  1. Contact has now devolved into a full scale donnybrook.  @FlammenwerferX's men grit their teeth and lay into the oncoming German's.  One of my scout teams almost walked on top of a team of ambushing Soviets which ended quickly in the death of my scouts.  I think his men were waiting for me with their entrenching tools.

Ironically, some of the heaviest fighting in the last couple minutes has centered around a church and cemetery. As bullets start cracking through the air my troops scamper for the stone wall.

My big cats support my initial push and my soldiers are thankful for their help.

It's just unreal how that guy remains so calm as the mortar rounds come down around them.  I just don't think I could sit there and not run.  Which, of course, would be the absolute wrong thing to do.

  3. It was Jagdpanthers vs IS-2s and T-34/85s.  The map was huge, time was short and the Germans were in a long line of layered, small, defensive groupings with panzerfausts and schrecks just waiting in ambush.  And IS-2s are SLOW.

Because of time I really had no option other than to start probing knowing losses were going to happen.  I knew I was going to lose tanks and I did.  I mean, Jagdpanthers at 1500-2500m ranges, so yeah.  I killed 7 of the beasts and was pretty happy about that. Most of my losses were T-34s but I did lose a handful of IS-2s as well. I think he only had 2 TDs left and I still had 10-15 tanks left at the end and plenty of infantry power and didn't feel I was any less mobile.  In fact, after it was over, I realized I could have pushed harder and quicker.  This battle did feel like the inevitable Soviet steam roller at the end of the war.  I had losses but in no way felt diminished as I still had a ton of combat power left.

I'll let @FlammenwerferX throw in their two cents on how it appeared from that side.

This battle was a lot of fun!

  4. The terror and uncertainty of battle leads to me losing two of my T-34/85s when they and one of @FlammenwerferX's Jagdpanthers meet face to face.  I was trying to be clever and sneak up a hill thinking I would have his TD in the flank but as my tanks move up the slope the Jagdpanther crests the ridge coming directly at me.  This was the result.

I believe the German soldiers seen in the prior pics are now dead.  Tankodesantniki on the move!!

  5. Me and @FlammenwerferX suffer some intense and terrifying minutes in the woods.

A close encounter of the frightening kind...  Luckily support is right behind!  Out of the woods and right into the waiting jaws of the Jagdpanther.  Today we are thankful our enemy has turretless TDs instead of tanks.  And because of it my scout reverses safely out of danger.

The monstrous German TD gets first shots but misses as both he and I are moving!

    302.png

The fates align, and so do my gunsights.

    305.png

At this range, with 122mm, the results are as expected.

    Scratch on another kill.

More medals will be requested for these heroes of the Soviet Union, if they can survive the next 30 minutes...

  6. I told you all that our battle is raging.  @FlammenwerferX's welcoming party.

    My response...

    134.png

Folks, we got us a long range tank duel going on here.  The smell of burning armor and gunpowder wafts across the landscape.

    131.png

Yet, the German's have both bark and bite as well.

In you go boys.  Give the invader what's coming to him.

More men who may be experiencing their last minutes on pixel-earth yet bravely face their fate.  Fight hard my soldiers!

LOL now if one or both of those tanks misses high...

Maybe I was talking about the tanks, haha!

I was thinking the same and was trying to avoid having them lineup like this.  Glad both used MGs to solve the problem instead of main guns.  The turn before I killed one of my own T-70s with friendly fire from an IS-2, shooting these very troops in this foxhole.  The round hit a couple of meters from the T-70 and did him in.  C'est la guerre.

    122mm vs T-70.

Saw a movie a while ago that Tom Hanks did the same in .45 ACP.

Hehe, and .45 against a Tiger is about as effective as 9mm against an IS-2!

It actually happens quite a bit in CM.  In my Breakthrough to Kovel campaign I also posted a picture of a Soviet officer shooting a tank with a pistol.  I guess it the whole "tools we have" thing... 😁

That's excellent!  I have to give you props again as I have just finished playing Deep Raid by PBEM and have just started Tip of the Spear by PBEM as well.  I'm also still working through 5 days!  Your maps, attention to detail and well crafted scenarios are both stunning to look at and amazing to play through.

Thanks George!  Your work is MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!

  10. My fight with @FlammenwerferX is heating up as men and armor move through the countryside.

My recon units give the German enemy a face full of canister.

    70.png

Flammenwerfer's men happen to take out one of my T-34s by killing the unbuttoned commander and then spooking the rattled crew out with grenades.  Still, having thought I had put down all the ambushers a burst of SMG fire takes down multiple men of mine at once.

    82.png

However, despite the rain and cold my men are determined to make our introductions to the invader.

absolutely amazing pics, PhantomCapt!  Thanks much for making the effort to share.

I have a new PC coming in a few days and can't wait to dial up all the graphics to 'best', hopefully will look like your stuff.

Thanks Dan!  In the past when an old PC died, first thing is to make sure that CM will run flawlessly and at the highest settings.  Priorities man!
