    Not in my nature ;)

In the first couple of weeks of Operation Barbarossa the Germans advanced huge distances. On an average day they would advance until they hit resistance - deal with it and then carry on with the mad rush forward till the next battle.

As you'll notice from the modifiers in Note 1 - Date: "June -3; July -2; Oct -1; Nov -1; Dec -2"

June had the most battles, followed by July and Dec.

Keep a look out for the Battle of Kiev coming to your PC in the near future ;)

To be announced on this board in the coming week.

    HI S

Note 12 - Generating the Real Battle

You won't be able to buy the HQ/Squad/Team etc. in your Inf. Company at different Experience Settings, so you have to average the Experience for the Company.

Add up the experience of each Co unit: HQ/Squad/Team and divide by number of units. The player determines the Experience level for the company using Appendix A (which follows the Notes section).

This parameter doesn't show any useful info as it is.

I'm with you, but those parameters are spesific to Game Page 2 - I.e.: just as they should be entered into the QB screen. If I add say >30% as another option, I'll have a ton of mail from newbies saying that they don't get that option on their QB screens ;) When you roll up unrestricted rarity - you'll remember it, believe me - it's a rare ocassion much looked forward to tongue.gif

Use the currently unused parameter 57 to record the quality of any attached units you are going to buy in the next battle, i.e. it is only filled out if you get a positive point value in parameter 56.

? 57 is Emergency Reorganization - nothing to do with 56 Attached Units? All the Battle Group units', including Attached Units, quality is recorded on the Battle Group sheet.

See Note 15 - Attached Units

Enter the points on the next battle's Parameter Sheet and when you buy your forces for your next battle, select a unit, sticking to the < 40% rarity rule. Remember to enter the unit on the new Battle Group Sheet - in the lines marked with a 'Note 8'.

To record it on the Parameter sheet as well would be double work IMHO

Hmmm - I'm nastier than that - I like the idea of the player losing battle after battle until reality forces him to realize that HE'S JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH!! ... The larger his ego - the longer this will take :D

    43

Just updated the Player Guide to read:

"You might not be able to spend all the points you rolled up. In that case only enter the actual points you spent onto the Battle Group sheet."

But not in 36 though - In the box marked Attached Units (opposite 28) on the Parameters sheet.

After 2 battles I get 40 pts more? What do I insert in Parameter 36?...100 or 83?
Depends on what you buy - if you spend 27 on the new unit, you'll enter 70 (43 + 27)...

There is an Emergency Reorganization and I lose my 43pt unit?...Do I subtract 43 pts from the Attached Unit Value gained until now?

    Yes - you're down to 27.

    2) Infantry Company Experience

    - after an Emergency Reorganization are depleted units to be counted for determining the Infantry Company Experience?....I think they aren’t as they do not participate to the battle.

    Quite right!

    3) Player Experience

    - Is Player Experience set for the overall campaign or can it be set from battle to battle?

    Nope

    Note 8 - Player Exp.:

"If you win more than 6 battles in a row – increase your Player Experience by one notch. But, beware of the Winter!!"

Keep the questions comming - it makes the rules better/clearer for everybody smile.gif

A conscript Hah!! - Do you think the Battallion Co is going to waste another good kapitan on a company like yours that can't protect their commanders... So you get Himmler's drunken cousin - fresh from college where he cheated his way through the few courses he bothered to attend. Good Luck!!

BTW - had a look at your earlier notes:

No Rules for replacements between the months of Jan - May. (I've been using June - August ones for the hell of it).

Careless - fixed it - mailing it to you in a couple of minutes...

Those Date Modifiers suck. Haven't used em.

    (Sorry)

New one's have been posted a couple of times - been out for 3? weeks. Hope you're not talking about them? Have a look: Date & Time combo.

Pure Armour Battles are impossible for what armour we get in 42. AI will always buy T34's and KV's. Thats just me. Plus it's unrealistic in my opinion.

