  1. Juju, Not sure, but if guns were stabilized in WWII like today it would have been with hydraulics. Thus when the tank brewed up or was Ko'd, the hydraulic fluid would leak from the system. Probably didn't happen with every tank, but there is a good posibility that internal shrapnel would hit a line. Thus the infamous droopy tube.
  2. I just got back into the thread so caught all the hints during my catch up time.
  3. From my experience in the tanks, TC is the most important, followed by the gunner. I don't know in WWII tanks if the TC can fire the main gun or not. But in the event of the TC being injured another member would take the spot. Since I don't know about WWII SOP's I can't say for sure who it would be, I would guess either the loader or gunner. As for replacements, in Belton Cooper's book "Death Traps", the SOP was to keep crews together as much as possible. In the case of one crew member being killed there were individual replacements but generally looked to promote within the crew first and then fill up the less important position with an individual replacement.
  4. Das Reich, Is it Hans von Luck, Rommel's Reconnaisance commander.
  5. Sgt. Schultz, That is Creighton Abrams. Zee, Second one is Rommel. Still thinking about the others. [ August 12, 2002, 06:08 PM: Message edited by: Jwirry ]
  6. I'm sure Iron Duke was referring to the posts above yours where GD is being called an SS unit.
  7. Just curious and I don't know if this has been covered before. But what is the etiquette when playing someone for the first time in CMBO. I have all the rules for recon, 75 & 76 but haven't played anyone with them yet. But I have been playing without going full tilt after SS or Airborne troops. Is this naive? I understand if rules aren't agreed upon between the players then you are technically free to buy whatever. Just wanted to hear what others thought.
  8. Found a page with visual on what I was trying to explain formation Sorry I didn't do it as elloquantly,sp, as Moon.
  9. The tanks will receive their initial orientation based upon the direction of travel. The arcs will remain relative to the tank, since the terrain will be continuously moving. The change to relativity comes with contact, the platoon will conduct a contact drill. The spotting tank will focus in the area the enemy was/is located. The remainder of the platoon will orient in the general direction while still covering as much as they can. However, at any time during the attack the platoon leader can designate terrain he feels is important and assign a tank or a team to cover that area until passed or deemed safe. Hope that helps, I know it is hard to visualize without pictures.
  10. I just realized my first post does not address the original post. The tank that spots the enemy would remain oriented in that general direction because that is where his most dangerous opponent is. He could do this because his wingman would be covering the remainder of his territory.
  11. - Engieers should be able to be tasked to actively search for mines and clear a path through them (rather to clear them altogether)... this was actually achieved by special explosives (damn, forgot the name, but it can be seen in the "Private Ryan" film) You're thinking of bangalore torpedos.
  12. Since I have some experience with this I will try and give my two cents. You are talking about one tank and tanks very rarely fight by themselves. At the lowest they will fight as a pair, but usually as a platoon of four. Each tank will be given an arc on the clock, like fighter planes, to cover. Their gunners will continuously scan this arc until contact is made and then the platoon will react accordingly. I tried to put a wedge formation in the post but it didn't work, so I can't help you visualize this. [ March 22, 2002, 07:31 PM: Message edited by: Jwirry ]
  13. Just curious, where are some other sites where you can pick up opponents for mplayer games. Maybe it is just me, but it seems slow here lately. Any tips would be appreciated?
