Hi, BadgerDog
As i promised i have just posted on the repository 3 maps for tank testing. In the zip file you'll find also 2 Qb maps.
All you have to do is to place them in your qb folder.
Thank you ..
I'll watch for them ...

This got plenty of attention and I considered it a major issue, and it has been addressed in the up coming patch.
Thank you... appreciate the feedback and clarification ...

This, too was discovered. Also one QB Map was made improperly (yes...shame on me) Hopefully the next patch will fix this issue.
Thanks ...
Pretty well makes playing QB's useless...
How is everyone dealing with this bug? Seems like a major issue that hasn't got much coverage, so there must be a something I'm not understanding?

Cool - thought you might have taken the Shermans?
I'm not sure how I ended up with that side, but my playing partner had sent it to me.

Doug

Cheers buddy Glad ya liked it. What side you play, if you don't mind me asking?
German side .... attacking ...

I've said it before, but I'll say it again ...
This is the best add-on ever to happen to CM gaming ....
It makes handling a playing any match against PBEM opponent(s) really easy and you don't miss turns. I'm on a MacBook Pro and my PBEM partner is on a Windows 7 PC, but it's really transparent and the chat function is a great bonus!
This capability should be built into CM products ....
Thanks for your team's work GreenAsJade ....

Doug

Really enjoyed this scenario with HtH PBEM partner ....
One of the best I've played in CMBN and the map detail is terrific ..
Thanks George ...

I have had exactly the same bug playing a QB solo against the computer, so I don’t think it is specific to cross-platform games.
Yup... I just tested it with a QB "Meeting" match against the computer and it dumps both sides on top of each other outside the setup zone for either.
I don't think it has anything to do with different computing platforms.

If you don't mind waiting, i will try this this week-end and if it works i will send it to you.
Thanks...
That would be fine .... appreciate it ..

Yes...
In the mean time try this work around fix: Do not allow/use the "Preview Map" function. You can always go into the editor/QB Map files and look at the map before agreeing to use it for a PBEM
Thanks, will try that ..
Hope BFC fixes it in the next release ... What a pain in the a$$...

Are you both on the same platform (Mac or PC)?
I'm on a Apple MacBook Pro and I believe he's on a PC platform ...

Here's the problem ....
My on-line playing partner and I have been using QB's, primarily meeting engagements. They've worked fine. We also did a Probe QB and it worked fine.
In the last few setups, we've been trying to get "assault" and "attack" QB's setup between us, but we seem to be having exactly the same problem of ending up on the wrong side, regardless of whether he creates a QB or I do.
What I mean is ...
He creates a QB selecting "assault" and setting the Germans as "attackers" and Allies as "defenders". He sends me the QB and I load it. It shows me as Germans and as "attacker", so I do a map preview, but it has my setup area with the objective "green area" enclosed within it.
Obviously, the objective "green area" shouldn't be within "attacker" side setup zone, so why is this happening?
I've also created an "assault" QB and set Germans as "attackers" and Allies as "defenders", but when gets it to setup, he sees the same problem?
Are we missing something obvious, or is there a hidden bug that we're not aware of?
Any feedback would be welcome ...

Doug

Just preordered Commonwealth module. Imagine the cd will look nice in the steel box
Yes, pre-ordered the day it was announced ...

Hey Ian - it's not just you. This is a problem we're currently looking into. As you note it's hard to reproduce.
Sgt Schultz - interesting. Thanks.
Don't know if this helps or not, but I'm on an Apple MacBook Pro (vintage 2009) with 8 Gb of memory and I've never seen the problem on this specific platform. Sounds like an internal caching (flush?) problem on specific hardware where disk writes aren't being completed, or a virtual disk memory issue on machines with lower levels of memory?
Anyway, thought I'd throw in two cents from an old Fortran mainframe programmer ... :D

I can provide you with my test map : 1000 m long and one regular Panther facing a Sherman.
That's very gracious of you... thank you ...
If there could be some hills between the two opposing vehicles (blocking sight), then I could also test various engagement distances?
I assume I can take the scenario and substitute starting positions and swap vehicle types?

