The bullet used by the American .30 cal and the Vickers is the same diameter, .3 inches, however they could be of different length. The correct designation of the round fired by the American gun is .30-'06, or .30 calibre, 1906 because it was created for use the M1906 Springfield rifle in 1906. The Vickers uses the .303 round, which has a smaller casing and therefore has a lower MV. The difference is insignificant when the target is human sized though. It only matters when hunting elk or moose.

First of all, the American rifle is known as the 1903 Springfield for a good reason. It was adopted for service in 1906, not 1906. There is no 1906 rifle in the US inventory. The casing size between the US and UK rounds isn't large, and one would have to know what kind of powder and bullet was being used in order to determine which rould was more powerful.
2. I have finished the game with Mare Ichthys, and Cooper is good for two turns per week. I haven't heard from Hellfish, Redwolf, or Rother's replacement since mid December. Chop chop guys.
3. I'm currently playing in the Nordic Wanabee tournament but I can fill in for either of the other tournaments. Count me in.
4. There are no fire lanes. People who say they created "interlocking fields of fire" in CM are talking out thier ass.. Hold your nose, here I go again. While you can't assign an auto weapons field of fire, they can interlock on a given target.
5. All fully tracked vehicles could pivot steer. Since steering came from applying braking force to whichever side you want to turn to, all tracked vehicles could turn in this manner. The big thing is if the transmission isn't set up to allow one track in neutral it puts a great deal of stress on the stationary track. Most vehicles would steer in a small circle in order to keep the wear on the transmission to a minimum. Brakes are alot easier to replace in the field than tracks or gearboxes.
6. Sounds like fun. I'm game if you need more players. rspilot@nyc.rr.com
7. Treeburst, I was at turn 5 with Rother and haven't heard from him in at least two weeks.
8. This has been an instering and informational thread that has progressed without the usual flame throwing that normaly accompanies this type of discussion. I do have the following comments: Waffen SS = Malmedy (Any questions?) On the subject of flags, to the victor goes the spoils. The Soviets won WWII so their flag wasn't on the chopping block, the Nazi's lost. The ban on symbols was designed to combat the possoble rise of a 'new' Nazi movement. The Germans also demolished Spandau prison after the lase prissoner was released in order to keep it from becomming a shrine to neo-nazis. While it is cencorship, there are many, many, things that you aren't allowed to say or show in the US.
9. Come to think of it, I haven't heard from old Rother in a week or so. It is the holidays and he could have had a bad case of RL.
10. While the German optics were (and are) much better than the American optics, the real difference in the gunnery was training. The Germans trained for longer ranges because they had guns that could kill at longer ranges. Remember that for the last three years of the war the Germans fought a largly defensive war, whick lent itself to stationary long range gunnery from camoflaged positions.

12. To all group 1 players, I'm back from out of town and will have all turns sent out by tonight.
13. I'm back from out of towna nd will resume the tournament today. I'll get the turns played and out by this evening.
14. To all group #1 players, I'm going to be away from the computer from this Sunday until the following Friday.
15. To all my section 1 opponents. If I don't get back to you in a couple of days after you send me a turn, please let me know. I'm usually good about playing my turns ASAP, but five games at once is a little more than I'm used to. GST Gold
16. To all the group 1 players, I'm in NYC on EST. I am better for PBEM, later in the week for TCP if possible.
17. I have seen starlight and IR goggles (starlight is a black and white view and IR is a green) Actually it was the other way around. Starlight is a light amplifying technology, it does not work in conditions of total darkness. Passive IR measures available heat and works in any amount of light, including broad daylight. Tank gunners in the gulf war used their IR sights during the day because it was easier to find targets. The German WWII IR used an IR 'spotlight' that painted the area. The reflection of that light was visible to the operator using special glasses.
18. I couldn't download the scenario, could you send me a copy? Thanks rspilot@nyc.rr.com Greg
