  1. I like/dislike these Gamey Tactics you have all taken time to write down. Let me add one of mine. Loading the Royal Marines on to transports before Italy is active and park it off the coast of Sicily. If Italy declares war at the end of an Axis turn, the Marines then unload on the island and take the undefended Factory and port. Used with a Combined French/English Fleet attacking/ambushing Italian Navy grouped near Taranto, it can mean bad news for the Axis in the med.

  3. I'm curious to find out what is considered a "GAMEY" tactic, by u the people who play this game. What are they to you, the Gamer? Or not, as the case may be. :confused: BY not using Gamey tactics do u believe the "fun element is increased/decreased or is the "historic Flavor" increased/decreased? Do you feel Honor bound to force others into ur belief or are u willing to cut some slack and just play the game as is, if opponent does not agree with you? :mad: Have u stopped playing the Computer cuz it uses Gamey tactics? Feel free to answer any and all of the above.   4. A few ideas, MMP's for Liberation of nations. Partisans for Spain, Turkey, Greece, Sweden, France, Switzerland. Improved anti-air defense for Ground units. Hidden Strenght of enemy unit at all times.
  5. This game favors the Aggessor. Looting neutral nations is part of the game, and as the Allies any country not already Conquered by the Axis is up for grabs by the Allies. As a military strategem the Iberian Pennisula could be a way of getting an edge on the Axis. So why not go for it. The Axis have free Reign in the beginning and noone complains, cuz their NAZI's. But in a game like this, there is no right or wrong, only the law of rules and compromise of players looking for a honorable duel. __________________ Courage is fear singing a hymn arranged for four voices.   6. I luv those Rockets. Protect them from Airstrikes and they are your WonderWeapons. Very mean, Very Deadly. My active Pbem opponent and i try to Spread out the Tech Points among the many tech options. We are currently going to try a limit of 1 point bought in year39, and 2 points a year til year43, and 1 in 44, for Germany. And 2 per year for Italy and all Allied powers except the USA which is allowed to buy however it wants.
  7. The opponent i currently play by Email just surrendered as the allies in Oct. 42. Germany invaded Russia the turn after "Russia Prepares for War". While the Italians were busy Making the Med an Italian Lake. Greece, Yugo, Spain, Portugal, Vichy, Egypt, Iraq all eventual Italian Conquests. Tech wise the Axis powers Were doing Great, 10 scientists for Germany, 8 for Italy working round the clock. I let the Allies land in France, Then pounded them unmercifully, unleashed the Navy into the Atlantic, all the while Grinding away in the East with level 13 tanks, Infantry and Rockets. 7 German HQ's and all Italian HQ. The Allled player fought himself unable to reinforce exsisting formations as quickly as the axis. But more impotantly unable to buy new units. After a while as the Axis, i just stopped buying units for Germany. It all seems like a Axis Dream Scenario. We have switched sides, with 1 change, USA random instead of Historical. The rest Random. We agree that the Axis are overpowered. We are planing some House Rules to Play with, Like Boardgames have. The Aggessor gets loot, The Liberator gets Squat. Maybe some loot for the Liberator could be implemented. And a Mulberry type Unit for the Allies to place a port on some Atlantic coastal area. Still a nice Game to play if you are the Axis, and feeling depressed. Or the Allies and what to be Humbled.
  8. First Wargame was Playing War with neighborhood kids. We Made rules, brought our own playguns, threw "dirtclods", used Trashcanlids & sticks for Hand to Hand, and grew in size to around 20+. My Dad taught me how to play chess during this time. Played Risk. During High School found the Chess and Wargame club. Run by our Math Teacher. Battle for Midway was First Wargame. Then Afrika Korps, Then SPI games... Joined US ARMY and found like minded wargamers in all units served at, played Fulda Gap, Anzio and Squad Leader in the Wildflecken, Germany. Still continue to play Board Games with Group on weekends, and of course SC on the computer. Also V4V series, WiR, Pacific War, Vietnam by HPS, Century of War. I'm Retired so have lots of time.   9. If you plan to invade Iraq as the Allies, bring along a HQ for supply. Also be prepared to see the Axis feed in replacements if u don't take it out the first try, or the second, or well u get the idea. Another added plus to Taking Iraq is the ability to send Uk forces into the Soviet Union when war is declared with the Axis. Having a BEF/Air in Russia holding Rostov and the Kuban can mean more soviets in other areas. And if the Brits get hammered and the Flank turned, Blame Chruchill.
  10. Greetings, After playing SC for the past few weeks both solo and Pbem, I have some observations i'd like to share. Some if not all have been brought up before now. But then why not rehash it all again. I'll start with, The USA: Needs more production to start with. Having to buy and ship a unit from America can be cost prohibitve. Eample, Buy 1 Strat Bomber cost 500mmp, then tack on transporting cost at tech level 0, 50 more mmp total 550mmp. Then add the number of turns to acquire it for production 180 a turn for 3 turns 540mmp. 1 turn to ship/Operate to England. And ur almost ready. Hey but 1 bomber does not make an 8th Army Air Force. This makes building a Strategic Bomber Fleet of just 3 units 1650 mmp and 10 turns to prodce and ship. Wait there is more, cause i like fighters for escort/interception duty so lets add to that 2 fighters 880 mmp, thats another 5 turns, and a Hq to command them say General Clark 420+40 a total of 2990mmp + 19 turns to base out of UK. Now as America Historical entry u are looking at late 42 before this Air Force command is working at peak. This is an extreme example tho. No Allied player is going to wait this long or build these units except me. During that same time the Axis are bringing in upwards of 500mmp a turn and scientists are developing Victory weapons. Granted i have a soft spot for the Arsenal of Democracy so any increase in Production would be of great help. But i'd like to see the USA start with the following units in addition to the current units. 1 carrier, 2 crusiers, 1 sub, 1 HQ, 1 Tank, 1 Bomber. It may not be "historical" but it would make the USA a threat the Axis have to take seriously. One other topic i'd like to touch on is unit limits. My doctrine is to build 1 HQ for every 5 land/air units built. And garrison Korps for cities and resources that need guarding. It works for me and keeps a certain pressure to play and have fun. My favorite Order of Battle is, 1 HQ 1 Armor 1 Air Fleet 3 Infantry Armies Of course there are many combinations depending in the situations. example England early in the War. 1 HQ and 1 Bomber, 4 Fighters.   12. Greeting, My experience with PBEM games and the sending of files over a hotmail account, is to use WinZip. When Zipped the chance of loading the files and playing without problems is greatly incresed. Good Luck