Standing by, willing and able ...
Sorry, I'm not a programmer, computer buff or game designer, so I can't work with scenario design module myself...
I can however, participate and add an experience factor from an M4 point of view, if that's useful to anyone.
Regards,
Doug
Anyone help by providing a simple scenario where I can swap units and test the apparently disproportionate and perfect "first round" hits I've been experiencing?
Thanks ..
Regards,
Doug
-
First round hits 3 out of 30 - 10% chance to hit
Second round hits (if first was a miss) 14 out of 27 - 52% chance to hit
Well, I guess I can't complain then ...
Just in a QB with my gaming partner of many years.
In less than 1 minute looking through thick bocage with the cardboard insert of a toilet roll with vintage glass (that's what I remember) at 575 - 650 meters, I just got 3 first round hits on two of his tanks and an APC (all stationary), while traversing through 60-70 degrees to locate, estimate visual range, lay the gun and fire. I don't think he's happy, so he's welcome to post here to confirm it if he'd like to.
I couldn't do that on my best day, even sober ... and I've never seen a gunner any where do that, well except perhaps with an M1 Abrams.
Last replay was typical for me, so I think I'll let sleeping dogs lay and except my good fortune.
Sorry for upsetting everyone, it wasn't my intention.

Doug

I'm sure an intrepid tester can take a look. But if you can, or at least use your own experience to interpret someone else's data, it would be very valuable.

No offense, but opinions don't matter much. Data matters. Do you have some that can be compared against the game?
... sorry, I don't ...
Just my experience as a Sherman M4A2E8 gunner with hundreds of rounds fired stationary and moving at ranges from 500 to 3500 yards over 4 years.
I'd count on one hand the number of first round hits achieved and with optics that were identical, but perhaps bit better quality (early 50's) than what would have been available in the war. You do know that all range finding was by pure Kentucky windage guess and without the aid of any modern range finding?
Added to it, some of my closest friends who were my Crew Commanders from the 1st Hussars who fought and landed at Juno on D-Day would confirm that.
First rounds hits for me within the game are virtually all the time with a bracketing "over and under" sequence nonexistent, or at least I've never seen one. This was far more common than ever occurs in the game with second round hits the next most common. First round hits were so rare, they often caused a cheer to be raised across the range with instructors tipping their berets and a free round in the mess afterwards ...
I'll drop the subject as I don't want to disturb the fan club's view of reality ..
Having said that, I do enjoy CMBN as a game, which is all it is .... but a very good one that has kept a 65 year old veteran enjoying it for many years and assuming good health, I hope for many more years to come.

Doug

- Armoured vehicle’s shots and gun‘s shots are too accurate à too many “one shot, one kill”
In my opinion only having qualified as a Sherman M4 Group 3 class gunner, this is the worst design flaw I've seen which suspends realism and makes CMBN a little too "gamey" at present ...
Laying a Sherman gun through the sighting telescope, estimating range by guess and then getting first round hits virtuall all the time (many of them while moving), is simply not possible.
I've noticed that this same game design spills over into German tanks, although I have no first hand real life experience that I can comment on with them, as I've never fired one.

Doug, I could create a brighter one, don´t get me wrong, it doesn´t take me that long, PM me with your mail and I´ll see what can I do (Lord,...I didn´t learn to say no in this life ).
No, please .... that's ok ... very gracious of you to offer though ...
I'm fine with the 98% of everything of yours I've got loaded now ...
Again, appreciate your work immensely ....

Funny, some people mailed me about this grass being too....light and bright. The thing is, if I was to find the balance for everyone...I would be crazy in no time. I understand that not everyone has the ability to edit pictures in photoshop, but understand me, I could be uploading one version a day,...modify your Gamma Settings or wait until someone creates variants of this mod..,I am kind of fed up with it. Sorry.
No problem... again... beautiful work and we appreciate your efforts ..
I use almost all of your creative enhancements, so I'll just have to pass on this one.
Keep up the great add-ons ...

Aristotle for whatever reason, maybe my video card settings, or display, I found it a tad too dark. I had to adjust the tone and now it is really really good on my system. Another keeper.
I agree ...
Beautiful work, but way too dark for the stock settings on my MacBook Pro...
Would like to see much much lighter, but maintain the HD detail...

What is really annoying is the inability to instruct a Panzershrek team to fire ONLY at hard targets and not waste their ammo on a lone enemy "grunt" having lunch in the middle of a field ...
Completely unrealistic and easily fixable ...

Doug
