  1. They don't have rifle grenades? The No68 was retired by '44, but I believe they still could fire Mills grenades with the discharger and a detachable thingie fitted in the butt of the grenade. Don't they have this in the game?

Although this shows WW1 No. 1 MkIII* Lee Enfield Wire Wrapped Grenade Rifles being used, the same discharger cups were also used in WWII....

This is some fun video, which I thought many of our members and other collectors here would enjoy. It shows some of our MILSURPS.COM members engaged in The Great Canadian Tennis Ball Challenge competitive match, using WW1 Enfield Wire Wrapped Grenade Rifles (click here), just one of the historical entries found in the United Kingdom - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here).

  2. Yeah they seem exposed.

I've always wondered why CMBN dosn't allow driver hatches open - was that unusual in a combat situation?

    In an M4 Sherman... yes ... :D

It was SOP for driver and co-driver (bow gunner) hatches to be closed if turret was running free and particularly with PT motor unlocked and running.

A good way to accidentally lose one's head .... ;)

  3. Infantry Weapons and their Effects (WWII and Korean era U.S. Training Films)

"Infantry Weapons and Their Effects" is an official WWII era training film which demonstrates the use of standard issue U.S. infantry weapons and their effects on various targets. This is a really interesting and unusual video. See rifles, pistols & heavy machine guns shoot into & through steel German helmets, concrete walls, 12 inch tree trunks, & more. Part 2 was produced in 1953 and focuses on U.S. PISTOL CALIBER .45, SUBMACHINE GUN CALIBER .45, U.S. CARBINE, CALIBER .30. MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS, OPERATION, AND USE IN COMBAT.

  4. Hi Sarge .. :)

Sorry for piggybacking on your thread, but I wasn't having much luck in the "Opponent Finder Forum" ... :D

Looking for a CMBN 1.10 Commonwealth opponent ....

I use GreenAsJade's excellent Head to Head add-on program wit DropBox for tracking turns and I prefer opponents with the same set-up.

I have a bias for playing the German side and enjoy large/huge map sizes with lots of maneuver room.

If anyone would like to give it a try, please contact me at badger@milsurps.com

    Thanks…

  5. The golden rule of real world RECCE troops was to "See without being Seen" using "Sneak and PeeK" tactics .... ;)

I certainly wasn't "cannon fodder" when I was tasked to RECCE Troop as part of my M4 CC training ... :D

At various times, we trained with Bren Gun Carriers, Feret Scout Car and finally M51 pattern jeeps with .30 Browning MG's mounted on pillar posts and wire cutters fixed to front bumper.

Most of the time we dismounted "turret down" style and went ahead on foot to get a good look with binos.

  6. * The yellow color used on the regular Cover Arc is too opaque. It's difficult to read the underlying terrain. Ditto for the Setup Zones- which can't be turned off.

    Yes !!! ... :D

    This drives me crazy ....

Often I have to turn OFF the covered arcs, just to see the ground and if you add more covered arcs with various move points, they layer on top of each other and make it even worse.

At least there should be an ALT key capability to toggle them off momentarily while you examine the ground underneath them ... ;)

  8. It has sound when I watch it.

I assume the Fireflys were yours?

    No, I was the Panther ... :D

Incredible piece of gunnery with the optics and equipment contemporary to that period. Does everyone else experience this level of speed of target acquisition and then first round accuracy within CBMN?

I hear sound from other YouTube videos, but not from this one, but I have no idea why. I have sound locally with the same file, so there must be some setting in YouTube that I have to address, but that wouldn't explain why I hear all other YouTube videos except some of the CBMN based video files....

    Thanks for the feedback ..

    Regards,

    Doug

  9. Panther sitting at 871 meters...

First Firefly was a one-shot-one-kill as well, followed by three more direct hits one after the other ...

The second Firefly in this video is also a first round hit, followed by two misses...

Sorry for the poor video. I haven't figured out how to show HD video on here so that it streams in real time with buffering, so I had to upload to YouTube. They in-turn re-size and compress the video so it's fuzzier than the original recording I have, but I think it's good enough so everyone gets the idea...

Click FULL SCREEN box in player to get a better look ....

I'm not sure why there's no sound, as original upload had sound.. anyone know?

    Regards,

    Doug

  10. Not necessarily. The turret has optics used for spotting stuff at a distance, not 30 meters away. CMBN simulates field of view and magnification, and it is entirely possible to miss something 30 m away. Take a pair of zoom binoculars and try it out for yourself ;)

    I concur ...

Tanks aren't built to fight in close quarters ...

In a hatches closed M4, you can't see much of anything within that range, through the driver's, co-driver's periscopes etc, or the CC's cupola glass. It is better directly to the front, but almost useless out to the sides.

It's an awful feeling to try to maneuver closed down on tight ground, when your peripheral and short range vision is so hampered.

    Regards,

    Doug
