  1. Thanks for your input guys. Your suggestions were helpful. Searching by month and using the Space Bar in the Editor improved my ability to find some but not all of the units.

However, I have not had success locating the Grille. I did find a heavy infantry gun formation listed, as the sIG 33, but it does not say Grille, and it is not listed in the Editor as part of the Vehicle Pack. I was able to purchase it in the Editor but it does not show up in 3D View. Also the Flakpanzer 38(t) is not listed in the Editor as being part of the Vehicle Pack.

The effort required to locate all of the units included in the Vehicle Pack has really been ridiculous. Battlefront should include a location guide for each unit included in the Pack. Why this was omitted is a mystery. What were you guys thinking? This sort of frustration imposed on the customer will probably hurt future sales more than the price.

  2. I have spent over an hour going through the Editor looking for the Allied units included in the new Vehicle Pack, which has resulted in a high level of frustration. I haven't even attempted to find the Axis units yet.

I read the Vehicle Pack Manual, and had that open on my tablet as I went through the Editor trying to find the units listed in the Manual. Is there a better way to go about this?

Where is the Priest Kangaroo located? Where is the Sherman Crab?

Here are a few suggestions to reduce the frustration level of at least, this customer:

    1. Include the Vehicle Pack units locations in the Manual. List the Formations/Specialist Teams/Single Vehicles where they can be found within the Editor.

    2. Within the Editor list a designation next to each unit, which indicates which Base Game/Module/Pack with which they are associated. For example, units included with the Base Game would have no designation. Units that came with the Commonwealth Module would have a CW next to their names in the Editor. Units that came with Market Garden would have a MG next to their names, an units that came with the Vehicle Pack would have a VP next to their names.

    3. Include a Scenario file (*.btt) that has all of the new units on a map. This would allow the customer to load up the Vehicle Pack.btt as a Scenario and then be able to view all of the new units. This Scenario does not need any AI plans or a fancy map. Just the new units so that the player can look at them and get familiar with what is new.

  3. Sburke - you do appear to be quite misinformed about what is going on between Ukraine and Russia, and the motives of the U.S/NATO.

It is hard to believe that a lot of Americans still think that the information they get from mainstream media in the U.S. is accurate, factual or real. The reality is that anyone relying on mainstream media or the rhetoric of public officials to be informed on any topic, will sadly be misinformed instead.

Anyway, this Thread is not supposed to be about politics, so how about some updates on CM: Black Sea ChrisND? A video of Russian MBT's might get this Thread back on track.

  4. You identify the location of the enemy tanks with infantry. Then use smoke shells (from artillery or tanks) to obscure the Stugs visibility. While the enemy asset is "blind" maneuver your tanks into position to either area fire or direct fire into his position.

If you don't have smoke available, then maneuver one or more of your tanks into a hull-down position to fire on the enemy location that was identified by your infantry. Area fire may be enough to force the enemy vehicle to move, hopefully giving your tanks a better shot.

  5. I bet Michael Wittmann had similar feelings as his tank erupted into a fireball on Aug. 8, 1944 and propelled he and his crew into never-never land.

Tanks in open fields surrounded by woods, usually don't fair to well. Best to keep them hull-down and clear the wood line with infantry.

  6. Brazil lost to Germany in the World Cup.

Let's just call that an understatement. They didn't just lose, the host nation suffered a humiliation of epic proportions on the world stage. Brazil should have spent all that money on helping their people instead of football stadiums and the debacle that has unfolded.

    deutschland über alles !

    However, my condolences to Webwing.

Regarding updates ~ check out ChrisND's TwitchTV channel http://www.twitch.tv/chrisnd and his weekly Saturday shows. He tosses out quite a few bones about upcoming patches and projects.

  7. Anyway, it's something to do on a Sunday morning...

    Michael

Well Michael, you could take a stroll on the trails at Ft. Worden, go for a sail in the harbor, or maybe go down to the Co-Op and grind your own peanut butter. I have some more ideas if you need them.

