  1. For a good read with many accounts gleaned from the participants and mostly centering around the Kursk campaign, may I suggest Martin Caiden's "The Tigers are Burning".If for no other reason then it's my signature .
  2. Game wise it's the low ammo loadout that makes me pass them up alot of times. In WWII they were considerably more rare then american .50's which were about as common as k-rations. [ December 28, 2002, 05:01 PM: Message edited by: Rickovich ]
  3. I thought my daughter said she had extra credit work to do instead of coming home now I see she's sunning somewhere!?!
  4. Ya merry merry xmas.Happy holidays and all that. Why does the alchohol fear me!Come back you lovely lil bottles...
  5. I had a situation where a Panther repelled no less then 7 squads coming from different directions killing a third of them and routed all but 2 and they were regulars. But the distraction was enough to get a SU-76 to it's rear and kill it.They are prolly more effective in game then they actually were.It was my understanding that this was a mortor like device that shot a frag grenade up above the tank generating flak(which of course tank was impervious to).In game it acts more like a computer controlled self targeting defense system.Firing at targets well away from the directly overhead airburst zone. But I don't know if they were targetable(I'm sure someone that cares will comment on this).Even if so mighty good job being buttoned up and firing on 7 squads coming from different directions and various distances. If they were all at the airburst zone at the same time would make sense but it was firing at some who hadn't broken out of the woods yet around 70 meters away then in next instant firing at another 180 degrees the other direction 30 meters away and so on.
  6. Choose unrestricted or high quality troops in the front end for soviet and you can pick or have the computer choose vet(or whatever your shooting for). And take the empty V.Please [ December 20, 2002, 08:39 PM: Message edited by: Rickovich ]
  7. Yea I most certainly do.In my opinion was to computer wargames as Panzerblitz was to board wargames.Very simplistic and far too abstract to be all that exciting, especially since SL had been around for about 7 yrs when it came out. When PB came out it was the first of it's type back then so one could over look it's shortcoming's.Wasn't till this fine series by BFC that I've actually enjoyed a computer version of those old standbys. There are many many things though one can do and simulate in SL/ASL that arent touched upon by the CM games(maybe oneday).I havent played with my 52 boards and 3 complete ASL unit set in several years.(I just decided to wait for something like this to come along. Now it has.I just want to do all those other things like in SL(not throw my skis away, use cossacks, paratroopers, reindeer drawn sleds in Finland etc etc etc.But at least with CM it dosent take forever to find the pieces and set up the board only to have one player or other sneeze and leave one wondering what may have been [ December 18, 2002, 09:46 PM: Message edited by: Rickovich ]
  8. The tune was originally a camp-meeting hymn "Oh brothers, will you meet us on Canaan's happy shore?" It evolved into John Brown's Body. Then in 1861 Julia Ward Howe wife of a government official, wrote a poem for Atlantic Monthly for five dollars. The magazine called it, Battle Hymn of the Republic. The music may be by William Steffe.
  9. Hmm.Yes I would really have to whack-a-panzy if they came in singing that lil fem song.I can just see the pink tanks and the goose stepping leatherette legions.....
  10. I think due to his ethnic sounding name you assume english isn't first lanquage. But this is what's coming out of our(usa)high schools these days. The leet speak swirling about as "cool" certainly dosen't help matters either.I think he did pretty well considering I've seen americans talk about the enoyying truble off peeple who kint spel.
  11. Oh yea Night on Bald Mountain wonderful piece just badly suited to CMBB.I've been using my own mod of SS Div Hitler Jugend - Die Fahne Hoch.Almost from the day I received the game. It's very well suited as an intro to whack-a-nazi.
  12. Hmm.The KV1 has a 76m gun.The KV85 had an 85m.The KV2 from the early war years had the 152m gun.It had vanished by the time the T34/85 was available. If the latter is available then the KV85 should be the model for the period. Not a tank from the early years. That's kinda like selecting a PZIVC when you could be choosing panthers .But as others have said KV was a beast in the early days.
  13. Comcast Cable. And how shameful it is to have me wish for something faster .
  14. To the degree of being in the peacetime bootcamp of 1940 Germany. That's a very senile soldier since they were at war since '39.And the details that one could point to could be lifted from books. This isn't the first person to recount being in a tank. Finally the poster of the story says that he did very little editing if any.I know it dosen't make any sense to do such a thing but stranger things have happened then posting a erroneous story.Just my opinion, not trying to start a debate.
  15. I have to agree that this is most likely fraudulent. For all the reasons mentioned above and many others as well. One springs to mind especially:"Then everything went black.I removed my MP38 and shot all 32 rounds into the russky."Ah lack of continuity gets em everytime
  16. Sounds to me like they got hold of some chronic.Should have stuck to Vodka
  17. One thing I and my neighbor/nazi opponent have done(now in our second full 6/41 to 5/45 campaign is to use a quality restriction in selection.Germans in the early war must take crack or elite and russkys green or conscript and nothing over 50% rarity.I know it detracts from full use of the set but the battles do come out more closely to the timeline all other things being equal. In the end of the war the reverse is used and helps to offset some of the tech advantages.Just throwing this out there for the more imaginative to tweak
  18. Silly wislets ya missed the to each his own mode. Some peep think Tetris is best game(shudder)I love this game thinking first (cmbo was a feeble proto)but I have and still think EQ is better for my time. But this is a great game but I'd rather play a comp version(sorry gamey)of SL. The AI is just too easy to beat and after the cool effects wear off the battle results even head to head becomes redundant. No wonder there was a battle fatigue.
  19. James Coburn has shuffled off this mortal coil.Star of the best WW2 movie "Cross of Iron".If you haven't seen it do so.
  20. I'm using(currently anyway )the SS Totenkopf marching song. It's real easy to pick a song and change it from mp3 to wave.Lot's of freeware/tryware out there to do this with.If anyone knows a good russky marching song, please give me a heads up on where I can find same.
  21. I ran into this problem when changing the intro music to a german ss march.I used google to search the web with mp3 to wave conversion in the search box.Several freeware or testware converters out there.
  22. I just want to second Bone's observations.Playing vs my neighbor almost every night so this is player vs player in my experience.HQ's will pop up their heads before the squads under their command.Terrain hasn't seemed to make much difference in this.I'm constantly on the lookout for these HQ's that have an aversion to their face in the dirt.Mostly(depending on what else is going on)I cancel their target and re-hide or if need be sneak a small distance with a hide at the end.And yes CA's do help but it's not a good solution.Anyways just wanted to add in on this topic...
  23. Beta pics still up on the bfc home site.Didn't see what you might be talking bout. But there you go
