  1. Just a quick summary on the Gavrok (Allies)-Joe Grills game. France fell in double quick time (Jan40) to a very scary German attack, however 6 free french transited UK onto Stockholm in double quick time, knocking Sweden out for July 40. This was due to the Allied elimination of the total Axis fleet for Jan40. After Stckholm the French just couldn't resist Helsinki.....as just a quick dash over the water. Meanwhile German and British aircraft dueled over Denamrk for several months, until some carriers came along to vote for the good guys. Spain and Vichy North Africa decided to join Winston as well, and at this point Mr Grills threw his resources into Russia to liven things up. I'd like to thank Joe for his game as Axis, as he really showed me the best way to take apart France. I also learnt how strong tech 2 navies are as the Royal Navy kamikaze attach proved amazingly successful. All in all a game that didnt let up, thanks to an opponent who wouldnt stop rolling those dice. Bye G
  2. Jersey John/ Disorder Must agree with the opinion re a great scenario. Do believe the Axis can smash through France in record time..as my illustrious opponent Joe Grills showed me...I worried about this on initial set-up, and Grills initial onslaught confirmed my worst fears. I did evacuate asap to save something (probably made the downfall quicker) and now my Free French have turned into a Scandinavian force to be reckoned with. Axis can be fooled re their navy strength due to it's increase in size...as against Royal Navy with tech 2 it becomes very vulnerable! The whole game seems to be on amphetamines with the speed events are progressing! The only imbalance I see in the tournament is since we're newish there's more of a burden trying to keep the Axis momentum going, as is needed. I would suggest that for any further tourney play new scenarios such as these are used to keep it fresh and put everyone on an equal footing. I relish the fact that I've not tried this one yet (no WW1 though please as it just doesnt work with this system) Have Russia/ USA been modified for this scenario? Thanks All Gavrok
  3. Gavrok-Joe Grills game (Sep40) Joe (Axis) kicked me out of France in double quick time(Mar40) and Greece (Jan40)and threw in a killer versus Vichy, Switzerland and Denmark. Total land domination of the continent. Allies have kept Vichy going in Algeria , and removed all Axis presence from North Africa. Norway has successfully defended and with the aid of our Free French comrades has taken Sweden. Wehrmacht rules on land and RN in the sea. German scientists have been busy in the air.
  4. Disorder I must bemoan my lot having looked at you and Terry's AAR. My opponent Joe Grills has been very agressive, taking low countries in turn 2, declaring war on Norway, and knocking on the gates of Athens as I speak. The guy is rabid, attacking me all over the board. You'd think we were at war! Come on Joe.......I'm sure we can discuss this like 2 grown men with funny moustaches, bowler hats, and funny waves. I'm getting nervous about opening up each subsequent e-mail.......to see what fresh atrocity the Axis Joe BBQ is preparing. Think Joe got mad and attacked when I suggested we use the UN to discuss Poland! Where's your 2nd resolution Joe? Gavrok
  5. Looks like I've missed the boat on this one by one......if not please sign me up .....e-mail is in the profile Cheers
  6. To echo everyone else brill game (as indicated by the forum points) 3 improvements 1) Strength of Tank/ Jet aircraft (obvious one) 2) Ability of amphibous landings to only land/ assault in the current/turn after embarking from port. This would mean that they can only land within 1 range of a friendly port...and stop (silly) invasion of Canada/ America. This would make ports very strategic jump-off points.....exception around american units would be needed. 3)resource multiplier/ force pool limits (even in scenario creator) No parachutes please...this is a strategic game and the speed with which it is played adds to the fun.....a chess clock or timer would be appreciated Music wise has to be 1) Julian Cope 2) Underworld 3) Cure
  7. Could you put in 2 wins for Terif Terif (100) allies beat Gavrok (rather easily) Terif axis beat allies(300) Good experience for me
