  1. Welcome, Four Stringer! I'm still looking for more opponents. Let me know if you want to play TacOps TCP/IP or PBEM.
  2. Scenarios are more fun in the sense that the terrain is more humanized and the orders of battle more realistic. Also, meeting engagements kinda get boring after a while.
  3. I was surfing the web for some new scenario ideas and stumbled upon the North Korean Military Guide at globalsecurity.org. This is a very informative website with maps, equipment guides, orders of battle, strategy and tactics for North Korea and other regions of potential conflict. Does anyone already have a scenario for two-players set in this region? If so, please e-mail me. Note: I'm interested in playing a scenario that will use amphibious and engineering assets (to clear obstacles and lay bridges) in the less mountainous regions of western North Korea.
  4. Only Americans have this type of artillery, I think.
  5. Variable timing artillery - shells that explode overhead. One shell can wipe out a platoon.
  6. Don't purchase MGs. Get Vet bazookas and save up for VT artillery.

    Mog Map

Argh! You beat me to it!
  8. Has anyone played this scenario as the US with unit change of BMP2->BTR80 and the game set on default prefs? I'd like to know how you fared.
  9. Much of the delay is due to unfamiliarity with IRC and tardiness.
  10. CPX = Command Post Exercise http://www.battlefront.com/resources/tacops/HQ/text/CPX/cpxfaq.txt You may want to read this FAQ. It's a bit out-of-date but it's a good introduction.
  11. You might want to join the TacOps mailing list. http://lists.perilpoint.com/mailman/listinfo/tacops
  12. I also bought TacOps in '94 for my Mac, and I just recently bought TacOps4 for the very same reason. It's a classic, and it now supports Internet play. Now, huge 120 min 2 player scenarios can be played in an afternoon.
  13. I have been looking around, too. Have you been able to find a map of Mogadishu? I have been considering creating a map of Mog based on a research paper presented to the Air Command and Staff College. I have some "what if" scenarios that I'd like to try out.
  14. Yes, the Nov 9 CPX has to be the longest in TacOps history. [ November 10, 2002, 11:03 AM: Message edited by: Fire&Thunder ]
  15. 7024, not 7023 at schlepper for cpx today.
  16. For Win XP users, Go to the Start Menu > Control Panels > Appearance and Themes > Folder Options > View > uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types." This should enable the user to remove the .txt attached to the MapXXXc.names file.
  17. Slaggg, I'm available for a little test. I'll be at www.combatmission.com:8000 . Ring the bell. (I'll be away from my computer but I'll have my computer speakers on.)
  18. 1) Don't split units, especially mechanized infantry, unless absolutely necessary. Loading infantry takes up precious game time. 2) Know how to use special units, such as engineering, prior to game start. For example, know how to lay a bridge before attempting to cross a major river with a tank company. 3) Master the "copy order," "paste orders," and "get orders" commands, as well as keyboard shortcuts. Saves a lot of time. It's probably a good idea to print the keyboard shortcuts for quick reference. 4) Situation reports are more important than spot reports since all teammates can see all spotted enemy units. 5) "Use click sound" should be checked and combat results should be slowed a tad using "change combat speed." Speeds up game play without sacrificing game intel. 6) Be familiar with your IRC client prior to game start. 7) Use phase lines and BPs whenever possible. They're much easier to understand and remember. 8) At game start, name units (the shorter the name the better), plot names, set SOPs, target priorities, and engagement ranges. 9) Use a reliable IRC client. I used CMHQ's chat room with Internet Explorer 6 without any problems. Of course, it was difficult to use Ops features to kickban a few immature characters who had stumbled onto the channel. 10) Clean your mouse. Nothing worse than a mouseball that gets stuck on "candy" with timer counting down. Thud out.

    Map 567

That's a nice looking map with good use of overlays. Has anyone converted the older maps to look like that and would like to share?
  20. I appreciate your continuing support of this most awesome game, Major. Will the teammate transport bug be fixed with this update as well?
  21. Do we know which map will be in use? Edit: Is it 541c? [ October 31, 2002, 07:25 PM: Message edited by: Fire&Thunder ]
