and waiting eagerly for CMBN.   Not eagerly awaiting a 10th CMx1 release.  Im sure others will totally disagree and thats great  - Im truly happy you either found this game or can continue to get joy and delight from it, instead of playing it so long it has no allure or mystery.  Its all old tricks to get around broken or fudged in game mechanics, unrealistic stuff, and knowing that its really invisible die rolls and not bullets coming down that street that decide if those men get hit.

cheers to all that remember who I am.. miss some of ya

My hope is that they are already working on a new engine in the background. I suspect that's also a reason for the slow progress. No problem for me with realism, still the best game around. But you have some valid points, sublime.

Schwimmwagen is great news. Thanks guys.

So, after we get the schwimmwagen here with the CMRT module, I will port it over to CMFB in place of the Kubelwagen. ...and then maybe in your next CMFB module you can just sweep in the Schwimmwagen as new content? I hope.

I am very excited to soon see official BFC snow in CMRT versus dealing with mod tags. @BarbaricCo Stjepan! Now we can let others worry to catch every single roof.

You guys made the best mod EVER! And that tells a lot at this forum! It made the long wait a lot more bearable.

Well, I only said I am not going to throw tantrums about this.  I do throw lots of tantrums.  I threw a couple on this forum the first time I did a campaign.  Later I realized it was just that I sucked at CM and had to play better and should stop wetting my pants on the forum.  Others are free to do what they wish, though I prefer it when folks talk about our digital toy soldiers and military history books & such.

I understand. +1 Overreacted a little because of the inevitable personal insults when one's giving a firm opinion at this forum. Too keen, that's my problem. 🙂

Anyway, talking about military history books. This one is a must buy. The latest book by one of my favorite authors, Douglas Nash on the IV. SS Panzerkorps during the battles for Warsaw July-November 1944. The second volume will handle the fighting in Hungary in the winter of 1944/1945. .

I'm considering buying a copy for Wart next Christmas to surprise him. 🤣 I always like to think he's the old man in above sketch that goes down first. 🤣

We can't fail to keep something we never made.  The only specific timeframe we've made for this Module is "winter 2020", which isn't a deadline per se because we don't ever set deadlines.   Especially for products we haven't even started working on, which is the case for Fire and Rubble for 5 of the past 6 years.

    Steve

Excellent. So everything is on schedule and this module is only announced some months ago, so what am I complaining about. Keep up the good work.

We only officially announced Fire and Rubble a few months ago so you haven't been waiting for 6 years for this Module any more than someone else who has been waiting for some other product we had not officially started.  Sure, you've been waiting 6 years since CMRT came out for more content, so what's the big deal of a couple more months?  At least we're working on it now, which wasn't true for the first 5 years of your wait.

As stated, March for Fire and Rubble is not happening.

    Steve

In those six years we had quite a few deadlines for this module that weren't kept. Waiting for a couple more months is no big deal, hell, we can wait for a couple more years if we have to. Beggars can't be chosers, but don't ask me to welcome such news. Apart from that I didn't for a moment expect this module in March. Knowing you guys we may consider ourselves lucky when we can start to download in September.😀

It has been a long wait.  I'm impatient myself and have a scenario on hold for this release.  I imagine for players who are East Front fanatics the wait must be especially frustrating.  I think it sounds like we are getting very close.  Also sounds like we might be getting additional vehicles out of the additional wait ......... Was it a schimwagen (however that is spelled) that they were teasing?  Just a bit longer and we can all finally be happy on the EAST FRONT!!  :D

PS - If you want to kill some time I have an (independent) CMRT scenario that is in Beta testing..................

You are right of course. It's not even that I'm impatient or bored. I'm just annoyed that this module seems to be treated like a sideshow. Anyway, you are a gentleman, it's for people like you that I care for this forum at all. 🙂

Not exactly a good ambassador for the Netherlands, is he.

The BIG PICTURE for you guys is BFC remains solvent and prospering sufficiently to keep putting out the products they want to put out. In the '80s the struggling Harley Davidson landed a contract to cast artillery shell bodies for the Pentagon, which allowed the company to remain alive for another 40 years. BFC is getting business. That's a good thing. They're not about to go the way of Brøderbund and THQ.

Delay is never a good thing, especially not after 6 years of waiting. Big picture my foot. If you want to stop me from speaking my mind, you can ban me. NEW DELAY.

  9. 6 minutes ago, danfrodo said:

So the British Ministry of Defense is subsidizing me playing w my toy soliders & tanks?  And all I have to do for this is wait a little longer for the new release?  I am considering this a win for all of us CM gamers.  So maybe I'll not throw temper tantrums and wet  my pants over not getting my toy immediately.

    How mature of you.

First line of my first post on the subject:

I'm really scratching my head here as to how you can interpret a direct statement that there's some delay as beating around the bush.

Look, I get it.  You're not happy.  But don't go making stuff up to make yourself even less happy.  What Elvis posted is true... the British MOD work is not having much negative effect on Fire & Rubble's progress because the people doing the heavy lifting on it are not involved in the MOD stuff.  Does that mean absolutely no delay because of MOD?  Clearly I said there is.  No bush being beat about.

    Steve

    Okay, okay.

  11. 24 minutes ago, BFCElvis said:

UUmmm,....That is unfair and insulting, mate. Neither of us are beating around the bush. I created an entire thread to let people know there is a delay and why. I'm not sure how that is beating around the bush. It's the opposite if you ask me. What I'm doing is trying to give folks an accurate, detailed and candid update on progress. As in "there has been a delay...this is what the delay entails...this is what the delay doesn't entail". This isn't the first time that I'm left thinking that perhaps less information is better.

No more follow up screenshots for you like that T34-85 I put up for you. 🙂

Correct me if I'm wrong. This 'special project' has taken away assets that would otherwise have been devoted to getting the module to us. Your words. This has been going on for a month and will continue in the coming month. For me that's disappointing news, but okay.

  12. 31 minutes ago, BFCElvis said:

I'll elaborate a tiny bit more than Steve, for clarity. The beta testers are not part of the special project. They have been going full bore on making and testing scenarios. Where it affects their progress is waiting for the last few pieces of the TO&E and the speed of new builds that contain fixes. There are currently 18 stand alone battles being worked on (I guess that is a bone of sorts) and @benpark has told me that he is rat-holing a few more. So, progress is going on every day.

The long and short of it is that it's new delay. Don't beat around the bush, guys. We all understand it's money, fair enough, but don't pretend that it's anything else than new delay.

  13. 16 minutes ago, MikeyD said:

Steve posted this on another thread, which clarifies BFCElvis's necessarily cryptic statements here.

The good news is during the (relatively brief) pause additional module scenario are being concocted. MoD isn't distracting the Fire and Rubble Beta crew because even they haven't seen what BFC is doing for MoD!

'so we've switched over to that as our primary focus for the last 3-4 weeks and for the rest of March' seems to suggest otherwise, but yeah, everything is relative, I guess. 🤔 Especially when you talk about a period of almost 6 years.

    Fall 2020. My bet.

Here's another angle to show them a little better (just not as artsy of a shot). I haven't used one of these guys yet but I have heard reports on fausts bouncing off of the "bed springs".

(Also, you'll notice in this that the TC isn't positioned correctly yet...as with the SU-100.That's why they're called Betas)

    Great stuff!
