  1. I play TCP/IP and Pbem. I play for fun. I play for the victory. If somebody constantly beats me in CM:BO he is a better player than I am. What counts is that if he is fun enough to be bothered to play with or not. I'm not sure about the bunch posting here ... -T
  2. It's impossible as the troops simply can't be made tough enough in the "tit-cheek" world of computer gaming . I think they require a bit more persuasion than that. If you have to send their heads to the widows just try to get the addresses right THIS time... -T
  3. Us Finns are nowhere near 8 foot on average. Try ten or eleven instead . But we lack the Krupp-steel chests that are standard for the SS . -T
  4. Some people seem to have some communicational problems. Post here if you don't receive the turns so that people will notice what's up... -T
  5. Not half as bad as many of the rest of us... Nice to hear that Kuma has decided to stay in terms with his neighbours (referring to my earlier comment to Schmegeg...). Keep the info coming lads. It seems that MOST of the games are actually getting somewhere. Argh, I'm bored. Time to stick some scrap metal and glass fragments into nice juicy apples. I'll prolly go and distribute them to schoolchildren later today . You'd better keep me interested in this topic or truly horrible events will take place . -T
  6. Sounds some extra work for me... How much the RoW guys are gettin' paid ??? I simply save them in a tournament format so people can't start a scen from the other side. I.e. the FK&C games won't give an option to start as allied player. You can only play as "axis". Or so I thought... Never tried to play one as a single player game though... I'll consider this and prolly ask some help from the RoW organizers if I decide to add security. As a boardgamer I have to trust to my opponets. If I pop in the loo they COULD move the counters. But they don't as they need to win or lose with style. That is the spirit of a wargame. If you cheat and win it does not feel any good. If you have the necessary skill and/or luck to pull it through you are one happy lad . "Hallo" is about maneuver. If you move into positions where you can concentrate much violence to small enemy occupied territory you get quick results. -T
  7. For such an excellent bloodshed we must thank mister Boyd and the "down unders". As we can all clearly see that one is by far beyond my meagre talent of scenario creation. Of a crushing defeat you should have seen MY performance with the "Rules of Engagement". I don't want to remember the score but the ratio was around 9:1. Now THAT was a defeat . Those entering the finals are lucky enough to participate in the mauling mentioned above . Hope your plan will work a bit better than mine ... -T
  8. Yes! Results! We need more results! Public cries out for results! Prices are going through the roof as we have an increasing demand for results! (Perhaps I should have added a deadline ) Ah, never mind. Play on the pace you can handle. Besides seeing the results here helps you to plan your action ... No news really. The third final scenario is under severe pondering and as soon as the quarrel settles you'll be informed. Keep up the good work lads! -T
  9. Just to keep you hungry two of the three scenarios for the final round have been selected: Title: Rules of Engagement Type: Meeting Engagement (British vs. Germans) Class: Semi-Historical Date: 2nd of August 1944 Location: Between Vire and Estry, France Time: Dusk Terrain: Damp Weather: Overcast Length: 30 turns Size: Medium As the American forces were finally achieving allied breakthrough during "Operation Cobra" British forces fought hard to draw as much German attention as possible. A new operation designated "Bluecoat" was launched in order to check the German armoured reinforcements as this would allow the American divisions to fully exploit possible breakthrough. Early on the British (VIII and XXX Corps) managed to tie down 21st Panzer Division and as the 9th SS Panzer Division "Hohenstaufen" arrived on the scene 2nd of August it was immediately committed against the British. Using cunning and dauntless tactics the Germans managed to halt the British advance. Still the British pushed on and the pressure on the front made it impossible for the Germans to pull out any of the committed divisions to participate in the operations aimed against the Americans. Title: Taking Ter Hole Type: Allied Advance (Polish vs. Germans) Class: Semi-Historical Date: 18th of September 1944 Location: Ter Hole, Netherlands Time: Dawn Terrain: Damp Weather: Overcast Length: 28 turns Size: Large In 4th of September 1944 the Allied forces captured Antwerpen. In order to gain use of this great port the area of Walcheren/Beveland had to be cleared from Germans. The First step taken on the task was the capture of the southern shores of Westerschelde. This task fell to Crerar's 1st Canadian Army which had performed very well on it's advance along the coast. The German resistance was toughest in the ports where they fought with determination usually managing to mine the harbor area and demolish the port equipment. This action was to be fought as part of the ill fated "Operation Market Garden" and while the paratroopers headed to the grim fighting ahead the Canadians moved against the coastal defenses. Between 4th Armoured Canadian Division (Major-General Foster) and 2nd Canadian Division (under Major-General Foulkes) dashed the 1st Polish Armoured Division (Major-General Maczek) facing the remains of the 712th Infantry Division (Generalleutnant Friedrich-Wilhelm Neumann). By dawn of 18th the Polish had advanced to the outskirts of a village where Germans hastily prepared defenses. As soon as both FK&Cs and the LFHB are played the six best players will continue to the 4D challenge. This will produce the best Allied and Axis player who are to be rewarded and respected for their efforts. -T [Edited as I forgot to explain what this all means] [ August 09, 2002, 06:16 AM: Message edited by: Traject0ry ]
  10. I'm not mad at anyone and I certainly hope that nobody is mad at me. The reason why I get serious from time to time is to show that I actually intend  to run this tourney. If things need to be commented upon I shall do so. Yes, I noticed the smilies. Your post was picked to show that INDEED we had agreed on no spoiler policy . I do have a sense of humour though and if this tourney will not satisfy it I'll wrap it up and head to Ibiza . Like I would . -T [Not edited as this too was an excuse to bump from page two]
