  1. Why do you need a "wingman" AI? Why wouldn't you just have all the forces under control of either the separate players, or if someone gets dropped or what have you they fall under the remaining player(with handy notification of your new situation)?
  2. The best American Civil War games in my book (since sid meier's gettysburg which anyone into ACW should check out) are the Take Command series and the new series (WAR3DII) by many of the same guys. http://www.madminutegames.com/ -Take command 1/2 Manassas The new game will be at Gettysburg, http://www.norbsoftware.com/Portal/ Between those three games and what Battlefront offers. I'm fully content in the wargaming realm. And kinda sorta the Total War series, but it has grown old for me. Empires was a disapointment.
  3. I'm a big FPS player, but I've been following CM and playing it (the series) since I heard about the original CMBO in a PC Gamer mag preview. I've since played lots of different strategy games, but Combat Mission series and Total War series are the top two on my personal list. I've played FPS games just as long, now im playing Left 4 Dead, Resistance 2, Call of Duty 5, Killzone 2, Team Fortress 2 and lots of older ones. So I completely understand the transition you go under playing one type vs the other. CM games are pretty easy to jump into in terms of controls (you already clearly figured it out and are using them in the demo) and shouldn't be to difficult after rummaging through the strategy and tactics forum to get an idea of what you can use the other commands for.
  4. (4) Danger-Close. Danger-close information is included when applicable. FA and mortars—Danger-close target is within 600 meters of friendly troops. Naval gunfire-Danger—close target is within 750 meters when using 5-inch or smaller guns (1,000 meters for larger naval guns). Method of adjustment—During danger-close missions, the FO uses only the creeping method of adjustment (corrections of no more than 100 meters). From: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/policy/army/fm/3-21-71/ch8.htm I always hear about it, first time I ever looked up and saw what kinda number is actualy given for it.
  5. I'll give it a run through too and be your vista tester. Have 1.1 as well.
  6. Just finished this mission for the first time! Great great scen. Started it two other times but had crashes, and was an idiot and hadnt made any saves. My final was total victory with OK 188 98 KIA 25 196 Wounded 35 167 Missing 0 7 And took out two BMPs and 3 trucks What I did was hold the first platoon in the initial possitions, using two squads to bound up to the initial two houses between starting possitions and the trenches/crossroads. I also sent another squad up to the 3 houses to the right. Once I got my first set of reinforcements I kept all the MGs and Anti armour assets and put them up in houses and started moving my 1st Plt MGs forward to the two captured houses. I took all the inf squads from 2nd Plt and started moving up the right flank through the trees bounding up. While they were bounding I started to call arty down on the town and the area behind it, and dropped a lot at the far right side of the village (the houses that have LOS on the hill that I was bounding towards) this disrupted them enough that I was able to take that right flank pretty safely. I eventualy brought up MGs behind them as they were cresting the hill. In the center I moved one squad up into the row of 4 trenches after having to flush out 1-2 squads of enemy in the trenches with MG fire from the two houses I occupied in the begining. I left the rest of my units where they were, when the enemy got reinforced on the left flank I only had one squad there in one of the houses. They were quickly out of ammo and only had grenades left, I sent one squad to help out and kept the rest of my forces on the friendly side of the road along the ridge line to give support, as well as MG teams and HQ units that were still occupying the initial homes. While this was happening I began to push towards the crossroads bounding house by house. The BMPs and trucks caught me off guard at the end, I was really worried sicne I had left my AT assets way back, pretty much all of them were at the first occupied possitions or in the first trench right infront of them. But was able to hold the village/crossroads pretty easily. Main points of success were *Arty fire on crossroads at the begining, and continued fire to the right flank to protect my bounding Platoon *Swiftly moving up the right flank while causing heavy losses with the 1st platoon that primarily stayed in its possitions. *Using just 2 squads on the left flank, and having a lot of MG support(since I held most of em back) kept me safe from the large enemy reenforcement to the left flank edit: Another key reason I did so well was that I managed to stay clear of the enemies artillery. They called some in on my troops in the initial zone but it was behind the houses (falling where my reinforments come in) so it really just wounded maybe 5-6 men. The other time (and I would prob have lost if I hadn't avoided it) they called in heavy arty on the right flank on the hill (where its just bushes) and right as it was starting to come down I had given orders for my units to make the first surge into the buildings on that flank. The only troops left were two MG teams and one squad who I got to high tail it outta there with maybe 8-12 dead/wounded (although I was taking a little fire at the time so dunno who fell from what) Awesome mission, don't post much in the forums (just read a lot), but thought that since I was so successful and had so much fun I would post! lol
  7. After installing, cutting the application and pasting it on the desktop. That got rid of the saving path problem. Disabling the UAC was the second step, that solved the application crashing when trying to activate a mod.
  8. Turning off UAC was the last step in solving my problems! It runs perfectly now. Time to go enjoy some mods
  9. Well there is the CM mod database? http://www.cmmods.com/ And the file repository on battlefront. http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314 Does that help?
  10. lol, thats one of my problems, got a direct bookmark to the forums. I'm always missing the updates till someone says something! Cant wait for this to come out! I'm awaiting Killzone 2 on console and any CMSF module on PC.
  11. My newest issue is that when I attempt to activate a mod it gets a "excecution of this application has stopped due to a run-time error" and crashes These are my paths: "C:\Users\Chris\Desktop\CMSFMods" "C:\Program Files\Battlefront\Combat Mission Shock Force\Data\z" I wish I could tell you more about whats going wrong on my end but honestly I don't really understand the stuff, just like playing CM lol.
  12. So all I did was copy the file from where it was installed and pasted it on the desktop, now it works fine when I use the file on the desktop! Strange error/way to solve. lol Time to get down and dirty and start downloading some mods to try out.
  13. I have vista, but its the 32 bit version. I'll try uninstalling/reinstalling and see if that does anything. One thing thats strange is when I open it it says "Read-Only this database has been opened read-only. you can only change data in linked tables." Is that how it should be? Also, where do I go within access to "trust" the program? Or is that only for the full version (since I dled the runtime). And would the enabling macros do anything to solve this sort of error, and if so where do I go to change that? The Access runtime is just very barebones so I have no idea how to change settings without any sort of toolbar. I'm really excited to get this working, it looks like a great program. I'm just starting to get into Shock Force and love how mods improve a game (was big into the original CM1s). Thanks again for the help.
  14. Hey, trying to get the manager to work. When I save my paths I get the error "Error from inside SetSingleValue -2147467259: Operation must use an updateable query" When I click ok, it comes up with the error again, and on the third it says path saved but im not able to populate my mod list (get the error that I need to save paths first) I downloaded the access runtime and don't see a toolbar to check out settings or a place to change macro settings. Thanks for any help! Can't wait to get this running.