  8. Hate to repeat what has been said before....but: The only 2 things I would change are the weightings around aircraft and tanks. I hate seeing players buying fleet upon fleet of aircraft but realise it is fully a symptom of the owerpowering air. If there was a ready answer here such as AA tech for units it wouldn't be such an issue. Similarly tanks need a little strengthening for later in the war to ensure ground tech focus is mainly, but not solely on AT. Got to congratulate Hubert on a brilliant strategic game. Think the strategic level has been spot on, and I for one am glad that the units have not gone too low (eg parachuters) This is a great game and doesn't have to have the ability to recreate every operational nuance of WW2. The level allows for (relatively) quick games, without the need to pour over options for each individual unit! PS Actually 2 other change would be great: 1) the economic weighting of USA/ USSR increasing throughout war. Thye do have paltry totals, dont they. 2) Allow amphibous assualts only within a few hexes/ (supply points) of an owned port to stop invasions of Canada/ USA, and allow for strategic neccessity of capturing jump-off ports. Bye Gavrok
  9. Hombrre Plin (Allies) beat Gavrok with a bid of 150 First expereince of LC gambit Totally unprepared
  10. Liam (Axis) beat Gavrok (bid 180) Steep learning curve for me but hopefully progressing
  11. Gavrok (Allies) lost to Liam with a bid of 160. Total French mere defence but thanks to LIam for a good demo of how to break them quick
  12. Hi Zapp Could you list me into the ladder. Seems to be the best way to get an opponent so thanks for setting up. Gavrok
  13. Thanks for the info Kingfish. Hope you're progressing better than I was. Bye
  14. I am currently in the RD tournament stage 2. Can anyone reply with the web-site or Cyberfox'x details as my home computer has gone down the tubes and so I'll need to forfeit my games (was seriously losing anyway!!
  15. Thanks for the advice. Still curious to know; 1) Does anyone do suicide attacks with the French fleet on the Italians/ or it considered best to send it north or to sell it? 2) if the French fleet is not destroyed/ sold does it become free french if the axis attack Vichy 3)Does the fleet become German if the Allies attack Vichy Thanks Gavrok
  16. Anyone got a decent strategy with the French navy. I initially used these as suicide units to knock the Italians down a bit, thus aiding my Brits in the Med. However having re-read a bit of the manual in advance of my current game I thought it may be possible to move the navy into British ports and keep it. As you'll be aware this doesn't happen so ended up with the Brit fleet out of position and no French support. Result = one powerful Italian fleet which got experience by continually shorebombarding Malta and knocked the Brits about. 1) French fleet thoughts welcome, eg attack Italians/ Germans/ sell/ let go free french 2) How do you stop the Italian fleet building up experience by attacking Malta 3)What happens if the Allies attack Vichy France? Germany hasn't done it in my game? What benefit does it give Germany to take Vichy Thanks
  17. Thanks Hubert Was wondering where the tcp/ip folder was after the first reply Gavrok
  18. I am playing a PBEM however believ that some nights we may speed this game up by playing TCP/IP. However if I go into Load TCPIP I cannot find the file, even after copying the file over into 'save' from 'pbem' Any suggestions on alternating a game between the 2 types. Thanks Gavrok
  19. Thanks for the info . Just after I posted the query I found the site to order it....typical of me! Best Regards Gavrok
  20. Thanks for the info . Just after I posted the query I found the site to order it....typical of me! Best Regards Gavrok
  21. Looked through the usual outlets and even Amazon, but cannot find a way to purchase this game in the UK......ended up in ild goose chase and pre-ordering Hearts of Iron for release in UK for Feb Any suggestions from UK players. Thanks Gavrok
  22. Are there any sites out there to sign up to ladder type games for CMBB, both PBEM and IP games. Realise there are probably quite a few but any reccommendations for a new player. Do they come with aids to help us Luddites out with techy questions Thanks Gavrok
  23. Thanks for the advice. Although I got both CMBO and CMBB Im looking for scenarios for CMBO. Next question I guess is how to set up quick battles so each person in a PBEM can pick their own force, and what should point ratio be for attack/ defend. Thanks Gavrok
  24. Can anyone help. Looking for PBEM scenario for 2 new players to try out. Should not be in the Close Combat CD to ensure we are both new to it. Shouldn't be too big or lengthy (Max 25 turns) with an attacker defender. Some armour each but not over the top in this element. Ideally I'd like a scenario where each person could pick starting force when plays. Is this possible? Also saw a tournament scenario called 'Rugged Defence'. Anyone got a link to download. Thanks all Gavrok
  25. Ive downloaded some files from the link above for one of the successful battles, in order to do a bit of learning I dont know however how to open them up and watch the battle progress. Any pointers for the Luddite here? Thanks Gavrok
