I have gathered from some threads that MG's can fire indirectly like MTR's? Does this mean they can shoot targets out of their LOS if directed by a leader with LOS? What about interdicting terrain? Can they somehow shoot over it as can MTR's? Can they be directed via radio over distance?
A clear explanation of this would be WONDERFUL...
Thanks!

I'm a bit confused about how to use the weaponry on Jeeps and some halftracks?
Do you have to dismount and acquire the weapons to use them? For example, a Jeep with a MTR, you appear to have dismount to use. And you have to acquire the ammo, but I guess the MTR comes along with the dismount?
However, a Jeep w/MMG... I dismounted but no MMG came with... There were many types of ammo, but I had no idea what was for the MMG and what to acquire? In this case, can you fire the MMG for the Jeep w/out dismount?
What about Halftracks with MG's or MTRs? How can you tell when they are meant to be used by infantry once offloaded? OR used as onboard weaponry? Do you need a mounted squad to acquire them for use? Or can the dismounting crew use them? Do you only acquire ammo and the weaponry comes with the dismount automatically?
I know... Lots of jumbled questions... perhaps someone can just come up with the succint yet comprehensive explanation of the mechanics of this.
Thanks!

I just wish they would all come out faster! I'm actually a little sickened that we're looking at 2+ years to get the whole shebang together....
I would like to see a 4 month or 3 release per yer schedule so we can get it all in 2 years max. I don't know if it's a programming, art, scenario design/playtest issue or simply marketing and maximizing profitability that put it's on such a very SLOW release schedule...

ASL is just sooooo much more developed that CMBN is... maybe in 3-5 years when all of the theaters of war have come out and user made scenario's and campaigns reach a mature state is made just touch where ASL now.
However, it is true that CM has the advantage of solo play vs the AI, easier and faster PBEM, and fog of war. I am excited to try ASL via VASSL however, should I ever find the time...
-
I know a lot of Combat Mission players are former ASL'ers... But does anyone do both?
I personally am thinking about getting back into ASL but I have no intention of dropping Combat Mission. My issue, as likely everyone's, is the time to do both, and work.. live, etc...
I have found CMBN, especially with PBEM, to be amenable to a complicated schedule. ASL not so much especially if you only to ftf. However, with the new fangled VASL, I'm thinking it might be possible to have my cake and eat it too...
Just wondering if anyone has managed to pull this feat off?

5 of 6 are using PBEM w/ dropbox... love it

I hope you would reconsider. Certainly the tournament is not irretrievably damaged beyond the first turn. There are 31 other well behaved players who I think would love to continue.

I'm a US player in the first round of a 16 player elimination tournament. (spoilers deleted)
Are you really so stupid that you don't realize your giving enormous spoilers to an IN PROGRESS tournament with 31 other players?

This is a fascinating conversation! I have sadly little to add as I've only played on tiny or small... Can't buy much.
But I have noticed that I seem to overwhelm the defenders by sheer numbers....

Looks like this one is on tactics... great stuff!!!

Once you get there you can tell the difference. I am playing Huzzar! with a friend. That scenario, at least for the Americans, has touch objectives and occupy objectives. Once you get to a touch objective you get a notice on screen (and a sound) that you have satisfied it and the green highlighting on the map goes away.
So, even though Bimmer is not commenting, and given the fact that I have no clue either, you are now armed with the information to figure it out yourself once one of your teams arrives at an objective.
Or you just provided information he was deliberately trying not to...

I'm in... esprcorn@yahoo.com
Will you be encouraging use of dropbox and H2HH? Or is that just between the players?

I think this is a great idea... there are several ongoing tournaments on 'A Few Good Men' but they've all started and are full. We need one for the rest of us!
-
I'm presently playing with members of both A Few Good Men and Band of Brothers. All my opponents have been very pleasant and engaging thus far. Multiplayer is definitely the way to go, though it certainly takes much longer.
-
I have had mixed success 'adjusting' fire... On one occasion it was deadly accurate. On another, it definitely seemed like starting from zero.

What do you guys think?

Has there been any talk of new or improved terrain features?

Yes, you can and always do target specific floors. Eg. if it's a 4 story building and your tank targets the 2nd floor, most of the fire will be hitting the 2nd floor and it's also where the walls take most damage. But some of the MG bursts will stray to neighbouring floors, and HE has an effect on surroundings too, so enemies in 3rd and ground floor would at least be suppressed and possible take casualties.
I have never been given the option to target a floor. Perhaps it's only with Guns and Tanks.

Doesn't seem like it... How does it work? Specifically when you don't have LOS on an enemy combatants.
-
Right your teams cannot see the HMGs because there are no windows. Doesn't that seem right? Or were you just sharing your frustration of finding out you can flank them but cannot hit them.
I guess I was just surprised. I have to give my opponent credit for noticing it and using it as a strong point. I'm going to get massacred trying to get a shot on it...
-
An opponent of mine has 2 HMG's in the 2nd Floor of the rear of two adjacent buildings. I maneuvered 2 squads to either side of it but none have LOS. Is this because the sides of the building have no apparent windows?? I just noticed that this particular building is the only one that seems to be this way.

When you call for a ceasefire, does your opponent get notified on their turn that you've offered a ceasefire? Or must you communicate it via email?
-
Turn file names should ideally have the same name as the dropbox folder for it to work 'automatically'... If not you have to 'point' H2HH to the correct dropbox folder.
Non alphabetic characters make H2HH unhappy...

I know that quick battles can rapidly become very unbalanced if there are not some kind of agreements/understandings made ahead of time.
What are some of those? I have commonly heard of no prep artillery barrages in known setup zones....
How about force mixes? What's a good 'understanding' as far a choosing your forces so that it works out fairly? I'm interested in doing a primarily infantry with a little armor support... Is it enough to simply agree to that?
Any advice is appreciated...

Are snipers invisible?

So I've got a few squads crossing a field and they're taking a casualty here and there and getting rattled, but they can't see a thing. Not so much as a sound contact... Sniper?
