  1. Wonder no more. It's nothing so nefarious - it was just me having second thoughts about posting copy written material to a public forum. Obviously I did it anyway. It's one thing to credit your source, another to rip the source off entirely. Further details will be handled in the confessional this weekend.
  2. Anyone tried them with CMBO yet? Risky night tonight - new Audigy and Dentonator drivers.
  3. It was probably the same issue that turned me on to CMBO - "100 Greatest Games of All Time." Which would also explain why our member numbers are relatively close. I'd never played any war games, but figured if it was as good and revolutionary as they said it was I should give it a shot. They were right. I played the demo for about an hour before ordering my copy.
  4. Not really a preview, but more of a "coming soon." Nothing we haven't heard before, but still mainstream press is kind of cool. I discovered CMBO through PC Gamer. [ August 28, 2002, 09:39 PM: Message edited by: murpes ]
  5. Or at least Game Spy support. While I prefer in-game browsers, GS does serve a useful purpose. I've wondered if we should petition GS for SMBO and CMBB support; is this really the player's role? Or is it something the developers should be doing? Or am I the only one that thinks it would be a good idea?
  6. I just posted a small snow mod the other day and Tanks a Lot just posted some stunning building mods. They've slowed down but are still coming.
  7. Sorry for the extreme delay - sometimes real life gets priority. Unfortunately. Here's a high res snow mod for Tom's Battle of the Bulge mod. Nothing fancy, just progressive white over a DD tile. The "plowed wheat" mod from ages ago has been abandoned, everything ended up looking like alien crop circles. Thanks!
  8. My initial reaction to things I don't understand is to be critical as well. But I don't post it.
  9. Jim Morrison's grave. Or The Cotton Club. Maybe Novell's corporate headquarters in Provo, UT. Or a brothel. My real guess is that there is a tile in front of that building that reads "Toynbee Idea in Kubrick's 2001. Resurrect Dead in Planet Jupiter."
  10. I love Tom's Battle of the Bulge mod; I think its one of the best ones out there. I was a little bummed that the snow tiles weren't high res, so I spent some of this weekend goofing around with one of DD's grass tiles and sticking snow on it. So this is a mod of a mod, done without permission: DD, you out there? Do you mind if I re-use on of your grass tiles?
  11. A partial list was recovered from Google and is forever archived in the Battlefront forums, a piece of literary wonder that ranks just below the Bible and right above Gene Simmon's autobiography.
  12. That's a tough call; it's really a matter of personal taste. There are some mods out there than many consider awesome and I think aren't all that, and the other way around I'm sure. The best advice is to try all that you can, and keep backing up your bmp folder as you go. You could also try a mod manager, but when I first discovered mods I found it a little overwhelming. If you haven't read Mad Mad's Mod Guide, start there! My favorite mods? DD's grass and terrain, Panzertruppen's buildings, and Tom's Battle of the Bulge mod.
  13. When I play the CMBO CD backwards I get Stairway to Heaven. Odd.
  14. One would think so, but this guy might disagree with that logic.
  15. Hate to steal your thunder, but I'm also working on a mod: Seriously, though, that looks fantastic. I hope you modders realize how much we appreciate the work you do. It's amazing how you can take something this much fun and make it even better.

  17. I have alot of pride in my abilities to curse with the best of them, but for the life of me I can't figure out what a sq***-up is.
  18. Damn right they're going in the wrong direction!Pls fix or do sumfink!</font>
  19. This is the sort of thing that happens when I can't find an opponent.
  20. Very cool indeed. It doesn't seem that far off to have animated textures as well - not just to reflect damage, but several textures that rotate all the time over any given object. You could have shimmering water, swaying grass, drifting clouds, waving flags, moving streams; the possibilities are endless. ....
  21. It's not too late - you can try to cancel your order and if not try going through your credit card company. Consider this post an intervention. My wife constantly complains because I come home from work and start playing CMBO. My "PC" is now my "CMBO console." My "internet connection" is actually a "mod download pipeline." When I drive around, I am either assessing the terrain for strategic positioning or wondering how I could model it in the editor. There is no support group to help me quit ... I don't want to and nobody else does either. I'm too far gone; my life is ruined. It's not too late for you. My only hope is that I can make a difference for somebody else - learn from my mistakes! The demo was the free one - the first one is always free. This is an addiction for which there is no cure.
  22. Madmatt's Mod Guide is an excellent place to start. He gets all the crucial ones in there. In addition to the MDMPs, my personal "must haves" are DD's grass, terrain, and trees. DD is the man. Panzertruppen's Hi Res buildings. And Tom's Battle of the Bulge mod .
  23. From my novice, gamey perspective: When I first got CMBO, it seemed natural for me to lead with my armor. "Go in and blow stuff up!" and then clean up with my soft, pulpy soldiers. Usually my tanks would lead and get destroyed by anti-armor weapons of some sort. Then I'd send in my infantry and they'd get squashed by whatever enemy tanks that were hiding in the background. I've had much better luck reversing the process - sending the troops in first, clearing out all the anti-tank crap, and then sending in the tanks to duke it out with whatever is left. The difficult part has been getting my slow-moving power infantry weapons in to help my tanks out. More often than not they lumber in around turn 29/30 and may as well have brooms, not bazookas. What is "game" and what is "real life?" I dunno; the closest I've ever come to combat is the paintball I played last month.
