1. Just wanted to let anyone who uses the now defunct 3dfx company's cards that they have released new drivers for the cards with a lot of new features. I used to have a 3dfx voodoo5 and was bummed when they went out of business a week after I bought the card! Anyways here is the link to the article which, in turn, has links to the drivers: Mad Onion I hope this helps those of you still using the voodoo line...
2. Wow. There's some pretty incredible news on the Voodoo front. Apparently the old 3dfx team just released new drivers today! I really didn't believe it at first but I guess it's true. Here's the link to the article, which in turn has links to the drivers: MadOnion Think I will keep my GeForce3, though! I may pick up a cheap voodoo5 card now though to put in the puter my girlfriend uses...
3.
quote:
(currently claimed by something called Shadowbane)

Heh...I've been waiting for that 'something' called Shadowbane for almost two years now and it still doesn't look like it will be out by the end of the year. It is probably one of the most intriguing MMORPG's I have ever seen...I can't wait to play it. I am in a guild of over 200 players who are waiting as well! Indeed, waiting is the hardest part, heheh...
4. You know what's funny? My cat likes to either jump up on the back of my chair or hop onto the bookshelf behind me to watch me when I'm playing Combat Mission. He hasn't done this with any other games so far, and I've only been playing CM for a couple weeks so I don't know if it's just a new habit. I thought it was pretty funny, though. At least my cat has good taste in video games, lol!
5. Yeah, I knew about the control click tool, but it would still be useful to be able to jump to a point. Oh well...hopefully we can see this implemented in CM2!
6. I may just be missing it, but I read through the manual again and did a search on these forums, but I was wondering is there any way to create reference points on a map in CM? So you can just 'jump' to that area of the map? Any help would be appreciated! I am particular to long, large battles and it would help immensely in navigating the battlefield! And if there isn't a way to do this...they should make it happen in CM2!
7. Yah, that does make a lot of sense. I hope we see this in CM2.
8. Bah...used to have Voodoo 5500 agp. . . DO NOT GET THIS CARD. Maybe I'm just bitter about picking it up for $350 the week before 3dfx goes out of business and prices dropped by 50%, I dunno. I do know, however, that the drivers available for this card are severely out of date. There are a couple websites of people who have tried and continue to make up to date versions of the drivers, but I experienced nothing but problems with them. Two weeks ago I picked up a geforce3 and I have to say it flat out rocks. I even went through a lot of older games I had and the difference was remarkable. Must be something with the T&L on the card- or the fact that its 64mb. Dunno- I'm not a 'puter guru. Anyways- I think you will see a nice dip in prices for cards with the geforce3 chip. With the holidays coming and the recent competition with Kyro, one would at least expect it. Sure you can get a card cheaper than a Geforce, but when it comes to something as important as a video card, I try not to be too frugal...
9. Heh...I'm one of those refugees. I really like WW2OL and the gameplay. I was one of the few that could actually get it to run on my system(athlon 1.33ghz geforce3) even though it was only at 40fps. However, the game lacks the one major thing that keeps it from being Tank Quake, or Quank as we call it. The limited resource system and the rank system have yet to be put in place. And until it does, taking tank from point A to point B to blow up enemy tank, then wash, rinse, repeat- can get very boring and mundane. I can credit the game with one great thing, though. It introduced me to Combat Mission through some posts on their forums! Now I had to return the favor and recently made a post on their boards called, "Combat Mission, or why I haven't played WW2OL for a week!" Go check it out and spread the gospel that is Combat Mission!
10. As a new player to the game, I'm currently trying to get all my mods straightened out. It would be awesome to have this sort of tool to help me out! =) It is coming soon, I hope?
11. Heh, yah, my heart did skip a beat when I didn't see the CD right away! Something BTS did though, that you just won;t see with the 'big' software companies: I had DL'd the patches thinking I would have to install them. Lo and behold, the game on the CD was already v1.12! Now that's what I call cust service, baby!
12. Yeah, I just ordered it last Friday and it came on Monday. I live in California as well. Maybe you should email BTS and see what's up?
13. Well, those of you who read my Noob Alert post last week know I finally ordered CM:OO on Friday. Well to my surprise it arrived yesterday in the mail! So very exciting to unwrap and install after playing that damn demo for almost two weeks, heh heh. To top it all of, it was my day off yesterday! I spent many an hour playing different scenarios and familiarizing myself with the game best I could. Later in the evening I decided to DL some of the better spoken of mods (thanks to all those who replied to my earlier post with mod advice!). I DL the mod manager program as well. Well I have a couple more questions prehaps some of you vets could help me with. There are so many mods out there, it's hard to tell which will overwrite the other. Is the only way to tell which will affect a particular file is to unzip the file and look at the individual files? Using the Mod Manager, I sort of like that I can leave all the mods in the zipped format and install them on the game temporarily. Are there certain mods that the overall consensus is they deserve a permanent place in the gamefiles? Also, I was wondering if you needed to switch out different types of mods of the same unit? For example, in order to utilize winter unit mods, do those mods need to be loaded or when you choose a battle in snow do these become the default unit mods? I DL'd a bunch of mods so now I'm not sure which would overwrite the others. Is the only way to check which mods are which is by using them individually and looking in game or is there a easier way to do this? It seems to me that some of the mods I install using modmanager don't show up in game. Is that because they get overwritten? Well, any help would be appreciated! Give me a couple more weeks of practice against the computer and then start looking for my PBEM challenges in the forums! Everyone needs to battle easy prey from time to time, right? =) p.s. If none of this makes sense blame CM! I was up until midnight playing last night!
14. I believe it would. Don't ask me about the physics involved, and I certainly have never driven a tank before. It makes sense, however, that a track that is immobilized would cause the other track to rotate the tank around the now defunct track. The track that wasn't operational would act like a centerpoint for the tank to rotate around. Now it wouldn't be a perfect rotation mind you, and the terrain could certainly have a lot to do with the functionablity involved, but I think it could at least change angles slightly at the very least... But like I said, I'm not a physics instructor or tank driver, so...
15. LOL! What is it about tetris that sucks the women in? My girlfriend found my old and much un-used gameboy that had the Tetris game cartridge still in it. She got some new batteries and has spent the last two weeks playing it during the evenings, leaving me free to play on my computer guilt-free! Maybe everyone needs to go buy a gameboy for their significant other to get them off our backs!
16. Well for god's sake let us know what happened, man! My fingernails are getting too short to wait much longer! =P
17. Great! Thanks for all the worthwhile info. I spent the better part of my morning at work reading through the various faqs and webpages. Much appreciated, folks! Keep 'em coming I still have 4 more hours of worktime to get through.
18. Heya there. I just ordered CM after hearing all sorts of good things about it on the WW2OL boards. Have to take some refuge from that game until they get their stuff straigtened out. So I know about all the mods on CMHQ and I read the great article on which to install and what order. Now is there anything I should know about the mods that isn't widely known? Are there things I should know that aren't in the game manual? And what the heck is the PENG challenge? These things and more I want to know. So anyone who can, lay down some wisdom on my brain so I can make my CM playing experience the best it can be! Grr...dunno if I can wait until next week to get the game in the mail! I might have to drive to their offices to pick it up!