Had a look - changed the Pure Armor from die 10 to die 9 where they will only have a 1 : 10 chance.. Gives a bit a of variation and did happen once in a blue moon.

Trucks and Kubelwagons. Whats the point it's impossible for them to increase there experience except by replacements, and they can only go down in experience when they are forced to bail out. I say ditch em, just more units to worry about. :(

I hear you... Don't be in a hurry - there's still 7? unit upgrades to go - got too start at a low base...

BCR's hidden goal: to teach players how to use as many units as possible - including the lowly Kubelwagen.

In regards to favour, going through and seeing if an enemy mortar is abandoned or KO'ed is very annoying! Same with tanks etc. Make it easier and it will attract more people

This terrain (and the following) has been covered numerous times - check the previous threads - some want more - some want less - this is the middle road... Best to adjust to your own liking - Won't have too great an influence one way or the other.

Give some favour for killing inf. I say 1 Favour pt for every 50 enemy casulties. I just held off an enemy human wave with two platoons! I should get some credit from my superiors!

Pah! - killing 50 - all in a days work... stupid AI with their stupid human waves... Nah!

Real reason - and be carefull with changing this: gaining experience too easily will throw out BCR's ballance and make the campaign too easy and BORING in a record time... It's supposed to get tougher - not easier. This one's quite important IMHO.

Lots of the fields are obvously blank. I'll see what I cn dig up in my history books. (Again)Not too sure what you mean here - found 2 parameters without modifiers: Axis Nationality and Mech further roll? Nationality: the other 3 Axis partners had a very minor roll on average over the whole Southern front - most of the time they should be far less than 1:10, but...

SS Mech - if you've got some data there, as to when their availability increased/percentages etc it would help. I couldn't find any figures for the whole S front - just for spesific corp etc.

Wouldn't have a clue how you propose to run those big battles. Stalingrad etc. Would like to know smile.gif :D

... Man lucky I have no kids!

Good thing - you're bound to leave them behind in the fog as well

Thanx for the feedback HB - keep em comming - and some more AAR's as well (they're fun smile.gif - curious to hear how it's going with the 2 platoons of armor (if you haven't changed them to K Tigers by now ;)

LOL - Quite right Joker - those date/time rules sucked :D

Been changed a couple of weeks ago - will be out with the latest update in a week or 2.

    Here goes:

    Note 1 - Date

For your first Battle start on Day 1; Week 4; June (22 June 1941) and ignore the rest of Date (1). Tick the appropriate boxes opposite (7) on the Parameters Sheet. You will use this Sheet later to generate the QB's.

If this battle is not an Axis Immediate Attack/Assault or an Allied Counter Attack/Assault, you can trade in 30 points of Favor to alter the die by a maximum of 1. See Note 2 - Favor.

Please note that modifying the Date with Favor must be in a positive direction. ;)

If this battle is an Allied Counter Attack/Assault or an Axis Immediate Attack/Assault, then the die roll is ignored and the next battle will take place in the Next Time Period.

The definition of 'Next Time Period' is at the top of Note 3 - Time.

    Note 3 - Time

Definition: Next Time Period. Time follows a predictable sequence. First Dawn, then in order; Mid Day, Dusk and Night. Dawn follows Night (don't forget to advance the date by one day in this case).

Players select the FIRST appropriate option from the list below and follow the instructions accompanying that option.

Option 1. If the previous battle resulted in an ALLIED Counter Attack/Assault, follow the instructions in Block A.

Option 2. If the previous battle resulted in an AXIS Immediate Attack/Assault, follow the instructions in Block B.

Option 3. If the current Battle Type (2) is an AXIS Probe/Attack/Assault, the player may trade in 20 points of Favor to alter the die result by a maximum of one.

Option 4. If you got to here, you have no options. Roll the die and hope for the best. smile.gif

BLOCK A - There are neither modifiers nor a die roll. Select the next time period from the one in the last battle.

