  1. Well... Hey JonS , you know the time when I tried to hang crap on you when I thought you had yer own copy of To Greece ?? (14 Nov) Well, you can return the favour - I found copies of To Benghazi and Greece, Crete and Syria in a Hobart bookshop over Xmas - and bought them. In fact I'm trying to make a battle out of Fort Pilastrino (Aus vs. Ita at Tobruk) right know.
  2. I was sorta hoping this thread would make it to page one again so I could qualify my earlier (somewhat hazy) remarks. IIRC the 6th Australia Div attack against Bardia in December 1940, was the first against heavily fortified troops (not just isolated outposts) resulting in the defeat of the Italians and a great number of prisoners taken. A set piece battle as it were, not just armoured cars scurrying around the desert. This is not to distract from the sterling work done at Beda Fromm by the Brits in early 1941. The defence of Tobruk by 9th Div was until relieved, 9 months later. Hmmm, doesn't resemble Dunkirk to me. The Japs were stopped at Kokoda by 39th AMF Bn, mostly by firing the 25 pounders (they had hauled thru the J) at point blank range at the Japs on the opposite ridge. Milne Bay was an attempt by the Japs to outflank the Kokoda position (actual names of the ridges escape me at the moment because the spelling is too complex for my alcohol addled brain). It was not until after Milne Bay that the Japanese advance was stopped. Apologies to 39th Bn for getting them mixed up with 2/32 bn, which was part of 9th Div IIRC. If anyone wants to debate this further, I am unable to do so for two weeks, as I am going on holiday over Christmas. However, I will be glad to start a new thread at that time to further extoll the virtues of the bronzed ANZAC. 'nuf sed.
  3. 2nd AIF: Bardia - first to defeat the Italians, Tobruk - first to defeat the Germans, Kokoda - first to defeat the Japanese. I mean, look at history, the 6th Division were the first to advance into Bardia. The 7th Division fought the Vichy French to standstill in Syria. And the Ninth Australia stopped the jerries at Tobruk. The chokkos 2/32nd bn defeated the Japs at Kokoda. [ December 11, 2003, 11:06 AM: Message edited by: ozi_digger ]
  4. Lopes in [*sniff*] Queenie's made it... Looks for somewhere comfortable to lie down... remembers what happened last time he lay down in front of the fire....[*wags tail*]... and leaves for a romp outside in the mud.
  5. Geez, aussie Jif yor bein' a bit harsh on the gnome fella. It was just 'onarary status, after all. But, I respect your judgment as an eldar. If 'e is jus' an ol' fart who carnt handle 'is piss, then wot good is he? Jus' a septic with too much time and too much money is wot I reckon. BTW Seeinayecat, were's my turn from yonks ago?
  6. Dear Kitty, Hey, my missus just walked a mile down the road to buy me more be beer while I played thru on the CMAK demo. Does that mean she luvs me or she's seein' anutha fella? luv, Ozi, (pet of the cesspool).
  7. I'm sure a lot of that is also urban myth . Not to degenerate from the wholesome battle record of the ghurkas though. I'm more interested in: 1. How does the Maori battalion do a haka in full view of their opponents and then charge over open ground with jade clubs? and 2. How do I kill vichy french without making them default axis ?
  8. Have been reading thru 4 pages of posts since getting back from the pub and I think that Seeinayecat fellow is piss funny. Godlike. ROTFLMOA. Hey Mace, aussie Jif and that other fellow can we make him an honourary Odstralian? He can swear and he's got a sense of humour. Got my vote. Hey aussie Jif are you schitzo or something? I see your posts and then the next post is you answering yerself. Weird. Have a beer. Then we'll go piss on that lawn gnome, Queenie has in her front yard....
  9. I take it that this means household pet is now emasculated household pet? What's the phone number of that Bobbins bloke's doctor?
  10. Wanders in from rolling in the mud and acknowledgies Queenie with a wag of the tail... Thinks his name has been called out by Seeinayecat and romps over for a scratch behind the ear. What's wrong, don't you like muddy paws on your gnome outfit? Hmmm, don't like the look of that rolled-up newspaper.... Sniffs at water bowl... hmm, who put beer in here? Must'v'bin Mace. Slop, slop, slop. Itchy nads.... lies on side and spreads legs.... lick, lick, lick....

You are far better off grabbing a demo of a decent ftp client rather than trying to use your browser to download such a large file. Bulletproof worked for me, too. Thanks Pud. Thought it was a good idea to go to the pub last night while the demo took 6 hours to download. Good idea at the time, but am now suffering in the cold light of day. 12. Knock yerself out, mate. Saves me a bit of work. I don't believe you have your own copy of "To Greece"....
  13. Kingfish, I've found two 1:100000 maps (Murphy's Law sez every battle is fought at the join of two or more maps....) and McClymont (auth) Official History of NZ in the Second World War 1939-1945 Vol. II "To Greece" in the AWM. Text is five page description of battle and line map titled Germans Attack 21st Bn Above the Platamon Tunnel . Maps are of Platamon area. Will scan and send text on Friday afternoon AEST. I've ordered copies of maps from AWM and they should be available on Saturday AEST.
  14. Thanks for the info fiaros . Dispels some of the myths that Greek units did not take part in the fighting. BTW, have you seen the post about 20 threads ago on the same subject: No Balkan or Aegean Stuff, Right?
  15. Bunkers come in various flavors. Even the Germans alone had about five major types that they built during the war. But you are generally correct. I know that at one point the US Army was using SP 155mm cannon as bunker busters to get through the Westwall. Michael </font>
  16. I for one would find it interesting to play Greeks vs. Eyeties. Sort of 'what if' the CW hadn't intervened and then neither had Germany... Not that I'm asking for it in the game, but it might be interesting in a cum-CMBB-minor-powers sort of way.
  17. Well I've finally upgraded to the 1.03 patch, so despite the warnings of Boo I've decided to pull my finger out and meet this [yawn] challenge from Seeineyedog. A setup is on its way lawngnome.
  18. Problem solved. Looked up previous CRC problems and realised I had a corrupt download. Solution: redownload patch.
  19. G'day boffins, I recently downloaded v1.01 patch for CMBB mail order version. When I tried to upgrade I got the following error message: CRC failed in Barbarossa to Berlin.exe CRC failed in BMP\104510.BMP etc. It also 'deletes' my .exe file. I then downloaded the cdv patch and it would not work, so I definately have the BF version. Any ideas on how to remedy the situation?
  20. ***Update II*** This project is on hold for another week. Technicians have not yet turned up to fix U/S scanner. Wait, out.
  21. I don't know him but can have a look into it.
