  1. Most of time they are posted here in advance. They also are posted on the WarfareHQ site. You will need an IRC program for communication during the game.
  2. Chris, I played exclusively solitare for several years and have always enjoyed the game. As said previously by changing the blue side you get a diffent battle even if the OPFOR acts in about the same manor. You also can add optional units to the OPFOR to increase the difficulty level. With v4 PBEM is very easy. Even on a busy schedule you can have a game cooking. I have a guy I just finished a game with that we have exchanged turns only a couple of times a week on average so there are many options out there. Dennis

    Manual

Welcome to TacOps you will have lots of fun with it. The manual is not provided in a hard copy form. To have it printed would increase cost/shipping charges. One option is to print it yourself and then take it to an Office Depot kind of store and have it bound. I purchased a pack of binders and the hard plastic covers/ "bookends" and just go in and use their binder back by their copy services area. They have one available for customer use.
  4. Snowfox, I am up for a PBEM game if you like. Dennis
  5. Interesting info. I came across a powerpoint/PDF on artillery use in the Iraqi conflict that talked about the "wonders" of HE, It also mentioned that DPICM was not as effective because of a high dud rate. It did say that the dud rate was less when used on hard surfaces, which I assumed to be roads. Another round with great results was SADDARM (sp?). It also mention how effective mortars were in urban areas and at being able to quickly deliver accurate fire. Dennis
  6. Interesting things one finds going over past posts. Anything ever come of this? Dennis

    Fuel

"Don't we all. QUOTE] I just had a conversation the other day about toys and the stuff that is still up in my moms attic. I moved from a kid playing with 1/72 scale soldiers and tanks on a blanket to an adult doing the same thing with a computer! The terrain is more realistic (quilts don't make good jungles) and the Major has taken care of the sound effects! Great fun!

    Mi-26

As a work around just use a multiple of the helo in question. If you are playing a one player game add the unit and delete them as needed. Of course this probably throws of the scoring but hey life isn't perfect.

    tacops demo

That is funny that someone would begrudge your earning a living that way. Whenever computer games come up and I tell folks what I play I always make it a point to point out the various military users. Dennis
  10. You are forgetting that airstrikes represent a broad range of aircract types. Have you ever missed your exit when driving because you did not catch a sign? Imagine looking for the sign from 500-1000ft AGL, or higher, doing 300+ knots while folks are shooting at you.
  11. It is the optics/guidance package which would be damaged by the vibration/jarring movements encountered during transit.
  12. I don't think the guys digging the hole were military. They WWII buffs maybe they were dressed in that era clothing (I think). It looked like some hill in SoCal. Soil like my backyard....hard and rocky! I am a bit fuzzy on the timeframe, I could be off by a couple of hours but it was a long time from my memory. I believe it was an MG pit. They had it layed out and everything done with it that should be (dirt berm, shelf for the weapon) they just did not get it to a spec depth.
  13. Here is my 2 cents worth as a civilian who has never dug a "real" fighting position. Coastal NC (~1 mile from MCAS New River) digging a trench for a drain line in my parents backyard: soft soil but 2ft down it filled with water. Not fun. Southwestern Ohio recently finished digging foundation for patio: Clay hard as a brick soil (calling it soil is a stretch I think it is more like a soft rock) with LOTS of rocks. 10 minutes with a shovel gets you quite frustrated with little to show for the effort. I can't remember the show but it is on the History channel with the guy who yells alot. He had a couple of guys digging a fighting position as a demonstration. I am fuzzy on the details but memory says that it looked like a fighting position 8-10 hours later but it was not as deep as it should have been. Okay maybe it was 20 cents worth but I would have to side with the Major on this one. Dennis
  14. I just guessing but my take is that (you pick a percentage greater than 50) of the force within that area would be killed/disabled. With some effects felt outside the area. My best comparison is with the bombs in v4.0 You have an effect at a 50% radius and a lesser one beyond that. Dennis
  15. Check out Global Security.org's site. They have a TOS-1 listed which looks like the photo's posted. It also lists a 200x400m area of "ensured" destruction from one salvo. Dennis
  16. Harold Coyle is a fiction writer similar to Tom Clancy without the spy stuff. He was an armor officer in the US army before writing. The book the 10,000 was about the US army in Germany fighting their way out after an extremist government takes office and desires the US forces to surrender and leave the country. Fiction yes but it could make some interesting gaming.
  17. To the best of my knowledge they use a recoiless rifle but not the SPG9. And yes I was refering to the folks up north. Another interesting scenerio idea. I have not replaced OPFOR weapons with western one but it could be interesting. Say do a Harold Coyle "The 10,000" scenerio.
  18. I use OPFOR SPG9's to sub for 75mm recoiless weapons for Korean scenerios. I often customize the standard scenerios by changing the weapons of the opfor and blue force.
  19. I alread asked for this as a "experimental" vehicle for use with the US. The OPFOR BTR based mortar vehicle may be used as a substitute. Armor values will not be correct but it will do until wish list item #1125 ( just guessing) is added to the database. Dennis
  20. Of course there are some diehards out there (like me) who are attracted to TacOps because of this high level of detail. If you want to shoot and destroy everything and ignore the realities of "the other stuff" that a battalion would bring along you can do it with TacOps. It also allows you to include the HQ elements and the logistic tail of a unit to see what element that adds to the battlefield. It is also an added element to attempt to recover mobility damaged vehicles and if added in umpire mode recover battlefield casualties.
  21. Is the wish list prioritized? [/QB]
  22. I am pretty sure that this is below the scale of the game, although you could make a compelling argument for it. I often wonder about the wish list and just how long it is and what is on it with the Majors so often reply that is it is on the list and it has a low priority! Dennis Huff
  23. Can't remember the name but I did find some info on it on some defense contracter's website (can't remember that either! ) I think it would be neat to toy around with a force using that and the 120mm automatic mortar LAV type system instead of tradition arty, assume HIMARS is for counter battery work and see how it works.
  24. Alas another comes along and saves the day. I seemed to have placed the book in which I read about it in a box and now I can't remember which box! The Russian name though strikes a familiar cord, I think it is what it is refered to as in Red Lightning, my second favorite game after Tacops of course! Another thing on my wish list is a representation of a 70mm ground rocket system. I had read an article in the Marine Corps Gazette quite some time ago lamenting the current 155mm piece and singing the praises of getting rid of it entirely or at least supplementing it. The authors big gripe was smoke support and the burden it would place on arty units to have the amount of smoke rounds on hand that Inf. commanders would like. The rocket system would obviously not have the range of 155mm howitzers but could get much closer and besides for smoke support they don't have to fire much beyond the FEB. I have seen a picture of a proposed system with 6 19round pods so one unit could lay down a dense smoke screen or a heck of alot of firepower at one time.