BLOCK B - If you wish to delay the Axis Immediate Attack/Assault by two time periods, it will cost you 30 Favor points. If you do not wish to delay the Axis Immediate Attack/Assault time, go to Block A

    Hope this helps tongue.gif

  11. Hi Robert,

“have offered it to Biltong Sunday. I haven't heard from him since...

Trying to put the pressure on are you? Bring it on :D

A wife, 4 kids between 4 and 11, A business + staff and another one starting up; 100 maps exactly for the Kiev Map Pack alone + another 60 or so to process; one player approaching midway 42 that needs rule changes LOL Bring it on – my shoulders are wide.

I imagine you did not get my e-mail of the 1st: let me repeat:

“unfortunately it is impossible time wise to keep 2 docs up to date - when you sent me the reformatted one, I've already made changes to

the original - which means going through both and comparing - Don't have the time for that.”

Priorities… you know… Theike has been waiting patiently since the 26th with his 30? Maps – after him there’s 6 or 7 other guys… Patience my man… you’re going to need lots of it – like me ;)

With no initial casualties this gives a 2000 point battle. I thus get to buy units for 2000 points. But my battle group costs 653, and I can only use 225+60+150+550 = 985 points on the task force. What do I use the remaining 362 points for? Since no one has asked this before,

They have – discussed at great length a number of times – do a search or scan through the previous BCR threads – might be a good idea in any case…

I assume that either my math is wrong or (more likely) people simply use the points as they see fit to do.

If the latter is the case, I suggest that the rules be tightened.

I don't think so... Player Guide: Task Force - where else...

“. Later you will buy as many of these Task Force Offerings as you are allowed when you generate the Real Battle.”

Maybe time for some background info: I used my 2 sons for testing. The 8 yr old is quite bright and picked the rules up fast. My 11yr old is into sport and that is it!! Won’t say he’s stupid, but definitely not an academic type… When he didn’t understand something I clarified the Rules or the Player Guide. Once he rolled up a number of battles on his own, that was it – time to move on to maps, other years and specific battle packs. BCR isn't just rules... it's a bit more than that.

As it is there’s quite a lot of rules and if I had to spell out everything, we would sit with a rule book 60+ pages long – no-one will touch it – So – a trade off: as much variety/historical accuracy/complexity/learning/fun etc etc in as short a form as possible.

I personally think we lose 3 times more potential players because of the length of the rules compared to those that we lose because it’s too difficult to understand.

Come-on: If Tayan (my 11 yr old) can get it – 98% or more of the CMBB crowd will get it as well.

You're right that this is the strict interpretation of note 12. It seems a bit unfair to loose so many points. Your opponent can - and will - buy the full complement

    Come on! You’re not playing a human – you’re playing a stupid computer! :D

I'd like to get an official confirmation if this is indeed the correct interpretation.

Yes it is the correct interpretation. This is official

When you are allowed to use favor to alter a die roll … do you have to do it before rolling the die, or can you do it after? I don't think the rules specify this anywhere.

Not true... Note 2 Favor - where else ;)

“You decide whether to expend Favor to change the result immediately after rolling the die, and before you move on to the next parameter. “

Right – back to the maps

  12. Biltong’s Campaign Rules

    41 South v2.2 and 42 South v1.1

    Player Guide v2.2

All of the above - Get it here:

    SuperSulo's Site

    or here

If this is the first time you hear about BCR…

BCR is a set of Campaign rules that enable you to play a series of battles from Barbarossa to Berlin.

BCR 41 & 42 South is the set of Rules covering the months June 41 to December 42 in the Army Group “South” Theatre of Operations.

Operation Barbarossa erupts on 22 June 1941 and you and your Battle Group storm through the Soviet ranks through the long months of summer in the steppe and the mud and rain of October. You take your men all the way to Rostov, Khar’kov and the Crimea before the incredible cold of November halt you in your tracks. Then the Soviet counter attacks start.

