  1. Nope. You dont need LOS to target a TRP. I know this because the mortors that wont fire are litterally surrounded by mortors that are fireing with no problem at all. The reason I chose to move these mortors so far back is because the terrain is so heavilly wooded and the weather so bad that they couldnt get LOS on any targets outside minimum range. So I figured that the only use I was gonna get out of them anyway was to target the TRP without LOS. Its working just fine except for those 3 units that just wont.
  2. Agreed. But does that also mean you cannot move between battles of an operation? I checked the manual and it does not address this question. BTW max range for 60 mortor is 1816m.
  3. I thought of that excepts that three of the mortors are behind the ones that arent fireing so the range is even further for them but only by about 10 meters. the're all very closely packed so i would think if some would be out of range then they all would be.
  4. Ok here's the situation. I am playing an operation. I have 9 60mm mortors all parked well away from the front lines(prolly 1000 meters or more). In the previose battle I had them split into 2 parks of 3 mortors each. During the battle one park would target the TRP with no problem, but the other park would not target the TRP for the entire battle. Hmmm...I thought maybe there is "something" concerning there location or their HQ that is preventing them from fireing. So during setup for the next battle I moved the mortors in question to the same location as the others who were having no trouble firing. I also recieved 3 more as reinforcments to bring the total of 9 and placed them in the same location. all 9 are in the same place under command of the same HQ. Guess what. The 3 mortors that were in this location to begin with can still fire. The 3 new mortors I just received are firing. But the 3 mortors that could not fire last battle still wont target the TRP. What gives? The only difference I can see is that these mortors are of HIGHER quality then the others and they were moved during setup (not during the actual battle.) That is to say they had been moved prier to the previous battle and prior to the current battle but only during setup. From what I think I know, only moving during the actuall battle would stop them from targeting TRP's. in summation... they are in the same location as the others. Under command of same HQ. Of high quality(2 Vets and 1 Crack). Have only been moved during setup. Yet they wont target the TRP. I just dont get it. Any thoughts? Funnel
  5. I had a stuart behind the german lines and killed a Tiger from the rear. A few turns later, as he was making his way back towards friendlys he caught a King Tiger with a side shot. First 3 shots bounced but the fourth knocked it out. 2 tigers with a stuart. After the battle I pinned Silver Stars on the crew and sent them home.
  6. LOL (SPLANG!) "Yea got him" (high fives) "Uh oh. Hey Joe, there coming over here, and they look pissed" "Quick, gimme the .45" "Huh? I thought you had the..." (WHAM! BONK! WHAP!) Ya just gotta love this game.
  7. "City by the Lake" The map is Great looking and the fighting was intense. I gave out alot of medals in that fight.
  8. I have heard it said that there was only one world war. Began in 1914 with the assasination of the Arch Duke and ended in 1991 with the fall of the Soviet Union.
  9. Wilko Thank you very much. I have been wanting to see this movie again but my copy has long since disappered. (or the wife has recorded her damned soap operas over it) Looks like I'll be making a trip to the video store tonight. Maybe I should make the wife go get it. Wait, bad idea. She'd prolly come back with "You've Got Mail" or something like that. hehe Anyway thanks again. Funnel ------------------ "We will go forward, but you must go back." 10. I just saw something that might answer a question I have. When I was away in the Air Force several years ago my grandmother used to put a tape in the VCR before she went to bed and record movies all night and then mail me the tapes. One of the tapes had an excellent Vietnam war movie on it. But she had missed recording the opening credits so I never knew the name of it. Never saw it at the video store and since I didnt know the name of it I didnt know what to look for. It was about a leutenant and a camera man going into the bush with a recon team. It was shot from the perspective of the guy with the camara who was refered to by the team members as "Mopic" In an earlier post someone has refered to a movie called "84 Charlie Mopic" Is this the same movie? Is my years long quest for a title finally at an end? <crosses fingers> Thanks for any replies. Funnel ------------------ "We will go forward, but you must go back." 13. Thanks for the info guys. I have not been having too much trouble advancing in my battles and thought that maybe i was using more tanks then was realistic. But from what you guys say it seems that 12 is not too far out there. But since im playing against the AI maybe i should reduce that to 10 just to make it a bit more challanging. Thanks again for the replys Funnel

  15. Hello All After playing many QB's an ops i decided I wanted to play an RPG as an american company commander over the course of the raminainder of the war (D-Day to VE day). So i got out pen and paper and gave all my units names and ratings that i keep from one op to the next. Of course also advancing the ratings of the units who do well and giving eliminated units new names and a green rating. I play one op per month(starting in june 44) Each op is 20 battles (but they never last that long) 30 turns each and 4 battles per day. Over the course of the op's i usually add reinforcements to equal about a battalion worth of infantry for each side. for the germans i add vehicles and such randomly by not looking at the screen while i click on the forces to be added. (wich makes for some interesting force mixes like the time they got some BIG arty. dont know what it was but it made some BIG holes in the ground and wiped out a whole company in one barrage.) OUCH! I give the above information just to see if anyone else does anything like this and to see if they have a better idea for generating the german forces. but my real question is this. I really have no idea how much armour was typically present when an infantry battalion was on the advance. i have been adding 4 tanks for each company and 3 tanks for each german company. Various shermans and TD's for the americans and whatever i happen to click on when im not looking, to the germans. Any suggestions for a more realistic armour force as to number and types? keep in mind that this is foot infantry not mounted except for my recon platoon that i give HT's and a couple of stuarts. if that would even make a difference. Thanx for any replies. Funnel
