O TNT, O TNT, how lovely is thy molteness
Stalin's Organ replied to _Axe_'s topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Guys, guys, guuys - this is NT the MG thread of Cheery waffle - OK - I mean the title lackes the appropriate words, and it starts with poetry for heaven's sake - it's just a bit of detritus that has exploded out - shrapnel if you will. Much like spillage from the pool, only more immediately deadly and not so smelly. -

AP mines and the noobian...
Stalin's Organ replied to PeekingDuck's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Well that was the idea. I placed the mines in order to prevent him from using the only cover on the map. In other words, I thought the mines would deny him the use of the houses as cover, thus making his men easy targets for my mortars, MGs and Rifle peeps. -
Sounds like a load of bollocsks to me - the 3" mortar hasn't been used in the Brit army since the mid 60's and there's no way they'd be shipping 30-40 yr old ammo to a combat unit! The current 81mm mortar is designated as an 81mm mortar (I forget the number) so it's not going to be ammo for that that's been mis-designated.

Tanks using machine guns on tanks
Stalin's Organ replied to Blah Blah Blah's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
In CM buttoned vehicles take longer to aquire targets - in "real life" you might take a pot shot to try to KO the commander and he's much less likely to spot a MG firing than a main gun, plus he's going to spend seconds getting down and into his fighting positoin - the gunner will be "buttoned" anyway probably if htey're expecting action. -

WW2 tanks did not use ranging machineguns. -
SMLE had a 10 round mag, and earlier versions (WW1) had a restraint to allow you to keep them all while loading and firing single shot. I've never seen anyone have trouble with a British bolt action (SMLE, Mk 4) - I've always found it smooth, fast and easy - for a manual bolt. The Moison-Nagant on the other hand I found awkward because the bolt handle is not bent and doesn't come smoothly to hand when searching for it (tried on a 1944 model carbine with a fixed bayonet that shot a 3-4 foot flame out the front when fired because of the short barrel!)