You are the commanding officer of a company of German Mechanized Infantry and some armor that you take through the whole CMBB time frame. As you lead your company and armor into Russia most of the parameters of the battles are dictated by historically accurate data, e.g. on the 4th week of October 41 it suddenly turns bitterly cold and the German advance freezes to a halt.

You, your men and armor gain or loose experience throughout the Campaign. You start off with Regular troops, but after a year it becomes obvious that the quality of your replacements are getting worse... How your men grow in experience will depend on how they fare in each battle… how many men did they lose; did they get rattled; did they take out a MG pillbox or maybe even a tank?

You yourself, as the CO, learn and slowly gain or loose Favor with your own commanding officer. If you screw up, you lose favor... Favor that you could have used to avoid launching an Immediate Assault straight after your last battle without even getting reinforcements.

You also get a Task Force to support your Battle Group: Infantry, Support, Vehicles, Armor, Arty or Air, depending on factors such as who assaults or attack who, weather etc.

With designed scenarios you quite often have ‘balanced’ forces, but with BCR you’ll get the real thing: Sometimes you know who your opponent is; sometimes you are facing unknown odds. Sometimes you have an easy go of it - hammering low on ammo and decimated green Partisans, but later that night you might face a counter-attack from 3 companies of Guards Mech, before you had chance to get reinforcements... You have to think on your feet and learn to retreat when necessary... no more heroic defenses or assaults till the last man!!

Your men's survival is of the utmost importance... even to the extent that you'll rather loose a battle than loose too many men! The objectives still matter – you still want to win, but not at the cost and risk of decimating your men. Here realism rules for the first time.

As a learning tool this is unsurpassed.... You learn to think and act like a real commander... If you think you’ve got your tactics down pat, :D – Think again… You will get into situations that you’ve never encountered before… and never will with normal scenarios and QB’s.

BCR is just for yourself… the battle is between yourself and an enemy who grows stronger every year… You will have to become a better commander for you and your men to survive till the end.

If you have any questions - post in this thread and I or one of the old hands will answer you within a day or 2.

    Enjoy!!

Had a bad exp however. Panzer IIIJ's don't take on T34 all that well. I hate pure armour engagements. :( All me Panzer crews from 41 are strewn about in some bushes in the Soviet Union now. :( I bled with those men. <Sob> To brighter news, now my company is about to face some Soviet force in the open. Oh and biltong the parameters sheet in the PDF set is the 41 one. ie, no Jan - May in the month line.

    Hi HB,

I think you're way ahead of the pack - Pathfinder!! smile.gif You'll strike the errors first - pls post here and let me know if you find any more.

The next update for 42 will be quite soon - week or 2. Only a few changes - all posted in this thread a page or 2 back. Most important one is the Date/Time cleanup for Axis Immediate Attacks/Assaults.

Once you get to May let me know as well - Your armor might get an upgrade in June or July or thereabouts - haven't checked rarity yet.

What happened with the Pure Armor battle(s)? - difficult by the sounds of it. Defence should be reasonably easy?

    Question for Biltong??

What is the reason for upsizing all in 1942? Is it because the 1942 battles involved more troops? Is more troops for the axis an offset to things like higher casualty rates, lower ammo%?

    Hi Kenm,

A campaign is a story and every story has a beginning, middle and end. The most important part (arguably) being the end. A story/movie/opera/campaign must end with a bang!

I hope to end with a bang in Berlin, but in the meanwhile the plot must evolve and become more interesting ;) Each year your Battle Group will improve – mostly due to normal upgrades of armor that actually happened in that year, so that when we get to 45 we’ll have a formidable, but realistic force to deal with those hordes of Soviets storming our beloved capital city.

Once again, like with the Task Force and Attached Units, you will receive (and also lose) a variety of units – this time being tank hunters & vehicles – so that you get to know those units very well over a period of 20+ battles.

At the end of this 5 year campaign you should be a veteran or better with most of the common units.

That is one of BCR's goals :D