  8. You guys should tune in to ChrisND's Twitchtv http://www.twitch.tv/chrisnd program at 14:00 PDT Saturday afternoons.

He tosses out all kinds of "tidbits" and "bones" for upcoming stuff during his gameplay.

My understanding is that the developers are working on game performance enhancements for the CMx2 engine, and that the patches/upgrades will not be rolled out until this is complete.

One tidbit regarding CM:BS is that SAMs will be present in the game. He also has an early alpha video of CM:BS on youtube

  9. The following is a post from Charles regarding CMSF, just to give you an idea of the kind of detail modeled. It would be great if Charles would post this type of data for the WWII games as well.

I thought you guys might find some of the inner working of CMSF interesting as it pertains to this thread, especially because it's been updated for v1.08. Here's how CMSF rates the following weapons for their ability to penetrate a typical CMSF building's outer wall at various ranges.

CMSF buildings are considered to be "medium" strength. They're not rickety old shacks but they're not stone or concrete bunkers either. Keep in mind that CMSF allows shots to go through windows and such in buildings too, so we're only looking at the chance to penetrate the building wall here.

You may notice that sometimes penetration is better at longer ranges. This is due to the "shatter gap" experienced by projectiles striking the target at especially high velocities.

    Weapon: AK-74

    Muzzle velocity (m/sec): 900

    Round: 5.45mm x 39

    Round Weight (g): 3.25

Chance to penetrate CMSF building: </font>

    • 0m: 4%</font>
    • 100m : 13%</font>
    • 200m : 0%</font>
    • 300m : 0%</font>
    • 400m : 0%</font>
    • 500m : 0%</font>
Notes: This round has a (sort-of) hollow point, and the front of its core is lead, not steel, so it penetrates less capably than it otherwise could.

    * * * * * * * * * *

    Weapon: AKM
    Muzzle velocity (m/sec): 710
    Round: 7.62mm x 39 (actual diameter is 7.9mm)
    Round Weight (g): 7.97
Chance to penetrate CMSF building: </font>
    • 0m: 31%</font>
    • 100m : 16%</font>
    • 200m : 0%</font>
    • 300m : 0%</font>
    • 400m : 0%</font>
    • 500m : 0%</font>

Notes: The 7.62x39 round used by the AKM is not a "standard" rifle bullet - it's smaller and lighter. It packs less punch than a typical WW2 rifle round, for example. It's much closer to the "kurz" ("short") round fired from the infamous German MP44 of WW2.

    * * * * * * * * * *

    Weapon: PKM

    Muzzle velocity (m/sec): 825

    Round: 7.62mm x 54R (actual diameter is 7.9mm)

    Round Weight (g): 9.58

Chance to penetrate CMSF building: </font>

    • 0m: 34%</font>
    • 100m : 41%</font>
    • 200m : 34%</font>
    • 300m : 24%</font>
    • 400m : 8%</font>
    • 500m : 0%</font>
Notes: Ah, now that's more like it. :D This was the standard Soviet rifle cartridge of WW2. It's the same diameter as the round from the AKM, but the PKM fires this one with a higher velocity, plus this round is heavier because it's longer. Higher velocity and greater mass hitting the same-sized target area yields greater penetration.

    * * * * * * * * * *

    Weapon: M4A1
    Muzzle velocity (m/sec): 905
    Round: 5.56mm x 45
    Round Weight (g): 4
Chance to penetrate CMSF building: </font>
    • 0m: 10%</font>
    • 100m : 0%</font>
    • 200m : 10%</font>
    • 300m : 0%</font>
    • 400m : 0%</font>
    • 500m : 0%</font>

Notes: A very high muzzle velocity and a heavier projectile (compared to that of the AK-74) suggest that penetration ought to be pretty decent at short range. However, the bullet is constructed such that it often shatters upon impact at high velocity, reducing the expected penetrative performance. There is a noticeable shatter gap too.

