  1. Let's release a patch sooner than later.....please
  2. Heany-Medium-Light-Smoke is for rate of fire Maximum-Long-Short-Quick is for number of rounds (i.e. duration) Maximum exhausts ammo supply. Manual page 81
  3. This claim is not validated by testing. I ordered a 81mm heavy-short-personnel barrage on a rooftop occupied by a 5-member squad. At the end of the barrage NO-ONE was left alive
  4. You mean arty of 81 or less calibre is ineffective against troops on rooftops? I need to test that.
  5. Is this for fact? I do not think so. I use to preemptively blast with anti-personnel shells rooftops and I believe it is effective
  6. I consider myself as possessing an average+ command of CMSF. However I wonder if anyone has tried Scenario n6 (Sound of Guns) of the Canadian Campaign. I would be very interested to discuss suggested approaches. For me I tend to believe that the wisest decision is to call it a day - accept an early defeat and preserve forces to fight another day.
  7. The key tactics are (1) area fire (2) on the hunt or assault waypoint in the room you are about to enter pre-order fire to the next room. This way you increase the chances of suppressing an ambush from the "room after the next room"
  8. check http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=94578
  9. IMHO shelling it with art is gamey. Not blowing it with a tank shell. Anyway...
  10. I have noticed that one is not allowed to shoot on a seemingly destroyed vehicle to eliminated the chance that it is a VBIED. The engine takes the order but then cancels it. This is a good feature in general because the AI stops further firing when a unit or a structure is destroyed, saving ammunition and reducing ... noise pollution. I wonder if however an exception could be scripted for VBIEDs in the spirit of IF DEAD TARGET IS NOT VBIED THEN CEASE FIRE. Your thoughts?
  11. One with your credentials ("Tiresias" was a soothsayer in ancient Greek Mythology) should know better than the rest of us...
  12. Hairy I usually read things "diagonally" trying to catch concepts which are new and original to me. I applied the same unfair treatment to jnt62006's blog :-) I pinpointed however two concepts which were eye opening revelations to me (as I have said i have no military background). Namely Avenues of Approach and Lines of sight (to those AoAs). Jnt62006 did a great job making me understand these two things. Who do I apply this knowledge to overwatch positions? Simple. Before establishing a high value asset there, I suppress (should I say...obliterate) the key points providing key Lines of Sight on this position. Thus i curtail the probabilities of an unexpected ATMG will be lunched at my asset.
  13. For me the "Mark mines" order is faded. I mean there is no order (as far as I am aware) to have the engineers look for mines in an area. A trick I did - and worked - is that I hit the bridge with a heavy artillery barrage and one round hit the mine (it was a huge one) which exploded. But this seems gamey
  14. Nobody has any idea on where ATGMs may be fired from? The answer may be obvious to all you with military background but not for me.
  15. OK I have a scenario where the map is cut into half by a river with single bridge joining the two sides. In the briefing it says "the bridge will most probably be IEDed or mined". What is the tactic to deal such an issue? Is it possible to disable or cause a controlled explosion of IEDs and mines with engineers or otherwise in CMSF?
  16. I read from the my great book of platitudes .... "war is continuation of politics by other means" In RL USA and even more Western European Countries do not entertain the idea of sending boys thousand of miles away from home and then returning in bodybags nor blowing away lives of local population. In contrast, the spirit in WWII was completely different. Everybody had a deep conviction that was fighting for his liberty, country and families and the shape of future world (fascism vs freedom) That is way I am 100% supportive of the casualty restriction in CMSF which IMHO pushes the player to employ more RL (in the context of modern warfare) operations as opposed to more "Patton-like" tactics which are perfectly apt to a full scale - no holds barred - war and of course to the CM2 Normandy. All in all it depends how one chooses to "play the game" P.S. I used to be a fan of CM1 and WWII but now i am fully for CMSF :-)
  17. Yes. Simply after treatment "red" guys disappear from the map - but never added back to the squad strength
  18. OK. Taking this into account, I think I will pause the German Campaign at the "Fields of Fire" mission until the next patch comes out. Based on scenario description I think I will need all the AT weapons I can get.
  19. Actually the key design purpose of firing arcs is exactly this one: to allow deadly ambushes at medium or close firing range without giving away positions from afar.
  20. I am not sure what is the problem you refer to. Is it the fact that there are no AT launchers in the AFVs to fire those AT rockets?
  21. IMHO this is not correct. I am now playing Miss 5 of the NATO-German Campaign which has a recon character. A recon team at a good position with a target arc extending to a limited range of only a couple of meters can spot everything. Hide does not seem to impair spotting ability (unless of course you are behind a wall where "hide" puts your heads under the wall)
  22. I have the following question. Is there a point in treating wounder soldiers during the game (other than collecting superior weapons)? When points are allocated at the end is the a difference between numbers of KIA and WIA?
  23. Actually at your side of the map its all roads! You can just move units from center to flanks in no time in this scenario. It is more important to decide how you prefer to proceed.
  24. *********SPOILERS*********** In said mission (2nd of German Campaign) I basically followed this approach: Tanks left far behind in overwatch positions. Almost all tank gun-shots were made at +1km distances. Then I decided to follow the slow and meticulous approach. Heavy suppressive fire to all multi-storey buildings and as well as to all buildings facing the direction of my approach. Troop carriers were sent next to suppressed building disembarking troops. Then troops moved in bounds trough the villages. The Result: I cleared all the right side of the map and the outskirts of the bigger town at the right...and of course i run out of time... Given that I had only 6 mean KIA or WIA and the enemy around 60% of its troops I got a tactical victory. However: In real life i guess a commander cannot shoot in advance at any building in sight. This will probably cause political repercussions and rightly so...
  25. Exactly.... The extract is from the following Newsweek article... http://www.newsweek.com/2011/01/03/can-you-build-a-better-brain.html "With apologies to the political-correctness police, nicotine enhances attention—that key driver of neuroplasticity—and cognitive performance in both smokers and nonsmokers, scientists at the National Institute on Drug Abuse reported in a 2010 analysis of 41 double-blind, placebo-controlled studies. Nicotine, they found, has “significant positive effects” on fine motor skills, the accuracy of short-term memory, some forms of attention, and working memory, among other basic cognitive skills. The improvements “likely represent true performance enhancement” and “beneficial cognitive effects.” The reason is that nicotine binds to the brain receptors for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine that are central players in cortical circuits."