  11. Being my first I wanted a small bunch of players. I was not short on scenarios though . I picked the Medium ones with reasonable length. Always the best choice. I wonder what on earth would a RoW safeguard be? I like to trust people but if it is not any extra trouble I could add that feature to my tourneys in the future. Yes, once again the deadline would have caused bailing in mid tourney and this format does not take it very well. If I should simply trust when people swear that they can play on the set pace that they'll actually manage it in the end it would surely be a grand mess. Nobody expects RL trouble yet next to everybody suffers some... That would be "Hallo 2nd Panzer"? I was incredibly lucky in my test run (for once in my life) and scored an allied major. It just left me filled with emptiness as the battle was over before the action actually began  . -T
  12. Wow, keep on playing until you got them all under the rug. Scenario unbalance does not affect the results as you know lad . I have this itch that sending the lollypop might cost more than acquiring one. E-mail your address in any case . Waiting eagerly for the final report. No pressure though. Play, enjoy and write as much/little you like afterwards. Cheers. -T
  13. Do NOT get TOO eager on the progress of the other lads . As they know their results are compared to yours in order to find out the finalists. You don't want to give too much info to the others as they are playing against you rather than the Axis lads... With the 100 Minutes this has produced some problems. It shall provide some more here but this time you have been warned. Some of the scenarios are built over "out of the bag" ideology giving perhaps fatally flawed info in the briefing. Such measures are in vain if people will join the rumour mill. As stated earlier this tourney is for you so you get to decide what it will be. I simply act as a pimp, gather results and send the prizes. If everybody here agrees you can post whatever you like. This far we have agreed on "no spoilers" policy though and the scenarios being what they are somebody could count situational reports as spoilers. I have E-mailed you progress forms and would be happy to receive them at scenario end. You NEED to post the results here and some people might get some info out of them. What it is might be hard to point out sometimes (some scenarios end as crushing victories to both sides and draws - how could you figure from such deviating results the correct form of action to take) and in some cases it could be rather misleading... Once again if you WANT to change things here or give me FEEDBACK use e-mail. I get too little feedback to draw any conclusions on anything these days. Perhaps Elvis was an alien  ...? -T
  14. Ahem, I can't say that we did not have a heated discussion on the format earlier. Boyd made his point in wanting a "round" based system where one game had to be finished before the other would start. This would actually eliminate the "spoiling" or "result providing" before each one had played the scenario in question. My idea (which I use as it is my bloody tourney ) was to provide everybody with enough opponents and scenarios to get the thing going on the pace best suited for them. Even today people do not complain about spoilers or other such things nearly as often as they do cry aloud about people not sending in their turns fast enough. To make things as comfy as possible I decided to give you all a bunch of opponents so that EVERYBODY gets to PLAY at least ONE GAME on the fastest pace they prefer best. While playing such a game the patience towards the slower progressing games tends to build up and instead of waiting for WEEKS before the next round starts each player gets to plan their progress themselves. Some guys have zero games left here. They can move along. Be sure that I'll inform you how things turned out in the end. I would VERY MUCH like to receive feedback on the format, fairness and overall execution of the tourney. As we are all adults, enjoy the game and are eager to grab the challenge ahead I feel that this whole effort has been worth it. If somebody feels otherwise just let me know. I'll send you a lollipop . -T
  15. Sergei will do . Nice to see that people are getting busy with posting. I was gone for a day and the thread got a brand new page. -T
  16. Okay, I'm not the German secret field police of the 40's but things get nasty if people completely miss the point made earlier. It seems by now that everybody has agreed not to spoil fun by stating any vehicle types, the numbers of units deployed etc. As we are all adults I hope that everyone will post here about things bugging them. No we have erased the spoiler problem with the expense of losing the possibility to comment the scenarios accurately. We shall get back to that when the "Vengeance of the LFHB" and my next project are launched. If they are launched that is . So hold your horses until every game of a scenario has been played and THEN my eager troopers you are free to comment them as you like! -T [Edited as I am allergic to nuts... ] [ August 08, 2002, 08:14 AM: Message edited by: Traject0ry ]
  17. Ah, I have to intervene on your otherwise nice argument by starting my own BUT - we have agreed not to reveal too much of the scenarios here. I'm sure MOST of you have already gotten "Mech" far enough but due to continuous replacements and delays some people might not be aware of the reinforcements (etc.) so no names or numbers please. Bragging and cockyness is allowed though . Nice to see that people are finding a proper use for this topic . -T
  18. No probs smope, just thought you mean something I said (happens rather often). For the rest of you it seems to be getting personal. Good. Just don't cross the line lads . Marko's vacation should end soon enough so he'll be heading home. All that lan -gaming and partying over here might cause some further delay on his turns though . The rest of you seem to get it going okay. -T
  19. Ahhh, much better. One day these will appear without my screaming and kicking . Status reports I mean . -T
  20. Just a quick reminder. You were supposed to send me filled progress reports at each game end. I just got one from Sripe but am still missing some. If the others like they can send them as well because it is a good way for me to track down deserting participants . -T
  21. I'll check that for you. Busy for now but prolly got time later today. I would appreciate if people would inform me at this point about lads who have not returned a single mail or who have failed to send set up. Keep me posted lads! -T
  22. What did I do THIS time ... No worries lad. If I'm kicked from BF I get a new personality. If that won't work I still got your e-mails. If I'm kicked from the internet it IS a bloody conspiracy . -T