    * * * * * * * * * *

    Weapon: M240

    Muzzle velocity (m/sec): 853

    Round: 7.62mm x 51

    Round Weight (g): 9.56

Chance to penetrate CMSF building: </font>

    • 0m: 37%</font>
    • 100m : 44%</font>
    • 200m : 39%</font>
    • 300m : 33%</font>
    • 400m : 23%</font>
    • 500m : 8%</font>
Notes: Similar to the PKM, but with a little extra power from a higher muzzle velocity and a round that is essentially the same mass but has 7% less cross-sectional area.

    * * * * * * * * * *

    Weapon: M2
    Muzzle velocity (m/sec): 899
    Round: 12.7mm x 99 Mk211 AP-incendiary
    Round Weight (g): 43.48
Chance to penetrate CMSF building: </font>
    • 0m: 86%</font>
    • 100m : 81%</font>
    • 200m : 86%</font>
    • 300m : 82%</font>
    • 400m : 78%</font>
    • 500m : 74%</font>

Notes: Ma Deuce doesn't play around. ;)

    * * * * * * * * * *

    Weapon: KPV

    Muzzle velocity (m/sec): 1005

    Round: 14.5mm x 115 BZT

    Round Weight (g): 59.56

Chance to penetrate CMSF building: </font>

    • 0m: 100%</font>
    • 100m : 100%</font>
    • 200m : 96%</font>
    • 300m : 91%</font>
    • 400m : 87%</font>
    • 500m : 90%</font>

Notes: Ma Deuce's Russian cousin is even bigger and badder. ;)

  10. I'm mostly okay with it, but there are a couple of things that don't sit right with me. One is the color choice. I'd much prefer they stick with the colors on the field: brown for dead and red for seriously wounded. Using yellow for two different states is asking for confusion. I don't know how this one got past the play testers. The other thing is the word 'casualty' blazed across the sign. If ever there was a case of unnecessary redundancy, this is it. (Maybe keep this as a toggleable feature for the color blind though.) So, a good idea that needs more work.

    Michael

I like the feature, and agree with Michael that it should be modified in order to be consistent with the in-game colors.

The word casualty is not great and should be changed to reflect the actual status, i.e. KIA, Severely Wounded, Lightly Wounded, etc... Maybe have the wording available as a mouse-over.

  11. By the by, I received an e-mail this morning that my disk had shipped, so presumably by this weekend or early next week those of us who ordered disks should be getting them.

    Michael

I guess that antiquated "coaster" will come in handy when your nursemaid is done giving you a few sips of your daily prune juice, and wants to place it on your nightstand.

Other than that, I really can't think of a reason why you would want to contribute to global warming and have a CD shipped across the country.

  12. After studiously reading the Forums, carefully perusing the Manual, and laboriously absorbing the rantings and ravings of c3k (aka Ken) for every tidbit and morsel of information on how to best utilize the Soviet Army in 1944, and a bottle of Moskovskaya courage by my side; I finally felt like my lessons were learned and I was ready.

Ready to Attack as the Soviet Army was meant to attack. No pesky scouting, no deploying teams, no fancy maneuver, just plain old Attack. Attack with overwhelming numbers, keep the plan simple and get er done. So I proceeded to Attack.

Shortly thereafter I, Company Commander Polivanov +1, found myself with a bloodied, shaken, rattled and cowering mass of pixeltruppen scratching the earth amidst smoke, haze, and screams. This pathetic mass was additionally surrounded by the burning hulks of T-34's adding to their agony as internal stores cooked off.

Being that defeat was not an option (don't look behind you), I, Company Commander Polivanov picked myself up by my bootstraps and trotted up to the front line. Apparently word had filtered back of my 1941-style leadership, incompetence and gross negligence. No sooner had I reached my panicky frontline troops, when an IS-2 took me out with a 122mm round of friendly fire, leaving the rest of the HQ squad completely unharmed. CC Polivanov was no more.

And this was only the 3rd mission of the Tutorial Campaign..........for this veteran of CMSF, CMA, and CMBN. Back to the drawing board. :o
