  1. The same happened to me. I sent two messages to the sales@battlefront.com and received no answer for two days. I sent a third message to Madmatt this time and received a cool answer after less than 5 minutes ! Do yourself a favor and send a message right to Madmatt. 2. I just came back home now and found all your answers.Thank you all for the answers and the explanations. That the impression I got after playing Yelnia Stare in particular . Well , I preordered the game last week...I hope that more surprises will arrive together with the CD. Gunnermoz and Silvio , you are so right ! I have a limited experience at aiming at tanks or other vehicles from my PC but from my personal and less limited experience ( not in front of a PC this time and some 20 years ago ) , I can assure you that in real life this is an other world...an other planet. The big difference is that in front of your PC you don't piss in your pant , don't shake , don't sweat ( maybe you do but certainly for different reasons ), and when you aim , the fire sight surprisingly stands still... and there is no "Save" button. 3. ******POSSIBLE SPOILER ***************** POSSIBLE SPOILER ***************POSSIBLE SPOILER * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * While playing CMBO , most of the time , I used to move my infantry in front of the armor , cleaning the way from some possible "tanks hunters" ambushes while the armor was moving behind , providing suppressing fire....life was beautiful. Life stopped to be beautiful after I installed the CMBB demo on my HD ! I played the Tutorial , enjoyed the Citadel scenario and then I began the Yelnia Stare battle...During the setup phase I watched all these Russian infantry troops and was expecting a beautiful scene of a huge human moving carpet cleaning the way for the six T- 34 up to the German positions, as usual. Piece of cake ! And then...surprise ! From turn one , I understood that "my" tactic that I loved to use in CMBO was not working like a magic potion anymore and in fact was not working at all. No , I am not complaining ! Quite the contrary , I find it quite challenging and above all very refreshing to find a new tactic suitable for the Russian conscripts of this scenario and it seems that now the armor has to move first and "clean" the way for the Russian conscripts infantry troops who move relatively far behind supplying the armor some suppressing fire to keep any possible "tank hunter" with the face near the ground. After I destroyed the 2 AT guns I moved ( hunt ) my armor toward the Russian flags and began to move my troops behind very slowly , most of them alternately firing toward the German positions while only two or three platoons running + hiding a few meters each time. When enough German troops were destroyed and their fire toward my Russian infantry began to lower I began to move my troops faster ( more advancing and less suppressing ) until they reached the German flags ( by the way I also played this scenario against the German AI by using only the armor without involving even a single Russian infantry unit and got a total victory quite quickly ) I understand that at this early stage of Barbarossa the German did not have Panzerfausts nor Panzerschrecks and the Panzerwurfmine used by their tank hunter teams in the Yelnia scenario do not seem ( at least in this scenario ) to match the threatening CMBO's Panzerfausts and Panzerscheks of 1944-1945. What happens is that once the 2 AT guns are destroyed ( and of course there is not German armor ) the Russian tanks ( again, in this scenario ) are moving quite freely in the field. My questions are : 1. How effective were the Panzerwurfmines in real life when used by veterans tank hunter's teams ( like in the scenario )? 2. Were there any other AT weapons used by the German infantry squads at this period ? 3. Does the relatively free movement that the Russian armor is enjoying in the Yelnia scenario ( supposing that there is no enemy tanks, AT guns or air force ) depict the real situation at this stage Barbarossa ? 4. I asked the same question in my following post : http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=000242
  5. Who is afraid of Yelnia ? I did about the same...Playing against the AI, I did not even move one single infantry troop ! From turn one I moved all my armor only , right to the victory Flags. I got the job done around turn 16 or 17 with 3 Russian flags on the victory locations and the computer was kind enough to give me a Major Victory at turn 20 with one tank killed and an other one with a gun damage. My whole infantry looked at the battle from the setup locations while drinking some cheap Vodka ( apart the poor unlucky comrades killed during the first turn by the German arty ) Well, some may call that gamey and others a legitimate technique but one thing is sure: such a technique is maybe very effective but it kills absolutely all the fun of the scenario At least I learned that some techniques unsuitable for CMBO ( I would not dare to advance my armor before my infantry in CMBO ) work like magic in CMBB. I just tried to use the " ] " with the locked view 1 and in fact it's even better than what I called "old view 1 "
  7. The only thing I am missing is the "first person view " of CMBO ( the old view 1 ). In CMBB when you are in in view 1 and "lock to a tank " you felt like looking from the commander shoulder or eyes but in CMBB you are behind the tank Am I missing something ? Does anybody know if it is possible to get this point of view in CMBB ? Khane
  8. What's the difference between the CMBB "Shoot&Scoot" order and the combination of "Hunt + Reverse" orders that I used in CMBO when for example I sent an armor vehicle to advance carefully to spot ,check for a few seconds what's over a hill and then reverse ? Thanks
  9. Hi, athkatla Try also "Any Port After a Storm " , the other mini campaign from the same author. An excellent way to train in very different kind of battles An other good way to learn is to play PBEM. Khane
  10. Great !!!! Thank you Rune and Schrullenhaft. It works like magic. Khane
  11. I am playing CM from September 2000 and since then I have changed once my CPU , once my Graphic card and once my OS and never had any major graphic problem until a few days ago when I got my new machine with Windows XP as a OS I got a new PCU ( 1.1 GHz AMD Athlon ) , 256 MB memory and my good old Leadtek Winfast GeForce2 MX card still installed. With my previous computer I was not able to play huge maps scenarios because of too long loading time and the games running like a slide show so I went on to try one the huge battle with my new machine. Bye-bye slide show ! The game is running fast and smoothly BUT the there is something wrong with the graphics ... 1. The screen is too dark ( monitor set on maximum brightness ). So I have set the Display Properties ( Setting/Advanced/Twin view/Color Correction ) with a very bright setting saved specially for playing Combat Mission. Nothing changed, the screen is still as dark as before. 2. the little flags on the interface ( DeanCo Gunmetal interface installed ) looks bad ( for example black stripes instead white stripes in the US little flag )and some letters are partially gone. 3. When I quit the battle and go back to the main screen I get the same messed up fonts as Canuck http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=8;t=002362 I have to quit CM completely and then return a second time to get normal fonts but still get a too dark and invariable screen's brightness 4. I have set the bright screen setting as default but when quit CM and go back to Window's Desktop the monitor looks as dark as the CM screen . That does not happens while quitting other games or applications ! All that never happened with my previous machine ( in which I had the same GeForce2 MX card ) Since that is also my first time with Windows XP I decided to install the latest NVidia drivers v. 28.32 for XP as suggested by some players .The install is automatic so I believe the new drivers are in.I rebooted the machine as required and ran CM....The same as before. No change at all ...nada.Same graphics , same problems and still totally impossible for me to change the brightness of the screen in CM ( for other games no problem ) Then I checked the details of my Leadtek GeForce Drivers in the Windows Control panel and what I saw is that : Leadtek / Driver Date 09.14.2001/ Version 2.1.8.3 .It looks like the previous drivers are still installed. No trace of the newly installed Nvidia drivers v. 28.32 for XP . One more thing , while installing the 28.32 NVidia drivers for XP ( I downloaded them from Nvidia web site ) there was a Windows warning :The software you are installing... blah blah blah.....has not passed Widows Logo...blah blah blah. I continued the installation. Has anybody an idea what could be the problem and how to solve it Thanks in advance Khane [ March 28, 2002, 06:53 AM: Message edited by: Khane ]
